Maintence of my car

OK..

I do the dip stick thing on the oil when the engine is off. I do the dip stick thing on the transmission when it is running. I check windshield washer and brake fluids and make it look like I know what the heck I am doing. I do take it in to change the oil as needed...usually 5,000 since hubby always used Mobil 1 synthetic and usually go to Walmart and they do all the stuff.

What about things like air filter...and water in the radiator...I think I check this but do I need to use antifreeze/coolent....I live in South Carolina and they sort of.....you know smile that smile that says I don't know what I'm talking about. Not easy being a women in a mans domain. HELP.

For openers, if you don't know what the service guys at Wally World are doing, ask them.

Dig out your owner's manual. It will have recommended service intervals for all those things you're concerned about. Do what it says and you'll be fine.

I usually just use Plain old water to bring coolant up to the full line, unless I'm replacing a good amount of fluid then i'll go buy a jug of antifreeze and drain it,,, Fill it here where it rarely freezes, with 50% each, anti freeze / water. Back of the anti freeze jug has a wealth of information, if you have a magnifying glass.

What make / model / year is the car ?

Pecan, my water garden is a minute fraction of the size of yours I can haz energizer gardener battery plz? so this might not work for you. But then again, anybody who can just whip out a stained perfect deck on a Saturday night can probably tackle a siphon system! On average, over any given 7 day period; I pull 10-20% of my pond water out to water/fertilize my veggies. Then I top the pond back up with a shower head on the sprinkler. I'm usually only pulling out less than 5% at a time. If you had some kind of siphon system, and did a 10% (550 gallon) water change - de-cholorinating 550 gallons outside your pond could be interesting. You could reverse the siphon system and siphon from the irrigation ditch through a debris filter into your pond. I would assume at least. Or make some type of ditching/gate system to open your flood water to your pond. ~dianne PS - and your pond is just beautiful. Can't wait to see more pics. Oh, and we have friends in Utah. They get some lovely photos in the late afternoon when they are flood irrigating their yard and the Belgian's are out playing in the water.

John Deere 832 snowblower maintence

I inherited a JD 832 8 horse snowblower from my dad when he psssed away. It works great and it sure beats using a shovel, but last time I used it, it wont throw the snow the distance it use to. Its been a couple of years since I had the belts changed so perhaps the belts are stretched. MY QUESTION IS, HOW DOES ONE TIGHTEN UP THE BELTS? Do I have to take off the bolt so the snowblower folds?

***SIGH*** I hear you! Where I "used" to live in PA,we could go away for a week and let the door unlocked.Here...we had to put up locked gates because the freaks back the alley have teenagers that think it's ok to walk in my carport and take...my lawnmower and our tools when they need money. We learned the hard way that this isn't our small hometown....now we lock everything up.Wonder what the kids back the alley are doing for money these days? Brats! Then they come past and say"good Evening" real sweet! Grrrrr! The neighbor saw them taking my stuff ,I should have called the cops but he wasn't SURE which kid it was. There are about 5 of them back there.More on any given day. Cops are always back there.Only bad family on our street! (Of course there's only 5 houses here counting the one on the corner.)

Get the radiator coolant changed if it has been at least three years since the last time it was done. I have seen a radiator that had weak coolant in it. The radiator needed replacement because of corrosion.

Air filter, power steering fluid, and tire pressure.

I was recently told that the max psi shown on the tire is not what I should be going by. Apparently those tires on different vehicles, take different amounts of pressure. I was told the right pressure was on a sticker on the inside edge of the drivers side door.

When you top off the coolant, its best to use an antifreeze-water mix even though you are in a warmer climate. If you add plain water, you will be diluting the mix.
