We had an old cast iron with bad rusting on the overflow drain. instead of replacing it we had Miracle Method refinish it. They repaired the rusted out spot and replaced drains. Our tile was in good space but an ugly yellow so I had them spray the tub surround too. So much easier than retiling, and it looks great. It does stink for a few days but worth it.

It looks like you want a tub that is wider, longer and possibly deeper than your current one. There is a good chance that you will need a larger conventional water heater or an on-demand water heater to fill it properly. If you use a pocket door anywhere, be sure it is a solid core door to reduce sound transfer. If this were my bathroom, I'd remove the closet but leave a partition wall against which the door would open. Then I'd move the toilet far enough toward that wall to put a new tub roughly where the current one is. I'd put any money saved on extensive channeling toward a Toto Neorest toilet.

I have had both cast iron and acrylic. If cast iron was still exceptional, more companies would continue to manufacture tubs in this material but the plumbers don't want their guys injured, and frankly the material doesn't retain heat very well. No one wants to sit in cold bathwater. It's cheaper to mold acrylic and the color extends through the material. It retails heat better. Doesn't keep its shine like porcelain over cast iron or metal.
