Grout color for white subway tile
Comments (11)Honestly, I think it's a personal preference thing. I've put in subways in various rooms for over 10 years and I always did contrasting grout b/c I like to be able to see that distinction and highlight the pattern. To me, white grout looks blah and artificial somehow. But I've had tilers who have argued vehemently with me that I'm "doing it wrong" when I ask for contrasting grout. I like a really dark contrast, but like jannicone says, the darker the grout the more perfect the tiling job has to be. I've always done a light or medium tone contrast for that reason. Looking at your pics, I think contrasting grout would tie in beautifully with the darker lines of your counter. I think it would also help to break up the all white of the uppers with the tile. Nothing drastic, just a light to med. grey - but that's just MHO....See MoreGrout color for white subway tile
Comments (2)Go with white. You have a gorgeous island with lots of movement - don't compete with it. The subway tile is just a white wall that is scrub-able....See MoreWhich grout color for white subway tile in shower?
Comments (38)All of the tile I used for my bathrooms and kitchen came from RAI Design in Garden City, NY. Specifically I used their light blue penny round tile in the shared bathroom and for my backsplash in the kitchen I used their tile called “Soho”. The “Soho” tile dimensions are labeled as 2x10 but the actual measurements of the tile are about 2.25x9.75. Not too big or too small and the white color is not too bright so as to compete with my white cabinets. I looked at SO MANY white tiles and this one was the best dimensions and color, and rather inexpensive, too. I highly recommend RAI if you are not too far from NY....See MoreThis is where I’m torn and undecided.
Comments (17)I have to agree I am not a fan of mosaic tile. And the one you have is very dark. Be careful with your grout choices. The bottom two are going to look glaring, IMHO, if that is what you were going to use with that mini-brick subway . To envision how it will look, Google “white subway tile“ and “light pewter grout,“ or whatever, and you will generally get a lot of pictures. There just aren’t that many shades of grout. Once you have clarified your cabinetry color and your countertops, you will get a lot of great advice here. But in general, I think the trend in kitchen design is for a very simple backsplash. You don’t see much travertine or mosaic anymore. Good luck with your project! It looks like great fun....See Morebrianadarnell
