Installing a CD player

I have a 1995 Buick Riviera and I would like to put a cd player in it. I purchased a cd player on ebay from another 95 Buick Riviera. My brother was going to put it into the car for me since I wouldn't have a clue how to do it. He says it will not work because my car came with a cassette player and the spot the cd player would have to be in isn't the same size.

So if it will not work how to I go about finding a new cd player that would fit my car? I've tried searching the internet but can't find anything. Any help or suggestions would be great! Thanks!

This is my dash and the cassette player

You are missing the matching radio that goes with the C.D.
The C.D. is wired into the radio for the on off and volume.
Even if you did get it to fit and mount it won't work. Look
at how thick your radio - cassette player is. Then look at
the C.D. you bought.

just goto bestbuy or a circuit city and buy a whole new unit. Many times they have offers on free install. You have to buy the "kit" for your car
Click on the link below and you can see if the stereo will work with your car.

Are you saying your computer has both a DVD player and a CD player installed? If so it is possible your CD player itself may have quit. You can use the DVD player for CDs so you are not stuck at all.

I think some of you guys missed the question - OP is ripping audio book CDs and experiences long rip times with SOME disks. OP, I've ripped a lot of CDs (large music collection) and have encountered this from time to time. You're right, sometimes it's because of scratches. Sometimes it's because a PC has limited memory and prior actions in the current on/off session have used too much of the limited space. Sometimes, the ripping software just doesn't like the CD. Sometimes, nothing seems to work. My suggestion is to turn your PC off, turn it on again, and try using a different program to rip the disk that seems stalled. Try Windows Media player. If no better, download and try Media Monkey for the rip. If no better, then I'd guess it's either a difficult disk or a drive problem.

a model number may be helpful (to somebody) That's the reason I don't buy multiple-disc changers, there's too many mechanical things to go wrong. It may be beyond repair and/or may happen again. You may have to just dismantle the whole thing ....

Is it a Windows PC or a Mac? What program are you using? There is are two different formats - a Data CD is different from an Audio CD. Not physically (a blank is a blank) but relative to the protocols used in when the CD is recorded, so that when it's later put into a player or drive, the hardware knows which it is. Unless you're using a program that assumes audio, like iTunes, you usually need to specify which format to use. Some car CD players will only play CDs made using "audio format", others will use either. Is this problem happening with a fresh, previously unused CD blank?

Thank you kalining and airforceguy for your help. I found some pictures of 95 rivieras that came with CD players and they are not located where the cassette is like I thought they would be, the cd player is farther down the dash so maybe the cd player will fit after all.

Looks like a 1 1/2 din space for the radio to me. If you don't care about having a cassette player, a single din radio with a dash kit and a wireing kit will give you the most to choose from. I have seen some after market 1 1/2 din radios with both cd and cassette players built in but they've mostly been funky off brands, and not to many of those at that.
