I think I planted the Hoosier harmony in the summer of 2010. Maybe it knows I was considering moving it? I don't know..but it sure is unhappy.. They are SAYING we might/should get some rain by Thursday. however I have seen so many storms pop up just north of us, and then melt away before they could deliver... The rain could definitely be called a TEASE so many times this last few weeks. I have been leaving the sunroof up on my car over night, that has ALWAYS made it rain before !

First: I'd want to dig into the assumptions, etc. on the heat load calculations to explain the different size systems. That seems like the obvious first step. Second: I would take this opportunity to consider fixing some of the "character" of the house. Can you put the difference in the cost of these two systems into insulation, air sealing, etc. and end up with better comfort and lower energy bills? I say that as someone who pays a little over $400 a year for natural gas (heat, hot water, range and dryer) in central Indiana where it gets pretty darn cold in the winter. I have done that while maintaining all of the historic character of the 1924 bungalow. You have an energy audit. If it was done well it should provide a road map for where to invest for energy savings. If it was done poorly, it will be standard items without much application to your house.

You can buy a code reader for about $25-$30 and check it yourself if you wanted to spend a few dollars. And as said many places will read it for you and tell you what code is coming up. Knowing what the code is will enable you to do research and find out what it will cost. Mine came on last fall. Found out it was not a major issue so I didn't repair it until I had maintenance done this summer. And yes you can reset it yourself. Disconnecting the battery for a minute or two is one simple way. The check engine light comes on for a variety of reasons. Yes you should find out why in a timely manner but I wouldn't get paranoid over it either if you know enough about vehicles to know if there's something serious or not. I know some people who would stop and have it towed immediately.

I have lived in most states in western USA. Can't say humidity was a THING I noticed until living in MN. I am going to chalk that up to being a child and children just manage? Even in New Mexico I don't remember the heat being a thing. We did the Disney thing in Florida a few years ago. It was October. We were there when the humidity broke for the season. Oppressive and restrictive is all I can say. Everyone crabs about northern winters but as we say you can always put on more clothes--you can only get sooo naked. I will second the bright sun of winter. Often it comes with very frigid days but it is winter, after all. We are having a rather glorious summer. Some humidity true but a week on, some relief then it returns allows for plenty of gardening and outdoor time. I think that is the key, change. Non stop heat/cold/humidity--what ever--is exhausting. I prefer the hit of extremes to the non stop torture of day after day after day--that's what gets me down. The idea of summer in the southern states holds nothing appealing. Maybe a new thread is needed. Where would be the perfect, climate wise,place to live? Four seasons, nothing EXTREME.....
