I was required to take my car for an emission test prior to licence renewal at my birthday, this year, it being the second year ... and after paying my $33.00 - it failed.
They gave me a brochure saying that I could have repair work done, at their or another facility, and there was a cap of $450.00 ... if I paid that much for my repair, they would give me a provisional renewal, good for the next two years. My repairs, including other things, was for more - but I received my pass and renewed my licence.
But - it has to pass next time, or before I can sell it.
The repair shop manager (it's a new-to-me shop - but around since 1922) asked whether I had had the little orange light on the dash that looks like an engine, and said that if that light was on, that I should not even have tried the test, as it was guaranteed to fail (and suggested that the tester might have told me that before they tested).
So ... if you have an emission test coming up and your little orange light that looks like an engine is on - see your repair shop before you go in for a test. Don't throw good money down a rathole.
ole joyfuelled ... with a bit o' help from gas, on occasion (that's the "in the tank" kind, remember)
