Ok - some followups: Lightlystarched - As someone who owns a French Door, I was clearing up your neighbors misconception so others here would not be mislead Vegas t - Hopefully you will really like it as we do. Like you - we did not want ice / water thru the door. had that on our old side by side - it broke twice and took up lots of freezer room. I love the little water dispenser inside - and the filter system is really nice. Plus the ice cube maker is very functional in the bottom freezer and doesn't take up lots of space like an in door unit does. Lm20021 - yes the french doors are very nice and take up lote less room when open - much better IMO than having a single huge door on a top-freezer model chipshot - yes - icemakers may be standard on most 25 cu ft models - but some are thru the door, some are in the bottom freezer. That does make a difference. I did do some googling for whirlpool fridge warranties. Here's what I found: "WHIRLPOOL� REFRIGERATOR WARRANTY SECOND THROUGH FIFTH YEAR FULL WARRANTY ON SEALED REFRIGERATION SYSTEM PARTS AS LISTED In the second through fifth years from the date of purchase, when this refrigerator is operated and maintained according to instructions attached to or furnished with the product, Whirlpool Corporation will pay for FSP� replacement parts and repair labor costs to correct defects in materials or workmanship in the sealed refrigeration system. These parts are: compressor, evaporator, condenser, dryer, and connecting tubing. Service must be provided by a Whirlpool designated service company. Whirlpool" In every operators manual that I have for my appliances, the "Factory Warranty" is included in the "OP Manual". I would take the time to check yours, neversink4. You may have Whirlpool "By the ****'s" in more than one way, as far as your defective fridge goes. I am also linking the URL for the Whirlpool Website where I found this info, (See below). Lest this become a "Whirlpool bash", one can find posts where folks paid for defective evaporators for a very well known and expensive brand of fridge in well under 12 years---Don't take my word for it---goggle it!!!. The point is, "sorrily" that you much be the one to take a "Proactive approach" as to what is or isn't covered under your warranty, Sorry about That!! French door fridges, like the side by sides before them, are designed for kitchens with narrow aisle, or, as in Stan's case, not too narrow aisles which you don't want to crowd. A lot of people dislike the two doors. They look cool in the store, but can get bothersome when you're opening and shutting all the time. It helps if you can organize your most used things to be on the side that opens first. Organized well is highly subjective. I want the greatest adjustability and the least amount of specialization. One thing to keep in mind is that the top of the door on the opening edge may not be the warmest spot in your new fridge. It isn't on my Miele. There's cold air coming in at the top, which counters any warmth from opening or heat rising. I don't know if there's a butterbox altogether, but if there isn't, adding a covered butter dish is easier than choosing your fridge for that one thing. BTW, if your kitchen isn't usually hot, you might be interested in a butter bell, which is kept on the counter and uses water to seal it. The butter is soft and spreadable always, and if you use a stick of butter in a week, it doesn't go bad. It's been very popular in these forums. Beyond that, which interior you like best is really up to you. If you google-images the model numbers you're looking at and "interior" you should get plenty of pictures and be able to tell what it's like if you can't see it in person.

We love our french door fridge! It also has the door in door. Maybe it’s because we’ve had it for a couple of years and have organized it such that I almost never open more than one door at a time. We store everything in the same place when we buy new. Behind left door is condiments, jams, mayo, mustard, tubs of yogurt, left drawer is salad stuff. Right side is tall drinks, tea, milk, wine bottles. Salad dressings in door shelf. Right drawer is fruits. Door in door is creamers, butter, breakfast stuff. I like that if hubby is standing in front, I can just crack one door and grab what I need. I do recall that some of the french door fridges required both doors being opened to get to one side for some reason.
