I got the "potato tubs" from Pinetree Seeds with my usual seed order back in winter. I liked the idea because they fold back down after use. They're by "Gardman" and you can buy them all over the web. Later, my local Agway had them on deep sale, so I got 2 more. I have 3 for potatoes and 3 that will have sweet potatoes when the s.p. slips come in a day or two. (S.P.s like it hot - let's see if they work at all in New Hampshire.) I'm a total potato newbie since this is my first year, but here's what I know. I think you're supposed to start potatoes really early, so you prolly need short season ones now. Not sure if the ones you've mentioned are - a Google search will help you figure that out. We started ours what turned out to be a couple weeks later than usual for around here. They do grow slowly, and we didn't see any growth above ground for quite a while. I've already added soil 1x like the poster above mentioned doing when they got tall. (Actually, I just did that today.) I put in 5 per container, like the directions I have said. (I think I have an article from the web?) You can cut each potato into parts, so long as each part has at least 2 eyes and is a decent sized chunk - sorry, can't remember how big each chunk needs to be. Don't let them cure like some articles/advice tells you - ours rotted in the 2 days they were curing. Our 2nd batch, which we planted right after cutting, is doing fine. You could use any container, really. I've ordered some "Smart Pots" to expand my garden this year. On the Smart Pots website, it also talks about using them for potatoes. Good luck!

Oh good gracious, she sent me EXTRAS. This wonderful lady sent me leaves from 3 other plants, along with all the ones I'd purchased from her. And for a lot of those plants, she gave me 3 leaves, not just 2. Good gracious, I'm going to have plants coming out the wazoo! Another item of interest - somehow I had managed to not notice how many of these are large, not standard. Ack! I think I'm going to have to commit myself to only keeping one of each. Think I'll be able to do it? ;0)

Yeah, my neigbhors asked me how I was able to achieve that many plants. They saw me working on the garden around early March. They were curious about the garden beds I was making. They saw the milk jugs. I explained to them what it was and also gave them the Wintersown site. I actually watched their reactions when they saw it. They didn't pay much attention to it kinda like "oh, ok". However, when plants started to come out/bloom, they went back to me and asked, "was that from the tiny greenhouse". :) I'm going to make more beds maybe by fall once my knee gets better. :D Thanks mnwsgal! :)

That's great news. I am happy for you especially since your son is military. No matter how any of us feel about the war, we appreciate our military people. We spent many holidays alone. Because of the parents and step parents issue, I decided what ever day my children could be with us was "the" holiday. The Christmas my oldest granddaughter was four, they were stationed in Abeline. We lived in San Antonio and my son's father lived in Kingsvile and my DIL's mother lived in Robstown. The kids had their Christmas at home and then drove to SA. The next day we had our Christmas. The day after they drove to Robstown and had Christmans at my DIL's mother's house. They went to my ex's on Christmas morning and had Christmas. Soooooo,my granddaughter got up the day after Christmas expecting it all to happen again. She was a tad disappointed.
