Can you recommend Thermasoft heated floors? Who do you recommend?

I must decide on heated floors soon and was leaning toward Thermasoft ThermoTile until two regulars on GW had problems with the mats. One had a problem because the warning monitor never indicated a kink (during the installation process), and only discovered the problem with the completely tiled floor. The other had the GFCI kick off, resulting in a 30 SF cold spot, after having the floors installed for a year. I am not certain if either situation has been resolved.

If you have had success (lengthy preferred) with Thermosoft, please inform. If you have had success with another radiant heating mat, please post. Your input will be most appreciated as personal experiences are highly regarded and I must choose soon. Thanks in advance.

We DIY installed Warming Systems in our master bath (Jun 07)and kitchen (Nov 07). We've had no problems with either, and have become absolutely addicted to radiante heat.

We DIYed the SunTouch WarmWire system (heating cable). They also make mats. Installed winter of 06/07. No problems at all. Really nice on the feet!

Good link to provide amysrq, that explains a lot! We have engineered Mannington Hickory floors in our home, and I have been very pleased with how well they've worn. We have had four dogs, three cats, grandchildren and regular family foot traffic with shoe and heels without any noticeable scratching or wear. Most of the flooring was installed ten years ago, the remainder was put in two years ago, so our entire lower level is hardwood. A hammer dropped once left a slight ding in the kitchen. The ice maker on our frig broke one night and left a 4 x 5 foot puddle of water standing on the kitchen floors overnight. We mopped up the water, opened up the windows, kept a fan blowing and allowed several days for the floors to dry, and you can't tell now where the water stood. This flooring was not the premium line of hardwood that Mannington carries, either, it is probably considered mid-level. One feature I liked is that I was able to match the newer flooring exactly with what had been installed initially - something to consider if you're only doing certain areas at a time. Although hickory isn't way up there on the hardiness/harness list, ours has held up very well. My son just had Brazilian cherry installed in his house, and has already seen dings and scratches. Consequently, he doesn't let his dogs come inside the house anymore, and asks everyone to leave their shoes at the door. I'd hate to have something that sensitive that you couldn't live life as usual inside your own home! Flextherm floor heating vs. Schluter Ditra floor recommendations?

I have installed (as a DIY'er, in my home) several floor heating systems. Warmly Yours, and Warmwire. I believe that they are all quality, and will perform well, if properly installed. Who knows - all this cable could come out of the same factory in China? "Does it have a two for one wiring system?" What is that? If you trust your installer, and he has had success with Flextherm. then I'd go with his advice. It's all going to cost about the same with labor, thermostat, electrical circuit. There are procedures when installing the cable - taking ohm readings, at different phases of the installation. All the cables should last a long time. My Warmly Yours is 10 years old.

What rooms are you planning on installing in-floor electric heating and under what type of surface? We installed a Sun Touch electric floor mat beneath a Ditra membrane which is under large format ceramic tiles, this was before Schluter Ditra-Heat was available. Schluter is the ‘Gold’ standard for wet room waterproofing and large format ceramic tile floor decoupling. They are ‘It’, that’s all there is to it! No one does more research or puts more into product development than Schluter, ask at any high-end kitchen/bathroom fixture & tile store. Our bathroom was done almost 5-years ago and still looks as good as the day the installer left. I would not consider doing any wet room with ceramic walls and floors without a full Schluter waterproof membrane system – and neither would my wife! As with anything else installation is everything; choose a Schluter accredited specialist! BTW: MUCH of our Schluter installer’s business is redoing bathrooms less then 5-years old that were done without Schluter costing $50k to $80k! I KNOW this is true because he was working right in our home when he would be getting these calls with people sending him pics of their disasters by e-mail to his smart phone. I heard the conversations and saw the pictures. You can’t imagine their shock when they heard their projects could not be saved and that they’d have to start over - from scratch! I love quietly asking people, after they rave about their projects, “Tell me, if you had to do it all over again, what would you do differently?” That’s when the truth comes out. You both say that it's great on the feet, which is why I keep considering it, even though we live in the South. Cold tile does not feel 'just peachy' on cold mornings, regardless of where you live.

Weedy, I have followed some of your posts. When you put down your kitchen mats, was it because you were re-tiling your kitchen? Why did you chose 'Warming Systems?'

We remodeled the whole kitchen; hence the new floor. We had put heated floors in our master bath and loved them so much we decided to put them in the kitchen as well.

We chose Warming Systems because they were the least expensive. I looked all over the internet and most companies were $8/sq foot and up. WS was like $3.62. It's not a mat; instead, you tape the wire to the floor. But it's pretty simple to put in. And it works great.

I seem to spend so much time on the internet these days looking for answers, that I can truly appreciate and respect someone else's research. Do you know if Warming Systems makes a mat? My installers have never put in radiant heating before so I am thinking that I should stick to a mat product, to make it as simple as possible ... for them and for me. I'm already introducing them to Kerdi, I don't want to drive them TOTALLY crazy.

If you get a chance to revisit an older thread, you and I were on the same post a couple of weeks ago. It was entitled "What about a 'shower pan' instead of tiled floors?' I asked you some questions regarding some pics you posted, but the thread kind of ended. It's currently on page 9, or thereabouts. If you have the time to revisit it, would you do so? I would still like to know about shower glass. Thanks so much.

Well here I am again. I redid my master bath several years ago when SunTouch first came out. I've had it about 3 years now (heck, maybe more -- I'd have to search the posts) and I could NOT be happier with it. It costs us maybe $2 per month and it is awesome. We have it in our tiny master bath, and in our huge den (huge to me -- 26 x 26).

We like it so much that we'll be putting it in our kitchen remodel (next on the list). I also just put it in my spare bath and love it.

I had a heating contractor over a few days ago (actually 4 -- we need a new heat pump and I was getting estimates). I mentioned it when showing our intake vents and he took off his shoes and stepped on our bathroom floor. His expression said everything. It is simply great.

We haven't had any problems and have had it over 3 years.

mommielady: I don't think WS makes a mat, though their website seems to imply that they do. You might try calling them to find out.
