I can't find any information on "platinum steel" at all, but I would assume that it's a whiter gray color than the ordinary stainless. It's probably very pretty. But if you're getting a lot of stainless steel in your kitchen, if my assumption is correct, it might look funny with the rest. Sometimes, especially in a partially open kitchen, the fridge is the only appliance showing. If so, it might not matter to you if the hidden appliances (e.g., oven) don't match, and if the big, showing one is a pretty color.

I loved the aluminum fronts that Gaggenau offered my ovens in. I have a stainless Advantium on the other side of the room, same height, however, and a couple of stainless faucets, plus the cooktops with black in the middle. That was enough to dissuade me. I don't have a great love for the stainless look (it seems "ordinary" and "functional" to me, since I grew up with stainless), and thought the aluminum was lovely, but all these disparate appliances look fine together because they're all more or less stainless with black trim. The blue of the aluminum would have stuck out, even though it would be on its own wall.

Maybe there's a functional difference too, like if one shows fingerprints and smears more, and I might be wrong about the color thing, but it's something to keep in mind.

I do not have the sub zero, but I have the Samsung Platinum fridge.I love it and wish I could get the platinum colour in the rest of my appliances but unfortunately they only come in stainless, which is a pain to keep clean.The platinum colour is a little darker greyish colour, looks like brushed stainless. The nice think about it is that you can clean it with a damp cloth or towel et voila. It does not smear or leave any prints, and no need to use any cleaning products. I wipe mine several times every day especially the handles( I have a 17 year old who likes to explore the fridge with sticky hands). My advice to you is to go to lowes or another store that carries a platinum colour appliance so you can see for yourself.

Thanks for the responses, and I think my question is more of an aesthetic one, in that how would the platinum mix with SS. It wouldn't be "next" to a SS unit, but in the same small kitchen.

If it's the darker gray, rather than the whiter one that the name implies, it won't stand out as much, and should blend better. If you have a lot of stainless low, like an all stainless range or dishwasher, the color will be more noticeable. If the colors are close the difference won't be very noticeable. If the colors are almost, but not quite, close, it'll look like a mistake, and could look pretty awful. If the colors are significantly different, it won't look bad but it'll bother people who think they should match.

What really matters is how it looks to you. The best way to know for sure is to see an actual SubZero in platinum in a showroom kitchen with other stainless appliances.

I have the same setting in my kitchen,the fridge is platinum (dark grey )while the rest of the appliances are SS.The fridge is on one side while the rest of the appliances are on the other.It is not clashing at all, and you will love the easiness of cleaning the platinum one. But again the best thing is to see the actual colour of the SZ .

We thought we could be of some assistance. The platinum finish is no longer available for new Wolf and Sub-Zero products. It sounds like you may be purchasing a previously owned platinum version Sub-Zero. Our platinum finish tends to be lighter in color than our classic stainless steel. Also, the classic stainless steel is grained, where as the platinum does not have a grain pattern.
