Honda Odyssey electrical question

Hi all,

I have a 2001 Odyssey. My front intermittent wiper and wiper fluid isn't working, nor is my rear wiper and fluid. I've checked the fuses, and the "front wiper" fuse was blown, and I replaced it. However, it didn't help any of the problems. I talked with the Honda service dept, and he said there wasn't anything else to do, but to bring it in.

Any ideas of what I might do to get this working again, without a visit to Honda? Thanks!

Do you have a test light, or a multimeter ?
There is a reason that fuse blew , find out why..
And you may need the manual and the electrical schematic...

Thanks earthworm,
I think it's time to take it in. We found another blown fuse to the rear wiper (wasn't blown this morning). Replaced it and it blew again. Now the windows won't open, and their fuses are in another compartment. Bummer.
I hope I can still drive it without anymore bad things happening.

Not the new normal. Is it in Warranty? I would lean towards the crank as well or some other internal friction. If itÂs in Warranty I would take it up with Honda and not ask too many questions of the owner. If not covered, since you have already ruled out the obvious stuff it is either they live with it or keep exploring, which could get expensive.

All my life I had been a 'Buy American/Buy Union Made' guy. Also a devout customer of the Ford Motor Company. However, this summer all of that changed. I ordered a brand new Ford truck, and after waiting 8 weeks, was given the shaft by the dealer and Ford Motor Company. I was so incenced that I went out the next day and bought a new Honda Ridgeline truck and have been extremely pleased with it. And next year I am going to get rid of DW's 2 year old Focus and I'm getting her a Honda car. I don't own any Honda OPE 'yet', but I will definitely check them out next time I'm in the market.

You maybe interested in the link below. There is a massive recall soon to begin on Honda Odysseys and I believe the recall includes your vehicle. This recall is about the strainer cover for the fuel pump, and I beleive that part is on the fuel tank, not under the hood. Has your vehicle been examined for cause or source of your fire? I'd think that your insurance company would be interested to know why. However, in your case your vehicle has been declared a total loss and presumable your insurance company has offered payment accordingly. If so, you have not suffered a loss provided you got fair payment for the remaining value of your vehicle before the fire. You could have had lost contents in the car of high value such as a fur coat, a valuable painting, or a bag of money and that may create an argument about the loss. So, what in you opinion, was the cause of the fire? Here is a link that might be useful: Honda Recall of Odyssey

a friend bought a small car with a 5speed overdrive manual trans. we went on a trip together when he had about 5k miles on the car. we got on the highway and he got up to speed and had it in 4th gear. hmm, i asked him if he used overdrive and you should have seen the look on his face. huh, what over drive? he was not very mechanically inclined but to not realize he had an extra gear was funny. no harm done to the car. just not as good of gas mileage. the shift knob was beige and the gear indicators were not marked with contrasting paint so it was hard to see. most cars will run at about 2k rpm at 60 mph. i think even a weazy little honda 4cyl will too. i could go to a honda website to find out the OD gear ratio but i think 2k is right.

It sounds to me like one of the wiper assemblies (the front one , seems like) is shorting and blowing out the whole circuit.

Get an auto electrician (or someone else who can) to check the wiper assemblies. It is not unusual for them to give trouble.

Also, sometimes water from a split washer tank can short out the motor on the pump underneath the tank.

Just got back from the the Honda service department. It was the washer motor.....it had gotten "smashed". I asked the guy how the heck this happens, and he said it's very close to the bottom of the front of the car, under the hood, and it might have gotten whacked from below somehow. Was going to explain this to me further, but didn't. Anyhow.....the intermittents and washer on the front are on the same circuit as the back, which is why none of it was working. The regular wipers on the front were still working.......so maybe they do that as a precaution of when something like this happens, you'll still have some wiper left.

Just a washer motor ? Well, if anything is mounted low, in harms way - nothing better than a non-essential.
But the unit should have its own fuse...I hope the repair cost was not too high...

Hi earthworm,
It only cost $118 to replace the motor.......but I also had a 112,500 mile service, front and back brake pads, and front rotors. Unfortunately......it came to about $955.
I guess I can't complain, I really haven't had to put much into this car for 6 years......just routine maintenence. And this place is totally honest and reputable......which is a very nice change from the Volvo place I used to go to.
