How to get sink against right wall with baseboards in the way?
Comments (9)Sorry for taking a while to update on this, our bathroom/kitchen renovation was being finished up - it is done! - and it was so crazy hectic! Now my work begins, where I do all the little things I asked to be done that were not, such as resealing the marble shower tiles, caulking the whole shower area (they only grouted!), fixing drywall, etc. But I am so relieved, so happy, to have my home back, that nothing could bother me! As to the original issue, well, it turns out that all the pondering was for naught. It turns out our bathroom walls are not square so with the sink/vanity up against the back wall, there is a gap on the right side that widens as you move towards the front. Here, the gap is large enough for the baseboard to be passed behind (to the right of) the front leg. It is narrower towards the back, where the baseboard was cut and butted up against the back leg. Not pretty, but no one will see it (except me, when I'm cleaning). Unfortunately, there is still the gap between the sink and right wall and we're not sure what to do about it at this point. Anyway, this is on the backburner for now, I am just going to enjoy how much nicer everything is and be happy! Thanks again to everyone for all of your ideas!...See MoreShould there be caulk around pedestal sink and toilet?
Comments (23)I agree with Enduring that I don't want pee to sneak and coagulate under that edge. (not just small boys, but old men too!) IF you do it right, you can caulk with a color similar to the floor and push your finger around the base so that you never see the caulk, but it stops anything, (like floor washing water or dripping down the front pee). Any moisture under that edge can mildew if it is not caulked. The back left open to detect a leak but you can't see that or actually it is tough to get your caulking gun back there anyway. Regarding the sink, same deal. Push the caulk under with your finger so you don't see it unless you are lying on the floor. -Babka...See Morepedestal sink size and placement
Comments (5)I have a bathroom the same size and originally had ordered a 27" Kohler pedestal Memoirs sink too. As the installation was happening I realized it was going to be way too close to my glass shower doors and had visions of bumping into them forever after every time I used the sink. So I switched to the 24" size. It fits but the bowl is quite noticeably smaller. It works okay but to be honest if I had the chance to do it again I'd probably do some more serious sleuthing for a 24" sink whose bowl was a little larger. It is much smaller than the 27" size. My advice is, if possible, try to compare both so you know exactly what you are giving up. I agree with you though, I don't think having the sink touching a wall on one side is going to look very nice-and if you set it up that way, you may end up with the same ergonomic issue (having it too close and bumping into it with hands/arms). Good luck. Ann...See MoreBacksplash for wall mount sink against drywall?
Comments (16)numbersjunkie, badgergal, loves2read: Thank you for the suggestions. Using numberjunkie's idea, I looked into just a band of tile that would come out from the shower and run along that wall right at the sink level, to function as a backsplash. But it looked odd with no tile or wainscotting below. (Our house is a little too contempo for wainscotting.) Vinyl wallpaper is one thing I hadn't thought of. We spent so much time/money removing wallpaper when we moved in (think 60s psychedelics), I'd have to talk my wife into tryiing it again. But I like that. Or maybe, as badgergal suggests, I could get by with a quality paint (semi-gloss probably). You've been quite helpful!...See Morefivefootzero
