Looking for make up vanity pictures

I would love to see everyone's make up vanity area or your inspiration photo's. Need to design mine in a few days if possible, 5 days at the most!!. I am not needing the vanity with the sink, just the area's you sit down & do your make up & hair. Thanks for any inspiration & advice in this area. Terri

You must be either male (like the architect of that bath, which is like getting a kitchen designed by someone who doesn't cook) or have perfect eyesight, or not wear makeup! A magnifying mirror at that distance will not work for makeup application. It needs to be no more than 12" away. Closer, if you have vision correction for myopia. And then when old age and presbyopia hits, you would need even more magnification at about 14"-16" away. A mirror 21" away never works. And that is why smaller portable makeup mirrors are popular. Especially those with variable magnification. I do really like the lift up top that conceals the ephemera, and a distance mirror never goes amiss. I just take issue with areas like this being termed a "makeup" area when they aren't usable as such by most of the population that actually wears the stuff. Not without accessory mirrors and lighting, that is. To that end, having that outlet within that recess to which a small accessory makeup mirror could be plugged into would makes the whole space more usable for sure. Jeannie, I'm glad for you that you've decided your lighting will be okay. Since you mentioned that you have two recessed lights overhead, one thing you can do is aim (angle) the light so it hits the center of your sink bowl and make-up vanity more than it does now. Depending on the size and style of your recessed lights, there are different types of angled trim kits. If you have 6" or 5" housings, there are lots of eyeball trims, which can typically angle the light up to 30 degrees. Even if you have smaller 3" or 4" housings, there are eyeballs or gimbal trims which can angle light 30-40 degrees. Good luck! -- Eric

I had a vanity area with two drawers running parallel to the top; it was between both sinks in my last house. The makeup section dropped down four or five inches or so from the sink vanity counters but had the same marble top. I really liked it because I could sit while making up and I had a nice lighted free standing magnifying mirror. In the house I am in now storage took priority as there is only one hall closet to service another bath and towels and all the rest on that end that includes three bedrooms. In this house I put vertical storage in the section I wanted a makeup vanity and a bank of drawers underneath, that still left a bit of countertop as the top section vertical is only twelve inches deep. However, I have wall mounted extension magnifying mirrors at each sink vanity and IÃ¢ÂÂm actually very happy with that. If you do not need much extra storage go for the makeup vanity. All you need is a horizontal drawerÃ¢ÂÂs bridge piece between the two sink vanities. Just make sure you position your bridge at a height compatible for comfortable vanity chair height. Edited to add: Also make sure you have a plug in that area. Is this a DIY? If so, you could look on ScherrÃ¢ÂÂs where you could buy the cabinets all put together with the middle bridge with drawers or check out Conestoga. The concept of negative space means that not every nook and cranny have to be filled. Let the eyes rest. One thing you could do if you're looking to do something different is instead of the basic wall art, how about framed prints in a vertical column? That way you can use a number of pieces without it filling up the wall. I've had that for many years, and it looks great. Another idea is a tapestry. Take your time and get pieces you love.

I know you are looking for an easy DIY way to do this, so here are some more images that might have inspirations...

Open shelving instead of drawers, could add pretty matching bins to hold stuff:

Thank you so much Stacey, you always seem to find exactly the type of thing I am looking for. Lots of great idea's there that I can use. I have already spent way over what I originally had planned & DH is laughing saying the only part left is the make up area to buy & all the sudden I want to save money. LOL I really haven't been buying the best of anything, except maybe the panasonic whisper fan, but it adds up fast as I am sure you already know. Bathroom is a total gutted mess but starting Monday it should be getting put back together. Keep your fingers crossed everything goes as planned. Ended up having to hire a plumber & contractor is doing most of the rest of the work. Terri

Sorry I don't know how to post pics. But, I have mine at the end of the sink/vanity run. It drops down alittle lower than the regular vanity and I have a pony wall at the other end of it. I have two small drawers beneath the granite top. I dropped it because I thought having it the same height would not be comfortable when applying make-up.
I still haven't decided if I want 1 large mirror or 2 individual mirrors for this area. I do have 2 lights - 1 over each space.
