Mownie's been right on this one all along. There is always confusion between how temperature effects matter and how temperature effects humans. Temperature on matter effects the kinetic energy in the matter. Temperature on humans is felt as the "rate of heat loss". Humans want to be at 98.6F. No more, no less. When the ambient temperature is around 70F and you add the heat generated by the pumping of the heart and average movement, the human body reaches the 98.6 and pure happiness ensues. When we lower the temperature the rate of heat loss increases. Most people will say they are cold, but it is actually "the rate of heat loss" they are feeling. If you add a wind to this, the rate of heat loss will increase and humans will say they are colder. They should really be saying that their rate of heat loss is higher but they don't. Anyway, wind chill has no effect on matter except to get it to the actual temperature quicker, but on living beings this increase in heat loss becomes the same as lower temperature. By the way to test this. Go into your cold shed and touch a piece of metal and then touch a piece of cloth. You have to agree that if both materials have been in there all night they are both the same temperature. So why is the metal feeling so much colder then the cloth. Only because the metal is sucking away your heat quicker then the cloth. As humans we would say the metal is colder, but it is not. So in a nutshell, human's do not feel temperature, they only feel heat loss. Hope that makes sense.

This is my first time on here, so I don't exactly know how to post so here goes. My JD-425 has a flooding problem. Sometimes it runs ok, and sometimes not. When I turn on the ignition, the fuel pump starts (as normal) and I can usually start it. Then, after running for a while, it begins flooding. This is between 15 minutes and half an hour most of the time. I can keep it running if I go full throttle and have the tractor under load, like mowing grass, but there is so much gas entering the carb that there is a bit of black smoke as well. If I stop it and remove the air cleaner, and look into the carb, there is gas everywhere. Here is what I did so far... The carb was new 3 years ago. But I removed it, and took it apart (did this 3 times). Each time I took it apart and put it back together, I know I did it right because the machine started and ran as noted above. I thought it just might be plugged or something. The first time I took it apart I also replaced the electric solenoid valve, just to be sure. And I know it works, because I saw it operating with the carb disassembled. Then, I thought it might be that the float valve was leaking or perhaps the floats had a hole and was full of gas. All was good. When the carb was back together, I blew into the fuel hose when the carb was full of gas and proved that the float valve was working. Hmmm. There is a manual in-line fuel shutoff valve, so what I did was throttle it back so that it would take 30 seconds to to let about an ounce of fuel out. Full blast, the pump actually pumps a lot of fuel. This time, I was able to keep the machine from flooding too bad. And was able to mow the 1 acre of grass I have. Today, however was different. It ran for about 5 minutes, then began to act up. I turned it off, removed the air cleaner and looked into the carb. When I turn the ignition switch on, (not engaging the starter) I can see tons of gas coming out of every carb orifice, flooding into the engine gas everywhere. This is without the engine running. The only thing I can come up with is that the fuel pump for some unknown reason has too much pressure behind it. Another wierd thing is that when I turn a sharp corner, under the flooding condition, the flooding gets noticably worse. Any ideas anyone? Is there a pressure regulator somewhere in the fuel pump line? Thanks.

Brrrrrrrrrr, yeah I say you need that fuel truck, muey pronto! I would love that wood stove, grew up with one, and have thought about putting one in here. The closest I have is a couple of them Mexican outdoor fireplaces, one pottery, and one cast iron with several grills that one could cook on, but I have not even built a fire in one this year, it has been warm most of the time and things are tinderbox dry, so burn bans are in effect. ----------- > >Bill, I have heard of them but haven'had a chance to listen to them yet. Most of what I have is instrumental. They are awsome, PBS has a deal where for a donation you can get a video cassette or DVD for a certain amount. I really love a lot of good instrumentals, and the background music in lots of songs, like Johnny Cash, When the man comes around, or Dwight Yocham's Turn it on, turn it up and turn me loose. Lots of good pickin on that, that I can only try to emulate with my guitar. When I was a cop in Dallas many years ago, we used to check out at the Sporatorium and go in occasionally while the wrestling was going on. It was more fun to watch the fans than the wrestling to me. The sad and ill fated Fritz Von Eric family was from this area and I saw something on T.V. just recently, an interview with his widow and her talking about all the tragic events, and their one remaining son. I have not really got into much except music downloads thus far, althought there are DVD Videos, as well as other types of media you can search for, programs, software etc. etc. Yeah, I remember some of those old commercials, liked the Burma Shave ones, Everyone probably remembers "See the USA in your _________ (fill in the blank)and probably Route 66. I know that the theme song from Bonanza and High Noon could be found. I have Marty Robbins, The Hanging tree. I do not know any words for such things as those weird Clint Eastwood spagetti westerns and have not tried to find them. If I live long enough and get to where I can not do as much outside like welding and gardening, I hope to set aside time to learn how to imbed music in emails. I think that there is a way to do that with a small file that does not take up many kb's and wouldn't it be neat to be able to put some sound effects into a posting here like you can pictures or those little animated graphics you occasionally see. Thanks for sharing your experience. It's so great to hear from others who have gone through the process. We are building a house out in the country, as well. We are planning on doing the back up generator (we are in wyoming) so it's nice to hear that it is worth the extra cost. We are not putting in a basement (the water table is too high on our property) but I do have some concerns about my laundry/mudroom. I don't know the dimensions but we ended up stealing space from that area to make our master bath even larger. In the end we are doing a stackable washer and dryer but that will leave me room for a big closet for coats, as well as, a smaller closet with a doggie door for the cat boxes. We will also have room for a bench/cubbie unit. I've worried that I will hate the stackable washer and dryer (I'm short and with 3 small kids they will be used alot) but I thought I'd appreciate the extra storage. The mud is ridiculous here but we've been living in a mobile home on our property for a year while we built so I'm hoping that just the extra space (3 kids, 3 cats, 3 dogs in less than 1100 square feet now) will help me look past the mud that will be inevitable for a long time. We are afraid to pave our road because my hubby worries he will just tear it up snowplowing with his tractor in the winter. And it's true that gravel is cheap (relatively) and can make a big difference. We are doing a playroom in the bonus space above the garage but otherwise our house is just one level - thank you so much for sharing.
