Coil troubles

I recently was given a 1981 honda civic to use as a hornet race car. This car was used as a race car before so its already been gutted. I think it will be a good first car but I don't seem to be gatting power to the coil. Help please!!

Probably some simple trick - Flick the switch that says Ign after you turn the knob back by the tail-light.

sfhellwig: No Problem Dude ! I can see that you are apparently getting the run around by your local Repair Facilities and are feeling the frustration. Since you are the Originator of this Thread no foul in expanding the Coil Trouble Shooting Criteria lol . I hate when Threads are Hijacked . If you follow what Baymee has advised for Safety (Bail & Torquing Specs) You should not damage the Bonded Brake Liner or Damage the Flywheel by over-tightening . If you do not have a Torque wrench use a normal 3/4" drive ratchet with 3/4" till snug unless you are a Gorilla no foul . If you feel a Small brass hammer is to evasive utilize a Fibre (Plastic) face mallet . Follow my or Tomplums advice and you will have the Flywheel of asap without incident ! I have removed two lawnmower and 3 Chainsaw Flywheels in the last month and only used 3 finger puller on the one chainsaw which was 40 yrs old it req'd the penetrating oil overnight soak since it was galled on pretty bad . Patience and gentle tapping & prying allowed removal without any thread damage . Hey don't fret $30-$60 I have seen some Coil / ignition modules go for $130+ . Sad that your Repair Agent is such a deadbeat , I have picked up used dealer units for a third of original price which outlasted the Original Mowers lol . Hi asolo, What do you mean by "Are your voltages correct"? Do you mean was it wired to the house correctly? I had an electrician check my 3-prong plug, and the HHGregg people connected it. Before I call GE, I should probably test the temperature of water on the various settings, right? Thanks for your help.

Reuse 1 yr old furnace to attic and match coils to condenser?

You need to get involved with a quality dealer and forget the GC. Dealer needs to follow up on the matching R-22 evap coil from Frigidaire. It seems this is the way to go assuming you have no performance issues with the AC. Do you even know? Third party evap coils are available in the marketplace. I don't care for them but you already have a mismatched system of different brands. If for some reason existing Frigidare condenser can not be used, then I would go for a Bryant 13 SEER condenser with matching coil. You can't go with a 4 ton condenser because your blower motor on the furnace is only rated up to a 3 1/2 ton. As asked previously, you have good access to attic for moving the furnace? What size living space is your home? Dealer will need to extend or replace existing lineset most likely. That's the way to go. Drop the GC on the HVAC aspect of your home's modification. IMO

Do you know how to use a test light , peacewize ?
That and the manual and you are in business..

Other-wise, plan on a trip with a large towing bill to a shop desperate for work and a $$$ bill.

yeah I have a test light but I can't seem to find a manual for it because its so old

Can't find a repair manual? Try you local library. Many libraries subscribe to an on-line repair manual service.

Since this was a race car, the circuits may have been modified. Look for a manual kill switch. It'll be a switch that has been added and is not part of the original equipment. There may be hidden switch as well to keep someone from driving the car away. Some drivers don't bother with a key switch in their race cars; They use a manual switch plus a hidden one.

Ok heres an update. I traced all the wires frome the coil to see were they go and if there was a break in the line somewere and right by the ignition switch there was a wire that wasn't connected. I didn't notice it before because the person who had this car before me spliced a different wire on to it so it didn't match up with anything on the ignition. The wiring on this car is totaly butchered almost everything has been cut and spliced onto something so I've spent the last 2 days geting all the wiring back to how its supposed to be. after I got the wires put back together I tried to start it but it would only pop a few times so I'm going to adjust all the timing stuff to were the manual says its supposed to be (found one at the library thanks jemdandy)

Since this was a race car and was given away, don't be surprised if the engine has been trashed. The first thing I'd do is run a compression check. Next, check out the transmission, brakes, then steering components and alignment.

The rod and main bearings, and/or cam shaft may be bad too.
