I went Treasure Shopping!

That's my name for TS shopping! Lots of stuff being donated right now as people clean out and organize for the New Year.

Here's what I found:

Two of the cabbage plates for $1.99 each less the senior discount. I have one bigger one, so thought I might be able to use these for a tablescape this spring.

These deer were only $2.99 for both minus the 10% senior discount--didn't need them but couldn't just leave them there! LOL

I always watch for cute little mice items for a long time friend of mine--thought these were a good buy at only $1.99.

And you just KNOW I couln't pass up this sweet little cup with a squirrel and ACORN on it!

Saw lots of other things that were a bit tempting, but I've been watching that show "Hoarders" and I don't want to end up like them! LOL

My favorite are the cabbage plates. Normally, they're expensive! I've been looking to buy a couple of pieces, but they have never been in my price range.

Luvs great 'Treasure Shopping'!

Cute little mice and those reindeer will be wonderful to display next year... but I have to agree with OA, my favorite is the cabbage plates. I've seen them also and am waiting for a bargain before I purchase any.

We got our rain! Looks like a pretty good amount. Everything is thoroughly soaked. Amazing how much good the rain can do for plants. Glenda, You have had much cooler night temps then we have had. It has been in the high 90s during the day and high 80s at night. At 1 o'clock in the morning the temps would still be in the mid to upper 80s. Awful. Cameron, I am so sorry about your weather. I know the last time I flew to SC to see my daughter, I couldn't believe how brown everything was from Atlanta to SC. It was an olive green. I have never seen the South like that. The lakes were down really far and some almost dried up! I could see columns of smoke rising from the fires burning here and there all over. This must be the fourth or fifth year for you guys to be in drought conditions, huh? Man! We had a ten year drought and it was devastating. Nearly broke the banks because the farmers had no crops and the ranchers were having to sell off their livestock because there there was no hay to feed them. All the cattle ponds had dried up. This year, all the rain and precip. we got in winter and this spring really made the difference. The trees were able to get moisture further down in the ground, so the plants closer to the surface are not having to compete with them for whatever there is near the surface. I have had to water every day through this Heat Wave, but everything is doing pretty good, considering this early hot weather. The only exception being the veggie garden - insects ruined my cool weather crops. But even the areas further out where I never water look good. The garden phlox are the first to indicate drought. When they shrivel up, I know we are in drought. It's still very overcast and gray out, so we might get more rain. Hope this heat wave and drought ends for everyone... and moves on up to Washington where they could use a little heat and drying out. BTW, has anyone heard from MeMo lately. She blew out her knee(s?) trying to move plants and do things she shouldn't be doing by herself. She doesn't have one person to help her when or how she needs it the most. Wondering if she is in the hospital. Oh dear! I am just heartsick for her over her beautiful cottage garden plans. She worked so hard at designing it and digging those beds and her veggie garden. Then digging up her plants out on the ranch and transplanting them, mulching them, babying them along, only to be told it would all have to be dug out. And to make matters worse, this all happened right when the heat wave hit. Good grief! I would have been devastated. I worry about her. ~Annie

Oh NOOOO!!! I told my Sis-IL that deer would eat her hosta (she was given some recently and I had given her some a couple of years ago) and they hadn't touched any of the ones I gave her (S&S and Blue Angels) but this year, the deer came out of their woods and devoured the 'Plantaginea' and 'Royal Standards' she'd just gotten! So sad--I don't know if I'd even try to keep going with hosta if it were a rampant problem for me. Who knows, in time they may venture into our part of the neighborhood as I understand they can even jump 12 ft. (and higher)fencing!! I'm so sorry, Alexa--if it ain't hail it's deer, huh and then there's those voles, slugs, neems and hvx--life can be tough on a hosta--really!

LOL, Milosmom, scary is a good description! But guess I saw some potential since I bought the darn thing. I just wasn't sure what till I got it. I left most of the bows on, partly cause I didn't want to mess up the acorns he'd welded on them too. Kathleen, I just got the acorn tree last week. I'd posted a pix in one of Luv's posts the other day. I'll have to wait till next Fall to use it. The gold color was kind of "brassy" looking to me, so I just sprayed a dark bronze on it then added a pale gold over that. I think I'll like it better. I should have waited to take the photo but didn't know I was going to be doing all this. LOL. I don't know if I'll want to use 7 tall candles, that's really not my preference in candles. Wonder if the little glass candle holders would work? Thoughts, anyone? hugs, Karen

Thanks everyone. It did make me feel good. Not that I needed the extra clothes but at least something new lifted my spirits. Last week I went to Walmart for groceries and saw the bedspread that DH and I had. I decided to buy one because it is lightweight but warm....got a different color though. Bought matching pillowcases as well. Then I went to Joann Fabrics and bought yarn. I am knitting a new afghan for me bed. Sometimes it just the little things that will perk me up. You gotta stop watching Hoarders!! LOL.
But you did good on your shopping jaunt. That mug with the squirrel and acorn is so cute, just what you needed.
Now you found the deer,you can make a Winter tablescape!

Oh, I meant to tell you I found this strange metal acorn tree at shopgoodwill.com. Its a candleholder! Weird huh?

Love the cabbage plates and the squirrel is tooo cute (one of my favorite critters), the little mice are so adorable and the deer are lovely.
I have a similiar set of deer that I haven't used in a couple of years but may need to think about that for Christmas this year. *S*

OA, I wasn't looking for the cabbage plates. There were only two of them and I couldn't leave them there knowing I was getting two for less than I would pay for one elsewhere. Yes, they are the Pinhiero ones. They made me think of corned beef and cabbage! LOL

Kathleen, can't wait to see what you found at CTS. Did they have Christmas clearance on top of their already fantastic prices?

Karen, that acorn tree is a bit much me thinks! Maybe they should have left the ribbon looking things off at least--just too too much!

Don't have a clue about what to use with the deer for a tablescape. They are both alike, I just turned one around the opposite way. Maybe put one on a pedestal and one down lower? Milosmom, you will have to bring yours out and show me how to use them for a centerpiece. ;o)

I was tickled about the little mice ornaments. As you can see from the tags that they started out for $9.99. I don't know if I can wait until next Christmas to give them to my friend or not! Like many of you, I get so excited when I find something I know a friend would love!

Jeanne, I do exactly the same thing--take some to donate then go inside and drag more stuff home! "Hoarders here I come!" LOL

Cute mice for your friend!! The deer are wonderful for lots of occasions! The squirrel acorn mug is so cute, reminds me of couple of years ago, I went out back & kept stumbling, my yard had become a squirrel warehouse. The little guy/gal was sure a busy one, there were about 25 golf ball sized holes,not very deep, just enough to make me stumble. I looked around & discovered a number of pots were "blooming" nice big orange persimmons! I wondered what the holes were for so got a blanket & curled up in a chair at far side of yard & was very quiet.(I don't encourage squirrels at all as I have hummers & a birdbath & suet in winter hung far out on a small branch so squirrels don't mess with it) at last the squirrel showed up with 1 of my neighbor's persimmons, I watched as he ran around trying out 2-3 of the holes, well he was happy with 1 & took off to get another & he did the same thing. Well, that was a valiant effort but every persimmon was 2/3 above ground! I figured he would have to get a lesson so I got a metal strainer & put them all in it. A few had teeth marks rest he must have held by the stem, I kept those & when they got soft made cookies!! The squirrel...he gave up as following day there was just a single persimmon in the yard. I think he munches on apples & oranges from time to time,that's OK, plenty for both of us& birds too! My neighbor loved some of the cookies ,too!

OMG, that Hoarders show is unbelievable! It is a sickness though, so I doubt you'll end up like that Luvs. (at least your DH hopes not)!!! LOL

You got some great items, and yes, those cabbage plates are usually at TJ Max or Home Goods & they do not mark them down!! Good deals.

I haven't been out of the house to bargain shop since New Years. My back problems have gotten worse, pain down my left leg all the time & am going to be going back to phys. therapy next week.

It kills me to walk around one store, my DH has been doing all the grocery shopping lately!

Luvs, great finds! I especially love the white deer, they are beautiful. The cabbage plate will come in handy for spring/Easter. I've watched that Hoarders show too and it crosses my mind whether I could get like that with the amount of "stuff" I just have to have! So far, I'm trying to put that stuff to use though and not just have it laying all over the house!

Luvs and Karen, Great finds and I can hardly wait till I can go yard saling and find some goodies too. I love the deer and think you could use them on your table or mantel and they will look great. The mice are sooo cute and the cup is so you. Karen, I really like the candle holder you bought and can hardly wait to see candles in it and displayed.

My kids just brought me some dishes this week and I'm tickled. They sure don't keep anything very long. I got some very cute snowflake plates from DS so may have to make a table.hah

Sunnyca, that was quite a story about the squirrel. Didn't you feel a bit guilty taking his food stash? LOL

Yachter, I'm sorry to hear you are having lots of pain again. Hope you can get some relief soon. By the way, how are the puppies? Did you find homes for all of them?

DD and Yachter, isn't that show something? For those who haven't seen it, it is on the A&E channel and usually shows two different people each week. And yes, it does seem to be a disease because they keep "everything" and barely have paths to walk through. Unfortunately, it seems to also include filth and unsanitary conditions. Have to feel sorry for the apartment owners who rent to one! I'm only joking when I allude to becoming one, it is a sad thing for sure.
