So a few little tables...

Part of the dinner that was supposed to be NY Eve..jumbo shrimp francaise over angel hair and spinach and cheese casserole..

This is a table from during the week...plates I got a few yrs ago after Christmas at Michael's I think!

A lady on another forum was able to find out the name of the painting and artist..she loved the animals in the pic on the plate..

Next week I will do my flake off...anyone else still doing one?

I know I saw those that have done it, how about Judith, I know she was planning one??

Oh Kathleen, it's lovely. I was just reading your post about your New Year's Eve dinner party being postponed due to bad weather. We had a similar situation here (MA), but fortunately instead of dinner, it was just appetizers and wine that had to be postponed.

We too, had shrimp tonight that was supposed to have been part of our New Years Eve celebration. We also popped some champagne and celebrated the New Year with our daughters.

Sometimes the weather just doesn't cooperate.......hey, when life hands you lemons, you make lemonade! Happy New year!

Hi ya Christie!!! Long time no talk! I grew Joe Pye Weed for the first time this year, though I have been photographing it at the botanical gardens for years. I seen 'Little Joey' this year, and it was every bit of 5 foot tall. Made me wonder just how tall mine are supposed to get! I planted several of mine (indoor started from seed) and pinched them a couple times throughout the season, and they ae only about 3 foot tall,maybe less and are smothered with blooms and butterflies! I also planted in part sun, which makes a considerable difference compared to ones in full sun. Since it was a perennial I didnt do too much homework on, I didnt expect it to bloom the first year, so I just kept pinching it. Low and behold, it is blooming profusely! One thing I am curious of, some of the blooms are white, some are purple. And I dont mean the different stages of bloom some are loaded with almost spent blooms, and they are snow white. Wasnt expecting this! I say, pinch yours throughout the season, maybe plant in part sun to keep them shorter. I'll take a pic if I get a minute. Take care Christie!

We have a holiday party every year and in the past, it has been earlier in Dec., but this year it's not until the 12th, which is good because our house is a disaster outside, in the midst of a re-siding project! Usually I do like to put up the outside lights and garland the first weekend of Dec., but that will have to wait until probably the 12th... siding job is supposed to be done by then! Today I had to do something so I bought a wreath and a mantel garland from a nursery. This weekend we'll unpack our new fake tree and decorate it. I would love to have a real one but DS2 is allergic. Every year I seem to eliminate a few decorations because I just get tired of them, but I never get tired of my Santa collection. I have about 20 or so different Santas -- some are figurines, some are made out of wood, one is stuffed, etc. Every year I do something different with them. One year I stuffed them all on the mantel. This year they're all going on the shelves in my kitchen. I find that I appreciate them more when they're all together rather than scattered around the house. Lavender, this will make you feel better. I have a collection of plastic Rudolph toys that I display as if they're fancy decorations. I figure Christmas is my excuse to be as tacky as I want to be!

Oh, I am so glad you all liked it. When I decided to participate in the swap, I typed in Opossum Christmas card into google and this is the first one that I looked at, and I knew right then that was the one I wanted. The card was made by Charlotte Terhune. She goes by "Semi-serious Artist." She is a possum lover, of course, a possum rehabber, and 30% of the proceeds goes to the National Opossum Society. I really enjoyed corresponding back and forth with her.

Hey, where is everyone's buds and blooms?? Kikithor - The labels at stores can be very frustrating, it's to do with marketing. The TC's bloom earlier, can be enjoyed early Fall, Thanksgiving through Christmas and have many flower color choices. I see you're from Canada, ask friends and family if they have a true CC, also keep an eye out at places like churches, nursing homes, libraries, botanical gardens and such to ask for cuttings. Thanks, Bonnie...and yes, as long as everyone is healthy, it doesn't matter..There will be other times..(after I rest up..:) )
And tonight we had the other half of the canceled dinner, filet mignon...and I enjoyed it! LOL...

Kathleen, do you know what that Santa plate goes for on eBay? LOL. I wanted one, for my plate collection. But ones from that series were a bit too pricey for me. I thought these were meant just for decorative plates!
Boy I envy you finding that at your Michaels, I never see anything close at mine.
I want to find the one you have, and really want one of SAnta on a white horse. Its the 1994 "Santa of the Northern Forest" by Lynn Bywaters. These collector plates are from Lenox the "Magic of Christmas Plate Collection".

Hooooooo, Kathleen! I LOVE your napkins! Their color is beautiful and makes your table outstanding!
Also remembers me of the time when scottish looking stuff was a "must"!

Also, your pasta & shrimp are very appetizing and suddenly, I no longer want to eat the steak sauce Archiduke I expected... but well shrimp, will have a look at the freezer; maybe it's not too late to switch!

Karen, I knew you would like those...It said dishwasher and microwave safe on the back...I was surprised too. I have washed them 2x in the dishwasher and they are fine!
I will be on the look out for them...I think I paid 2.00!

Oh, I love those Santa plates too. How neat with the animals on them. You found a good bargain. Those little santas look so cute too. Yummy looking food as always. The spinach and cheese casserole sounds so good too. Luvs

Kathleen, the Santa on horse plate I want is going for $60 usually. And most of that series by Lynn Bywaters goes from $40 to $60. EACH! I didn't see yours on eBay at this time to check it tho.

Oh, meant to say I really like the little red ruffled edge plate in the one pix.

Kathleen, your black and red table looks very striking, love those colours together. And your Santa plates are terrific, very unique.

I am glad you said Christmas is not over yet! We, too celebrate until Epiphany tomorrow (and actually a couple weeks longer - just love this season!)

Karen, I am sure mine are inexpensive imitations of the ones you like...but the face on Santa I love..

I discovered them in a bag of after Cmas goodies, I think from 2 yrs ago. That's why I must get all this stuff, I mean treasures, :) organized...

The little ruffled plate is from Home Goods clearance...it's the only one they had! So it looked so lonely I had to bring it home!

I am glad I am not alone , I can't imagine taking down the decos the day after Cmas unless you must.
It's the 12 days of Christmas!!:)
I just finished my 3 Kings Day table for Tues...following yonder star, bringing gifts..:)
I will post it Tues..

Those dishes are so lovely kathleen. I just love the old fashioned Santas, and that pattern is especially nice.
I feel your tables are always such a treat to sit down to. They please the eye and the palette...Any doggie bags???
