Thanksgiving Cactus, waiting for buds, Any of yours have buds yet
Comments (6)Mine started budding early last week. They bloom every year for me: summers outdoors on a balcony with filtered Western sun, fertilizer and leaving outside until almost first frost. Once the buds fatten up a little bit, I bring indoors. I don't wait until they are fully formed b/c I don't want to risk them blasting from the temp. change. So, I try to bring them in when the temps. both outside and in are the closet(usually during the daylight hours) to reduce shock. Can't wait to post pics when they bloom! Comments (7)Hello Linda, best to start a thread of your own if you want good replies as this thread is over 6 yrs old! Ppl don't always bother to reply to such old threads. Also, we need to know exactly what you are referring to as bulbs don't grow into flowers! Do you means buds I guess so! Take a pic and upload it so we can see your plant, it helps. Also go tour your profile and add some of your location info like we try to do, that's always useful. You don't say if it is a Christmas cactus, I'm guessing not as they aren't often seen, they get mistaken for other types of holiday cactus, plus it's the wrong time of year for a CC to be flowering! We will look out for your new thread.............See Morebuying true christmas cactus
Comments (24)Hi, melissd. Well, if you have a question, this isn't how to go about it; you would need to start a new thread and write clearly and considerately, explaining what happened. People probably won't answer you much here because that would be hijacking someone else's (the person who originally posted this) thread. But this isn't a trade forum, so we aren't supposed to ask for trades here, either. But someone might e-mail you if he/she will have clippings available in the spring. I'm sorry to hear your roof leaked. If there are any healthy-looking parts of the affected plants, cut those pieces and hope they might root in dry soil and with spritzes of water every so often. And I mean, anything remotely decent-looking or that hasn't turned to mush, because in the past I have had over-watered Thanksgiving cacti with withered-looking leaves survive in the form of cuttings-- I know truly healthy cuttings are best, but I've had a few miracles and withered pieces have rooted for me. It doesn't hurt to try; if they're not mushy, try some cuttings. I'd maybe also check the roots of the plants to see what's happening there, and if there are any healthy roots, let the plants dry out (unpotted) for a few days and cut off any mushy growth. If it's totally a soggy mess, I'm afraid it's a loss. This post was edited by teatree on Tue, Feb 5, 13 at 3:32...See MoreIs this a TRUE Christmas Cactus (schlumbergera x buckleyi)
Comments (60)ALEXBYRNE44.... IF you see this, that is the 'Christmas cactus I am searching for SO badly. Can you tell me where you got it? I know its a year ago, Maybe it is a store that is in Ft.laud, where I am,and i can look to see if they still sell it, this year. OR do you or someone else have any cuttings of it Schlumbergera X Buckleyi that is the one. I have a post on the Cactus forum looking for cuttings of this cactus, Mine was well over 150yo, and it died it went through so many generations, and Fla. heat must have been to much for it, after being in Conn. all its life. It died slowly over decades, then I got cuttings/segments of it from some other lucky owners of it, 4-5 years ago, but they have died on me this past summer, after Hurricane Irma came through. It finally gave up 2 weeks ago:( Just in time for X-Mas. The extra hot summer we had must have been to much for it, then the hurricane took the rest of its 'strength I guess. If you or someone sees this, maybe you can help me out???...See More- 8 years ago
