You've made all your decisions for fixtures, flooring, colors etc?

First thing that comes to my mind, is Zoloft and a visit now and then to Margarettaville.

But aside from that, I keep telling myself that this is a small amount of time in the whole scheme of things.

But for most of it, this has been my full time job and we are GCing of sorts, so I have had to research and make every decision. So that has kept my mind plenty occupied.

And now that all the shopping is done, except my cabinet pulls which I have those narrowed down, just have to make the order, but now that I dont have anything else left to pick out, I have been spending my days at the house scraping drywall off the floors, sweeping, hauling out boxes and trash, and making decision on things like this light should hang this high, this one dims, etc. So by the end of the day, I am too tired to think about anything else.

Oh and I keep telling myself, just two more weeks. Have been doing this for about a month now :-P

I mostly use the time to second guess myself and constantly change my mind! I also use some of the time to worry that the house is going to look horrible or that something is going to go wrong. Another thing we did was to have our son join a traveling hockey team so that we are so occupied with that, that we don't have time to think. We also had a baby during the build, and I learned to sew so that I can sew some of my own curtains. Can you tell that I'm getting a little loopy and antsy? :) Good luck and hang in there!

gobruno! i decided i would change my mind on the (not very inexpensive) sofas i was about to order ...when i was on the phone with the salesperson! there i was, notes in hand looking at my fabric and layout and WHAM! all of a sudden i heard myself say, "let me call you back!" and i was back online looking at more sofas. and then i did it again ...changed my mind on the banquettes for the breakfast room AND THEN i moved on to my BED! it's a really good thing those are the only pieces i'm getting right now otherwise i'd be nowhere. i'm sure i am settled on the furniture for now and will order NEXT WEEK. ...i think.

and i was just thinking this past week i should learn to sew! i'm not convinced i'll be good enough to want to sew my own curtains (always had them made and professionally hung) but then i tell myself "i'm not stupid. surely i can operate a little machine with a foot petal" ...but i have no patience which could impede my ability to take my time and do a good job. at least this was my experience when i had "home ec" in the seventh grade. we made gingham book bags and embroidered our initials on them. THAT is the extent of my experience with a sewing machine. old dog, new tricks? i dunno...

You guys crack me up...this is what I'm talking about! I literally need to talk myself down "off the ledge" half the day. As I am listening to my mom tell me how I might regret my lighting choice, I try and keep my patience, but inside I am so prone to second-guessing myself, I start taking her advice. If I don't move in soon I may lose my mind.

I want to be all Zen and calm but am totally insane and crazed. Not only am I impatient and exhausted most days but my ability to trust my inner compass has disintegrated--I used to be really good at decision-making!

My SIL said that she felt better once she totally "gave in" and stopped caring--at some point her Type A personality became so exhausted by researching and analyzing to the nth degree that her brain shut down and starting making decisions really quickly, based solely on her first reaction. She said it made the project so much quicker!

Kate: Are you really ordering sofas? I want to but am totally scared that I need to see the whole living room before I make those choices. Sometimes the sales tempt me but I can't pull the trigger!

One day at a time, as they say......

Patience, motivation...ha! I think those are the last words to describe waiting for a new house to be finished. Sometimes I am chomping at the bit for the builder to finish whatever it is he is working on. But, I'm also worried sick while I am waiting thinking I may have messed up and won't like the way things look once the builder does get that part done. Or after months of knowing what I want, right when there is a final decision to be made nothing I thought I loved looks right. I want to escape from all of it and clear my mind, but usually somebody is asking me to decide something now.

All of my life, I've wanted to do this. I never realized it would be so hard.

Every morning I wake up and want to pull the covers over my head. I have planned the kitchen in the build for two years, looked at pictures of home and ideas for just as long and when the day comes and I have to commit to ANYTHING! I literally want to scream in fear. I remember reading a woman right here on Gardenweb who said at one point she just took all of the pictures she had accumulated and handed them to her contractor and said "you decide". She just couldn't take making all those decisions anymore. Should I have the colors fllloooowww in all the rooms or can I have different colors. After two years of loving cherry cabinets my mother says she really likes the cream cabinets and I think "Hmm, maybe I should go with cream cabinets". I have every feeling all of you have described. Some days when there is no one working on the house or on the weekends I'm so happy because I don't have to make a decision but then I want it all to be OVER! I want my life back wahhhhhh

I so enjoy reading these posts bc they make me feel like I'm not completely nuts! I'm usually so decisive, and like previous posters, I have thought about this house for practically a lifetime and have had decisions "made" forever, but when it comes to committing, I just balk. I'm sure that our builder thinks I'm nuts. I have literally changed my mind on the all over interior paint color for our house 5 times! I've bought so many samples and still I can't make a decision. I've loved this house forever, and then when I walk through it, sometimes I do a gut check and wonder, did I get that part wrong. Is the closet too small? Should I have planned this or that differently?

Kate, funny you should mention sofas. We just bought 2 the other day. We walked into the store, and since we had all 4 of our kids with us, we were forced to make quick decisions. I wonder if I should have our kids around when we have to make other decisions. It still didn't help the second guessing....

Another impatient person here who is frozen with indecision. I have made and changed my mind so many times it is frightening! Sometimes, I look back at bookmarks and literally have NO idea what "inspiration" I was saving it for and forget about paint colors! At this point, I think I have every BM sample ever made and a stack of lighting books taller than my 2 year old- UGH!

I keep hoping that when the day comes that the builder needs a "final" decision on something, divine intervention will take over. Either that or a good old game of eeny- meeny miney moe- LOL!

Kate- we just bought a sectional/chair this weekend too! So far, I have ordered a "big girl" bed for my little one (fyi, I was pregnant with her when we started this build) and a bedroom set for my son. I figure if all else fails, everyone will have a place to sleep and a couch to watch TV on. Next up is a kitchen table....

yes! i'm really ordering sofas ...this week! i'm sure of the style now. i've been away since sunday but i will go and walk around the living room one more time before calling the salesperson. it should look a LOT different since they just finished insulation and are moving on to closing up the walls!
i used all our holiday wrapping paper up, cutting out two giant rectangles the size of the sofas so i could place them on the floor inside the room. i also have a few professional interior designer friends helping me out with dimensions so i know i'll be fine. i also had a delivery of an antique subway roll sign which will go to the framers tomorrow. just in time for me to have the electrician wire for a wall mounted picture light.

so, i guess i'd say i handle it all by keeping REALLY good notes. i've gone through three notebooks already ...reminder to self: buy more notebooks.

I may have gone over the edge...just purchased a HUGE painting for the breakfast room over the buffet and now the sconces ALREADY need to be moved. I guess it's better that they are moved now rather than after the house and walls are finished.

My master bathroom may have way too many elements and this is killing me because it was almost the very first thing I picked out. I wanted the wallstone that looks like stacked stone so that was a decision made before we even started demo....now it seems that it might have been a bad choice. Tomorrow after the whole bathroom is cleaned up, we will see if it's too busy.

Every day that a "final" decision needs to be made, I hold my breath.

We are about 2-3 weeks out from moving in. We've been our own GC and started the build back in October. My in-laws have been amazingly helpful. They've been coming up every weekend and "camping" in the house for the last month and a half. I am so grateful for their help. But, I'm so ready for the house to be ours and not 'ours'. I've learned that thirty-five year olds should not live with their parents. :-)

Just the stress of being in house building mode is really wearing on my husband and I. I've recently started suffering from migranes. And, we both just so mentally drained. I know I should be seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, but all I see are all the small unfinished things that need to be done.

And, now I feel guilty for venting. I don't want to sound unappreciative. The house is beautiful...way more than I had imagined. I guess I just want to hurry up and be finished so I can sit on our couch alone with my husband and just RELAX. Lol
