My Wife's Beaded Ornament

Hello Everyone! I don't usually post on the Hoilday forum as I'm over at GardenJunk, but I check here once in awhile to see your BEAUTIFUL creations and ideas. (Karen is a close, family friend so I always have to check to see what she is up to!)

Anyway, I wanted to share my wonderful wife's latest hobby. She is sooooo creative. She has been making these beautiful, beaded ornaments. She does the beadwork and paints the ornament to compliment the beads. I think they look so elegant and Victorian. Just bragging about my wife, and saying THANK YOU for all of your CREATIVE, INSPIRING ideas!

What a lovely beaded ornament your wife made.
I would love to know more on how she goes about it.
You said she does the bead work then paints the ornament to match...
I'm curious as to how she fits the bead work to the ornament and what type of paint she uses.
It's really lovely, and TFS.

That is so beautiful, Kirk. Carol is always coming up with the neatest ideas. Talented lady! You have every right to brag about her and I'm glad you shared her ornament here. Tell her she has LOTS of time to fill up your tree for next year...and some extra. LOL.

you arent in the business of fruit production.. so i wouldnt worry all that much about it ... some years you get great flower shows.. other years.. the weather doesnt cooperate ... mother nature is a cruel mistress ... you either try to fight her.. and you will lose ... or you take a more zen approach to what she provides ... and give her free rein ... i gave up along time ago .. worrying about her.. and we now have a more symbiotic relation ship ... she messes everything up.. and i repair it later. .. lol ... sometimes she even kill plants.. go figure on that ... whatever pleases you if just fine with me .... if you need the exercise.. go for it ... ken

This (picture in the link) isn't an ornament, but this is a shadow box I made. The triangle piece is a piece of my mom's wedding dress with her wedding dress beads glued on. Thought maybe it would give you an idea for something else. Could you maybe run a thin wire through the beads or chains and swirl them around clear ornaments? Or put your mom's picture in an ornament or clear little frame and glue the beads all around it. I don't know if you have sisters, but I made my sisters bracelets and earrings out of wedding dress beads. Maybe you could re-do the beads into something like that. I try to make something each year as a little remembrance. I don't know if you already did this, but maybe post this on the craft forum too. I have what your looking for dear. I make these every year, an no craftylady, they are not styrofoam balls, they are very elegant beaded glass ornaements. I make mine with swarvski crystals just dripping off of them. Even my hot air balloons drip in onyx and crystals, or amythist, or jade,,,I have a blast making these, an would be willing to scan a few of my books for you. You can find alot of patterns online, but alot are just dreary looking. I have found them cheaply at around 5.00 a pattern. Thanks, ladies. Yes, it's a lot of fun and it seems like the ladies are really outdoing themselves every year. I do have an idea for next years ornie, in fact I have almost everything I need to make them. I saw on FlickR some ornaments that look like those candied fruit slices, you know the ones you see in the nice candy stores, they look like a slice of orange, or lemon, lime, etc. They make them in citrus colors and red.... well, these were felt, 2 colors in each one, like dark green/lime green or dark yellow/bright yellow, etc, and covered with "sugar", which was a square crystal glitter. Simple, but VERY CUTE. I was thinking of making a set of 3 for each lady. I bought all the stuff to make them in case my ships didn't turn out. So I'll be making those, and I won't wait until early December, either! lol bRAT Kat- those are his little mittened hands you're seeing, ya perv! lol It's not a good photo, I realize that. He is absolutely the most charming, old-fashioned little guy, we all flipped over him. The 2 girls on either side of me, their guys had glittery felt shoes- mine has plain. I told them their little guys were gay. lolol And their little scarves are so cute, a tiny button holds it in place. He is perfection. I recommend these kinds of parties to everyone. What a great way to get together, have lots of fun and good food and be creative AND get a huge assortment of ornies. Oh. I don't do a tree anymore, I'm sad to say. Too many cheesy cats in this house that would tear it up. I keep some of the ornaments and share some with friends. I have a lovely assortment in boxes! lol Thanks, WC, about the cat. I hope to hear from the vet this morning that I can pick him up. Fingers crossed!

Hi Kirk!! Beautiful ornament!! I've never seen the long twisted type of bead before. I do beading all the time. Did Carol order them online? It looks like it might just slip off from the top, is that so? Anyway I love it! TFS Jan

So nice to see you here Kirk. And what a pretty ornament you've shared with us! I've admired those beaded covers for ornaments many times, but they sure look complicated to me! Carol did a beautiful job on this one, she is very talented. I love the Victorian feel of it, and what a great way to beautify plain ornaments! Thanks for sharing and please come join in here anytime--I'll bet you and Carol have some nice decorative items to share with us.

Wow! Karen (aka purplemoon) was so right when she told me the people on the Holidays forum are so encouraging! Sorry I haven't posted back sooner...our computer blew up (smoking and everything! Old computer!) so we are awaiting our new computer, and I am posting this at the library!

Carol used a pattern from the bead store called The Birthday Ornament. It looks like a doilie when finished and drapes over the top of the ornament. She uses clear ornaments and puts a glitter paint inside and shakes it up. My wife is so creative! I love bragging about her!!!! I'll attach a link of a few other things she has created. She's a quilter too. (Check out her quilted, raggy Christmas skirt!)

Carol is certainly very talented, Kirk, all her creations are great but I really love her wall hangings! Those are so neat. I like those cement leaves too--always thought those would be fun to have in the garden. I would say that one of her very best "creations" is that darling little fella sitting there! ;o) TFS Luvs
