SA Thrift Store Find of Pastel China

I have a complete service for 12 of china that I got when we married 36 years ago, but I have always wanted something lighter and more pastel. I found this recently at the SA Thrift Store. It is a complete service for 8 including the platter, vegetable bowl, s&p shakers, and sugar and creamer. I got it all for $35!

Wow, what beautiful china you found and what a fantastic deal on it too! So, when are we going to see a tablesetting with it?

That is just beautiful. What a wonderful price. I bought my good china before I was married. It's not what I would pick today, plus with a platinum band, it can't go in the dishwasher. I'll never replace it, because it was too expensive, but if I found dishes I loved for that kind of price, I'd stash it away and be so happy. - Gail

Someone must be getting rid of their teapot collection. I went last Sat. to the local thrift store and scored 2 more teapots. I love the design. I also wanted to let those of you who have a Dollar Tree in your area know that they have these beautiful colored plates in the store, all for $1.00 each. They would be great to use in totems. I think the bright yellow matches the sun teapot perfectly.

I was at TS yesterday & didn't see a single colored glass plate! Did get an adorable antique-looking wooden pelican 16 in. tall of wood on a weathered post with "old" rope & netting & a soda bottle cap painted tan with rounded tack through center of it holding the rope in place. Great gift for DS & wife! Keep looking but probably better luck at yard sales. I think some people make deals with TS owners so pay more for glass or dolls that have good resale value in antique shops as it saves the antique owner time as they don't have to go to sales,1 stop shopping & the TS owner gets more than they could get from us bargain shoppers. I know after 1st few months new TS opens all the colored glassware & dolls disappear, so you know that is when the antique owners "found" the store! I've seen them checking out dolls & said oh, nice dolls & was told they weren't for sale(to me) as I saw the woman looking take several in a bag & those left were put out for $12-15. And I wouldn't pay that. Go early in day this summer & you should have good luck at yard sales. Jan

haha! I knew that rooster compote would be popular! :) I'm such a sucker for glass. If only I could convince my family to shop at thrift stores when looking for presents for me... :O) I guess the grape dish does scream to have grapes/fruit served in it, but fancy/delicate cookies, like my Russian Teacakes, would be perfect! It has an unusually shallow bowl shape, so I wondered if it was intended for a specific purpose that I was not aware of. Thanks for the replies and encouragement to buy even more! LOL! SA-Ltd is such guilt-free shopping. :o)

I was just opening a bunch of bags of stuff I bought at a thrift store half price sale just before my car broke down and went to the shop for two months. It's like christmas again LOL (Car came back today). I'm having a ball and also wondering what kind of crack I was smoking that day (do any of you need two dozen depression glass cordials? heh heh) Anyhoo, those will go on the shelf and I'll now invest in cordial stuff.... But a couple things made me smile...two fou dogs...I don't know if they're worth what I paid for them (high for a thrift store, low for an art gallary IMO) but their worth does not matter...the dogs are wonderful. I hate asian crap...and yet keep buying fou dogs...what's up with that? I'm starting to name them LOL I also bought a dandy guy in ceramic something...looks like a 16th century cross dresser. He is on my desk now...he makes me grin :) I need some cordial stuff I think...LOL They were sold as "wines" by the way....and I can report with great accuracy that they don't hold enough wine to make it worth your while to wash them LOL BTW I almost bought a gurgling pitcher many years ago and always regretted it. It was kind of pricy and I didn't know the back story so I walked away and when I pulled up this thread and saw your picture it came right back to mine. It was a pastel yellow...devine in a very goofy way :) I never heard it gurgle but I still miss that pitcher that got away!!! Wonderful find!!!

That is sure a pretty pattern on your new china. Fantastic buy, not often that you can find a complete set. I know you are really going to enjoy it. Ncnana, I feel the same way--tastes have changed over the years, probably would pick something different now. Only problem with a complete set is that we almost never use the cups and saucers, yet they take up so much space to store.

Printer, what pretty new china and what a deal! I love the pastel colours on it and can see it looking especially nice on an Easter table. I, too am not crazy about my "wedding" china and hardly ever use it. Not sure what I was thinking when I picked that out so many years ago!

I have a really pretty pastel flower border set with a platinum band that I never use also - just not my style. I really should get it out and use it now and then.

Printer that is a very pretty set - alot like mine and that was a great price. Maybe if you show some place settings it will inspire me to use mine more :) ......

What a find! It's lovely and will be quite versatile with the soft pale colors. It reminds me of my wedding china (Noritake Blue Hill), which I still love as much as the day I chose it.

Very pretty and what a great price!! I've been hitting the consignment and antique shops lately myself looking for dishes, but have not come across a bargain like that! How fun! Don't forget to show us pics when you've set your table with them.
