Hello Cleo, I did some searches of the online SSE Yearbook, by the last names of presidents and here is what I found. (So this does not include any hybrids.) There is a George Washington tomato, and there are a couple of tomatoes with Taylor in the name, but no indication that they were named after Zachary Taylor the 12th president. I found a Pierce's Pride, named after Larry Pierce who stabilized a selected cross, not Franklin Pierce (14th). There is a Lambert's General Grant the appears it might be named after Ulysses S Grant since he was a general during the cival war. I found a listing for a Cleveland Orange Plum, but who knows if it is related to Grover Cleveland in any way, I don't. There is a Mckinley tomato. I have no idea if the Alice Roosevelt tomato was named after the first wife of the Lt Colonel of the Rough Riders, but I suspect it was. There are several tomatoes with Johnson in the name, but no apparent connection to either of our presidents Johnson (nor are the varieties with bush in the name connected to the Presidents Bush.) Same goes with Ford. There is a Carter and a Carter's Fruit, but named after James Carter? Don't expect that it is. So there you have it, George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Ulysses S. Grant and the wife of a president have tomatoes named after them. Bets Here is a link that might be useful: SSE Yearbook Online tomato listings

Sue and I had returned that summer from our mission work in (South) Korea, substantially helping refugees get resettled following the Korean "Police Action" ... and there's still been no peace, 60 years later. Our son was about 20 months, with rather light, fine hair, and the shop girls in Tokyo were entranced by him. We'd settled in our mission-owned apt. in Toronto and Sue and son had gone to Iowa to visit her family from Sept. till Nov., then I travelled to many cities, towns and villages in Saskatchewan, talking to church groups, schools, service clubs, etc. telling of what had been going on out there. During that fall I'd married my brother ... and in early October spent Thanksgiving with them to celebrate their 50th anniversary. Just after mid November, I'd done some business in Regina and, in the first snowfall of the year, started out for Iowa to prick up Sue and Bruce. At around supper time, when I stopped at a convenience store in a village, their TV was on, telling of meetings of important U.S. government agencies holding emergency meetings, etc. and I asked what was going on ... when they told me that President Kennedy had been shot and killed ... I reacted with disbelief. I don't recall any unusual experiences while dealing with people on the trip down to Iowa, but was at Sue's Mom's home in Ankeny to view the funeral with them. It was a time of great sadness. One year after the day of President Kennedy's death ... our daughter was born, in Muskoka, a vacation area north of Toronto where I was working temporarily as clergyperson in several churches, while son was being treated for complications with his sight. We need people of vision to challenge us to great things, in our time: the world's need is massive. ole joyful
