Need help identifying candlestick
Comments (5)It's a brass candlestick for a large pillar candle. You say you think it may be 40 years old? That would put it about 1972? I think that is right on. About that time, large candle holders were popular. It was "the thing" to stand one on the hearth or on a low coffee table. You jammed a pillar candle down onto the spike...or for some that didn't have a spike, you just set a pillar candle on top. There is also the possibility that it is one of a pair of candlesticks meant to go on the altar or a church. About 1972 I bought at auction a pair of tall brass candle sticks with a convertible top, that could hold either a pillar or a taper. Are they lacquered or did you polish them? Comments (35)Is there a paint that can be used that doesn't have to be sprayed on and could be actually painted? I have three brass "buttons" on a window treatment. (kind of hard to explain) I really can't figure out how to actually take them down, so I'd like to tape around them and then use paint with a brush to change them. Is there any kind of paint that would come in a bottle?...See MoreI still like brass--there I said it!
Comments (19)I'm quite certain that some family members were mortified when I hung a brass chandelier in the dining room. And to add insult to injury, I've added a whole slew of brass accessories to that room. There's another room in the house that's turning all brassy, as well. I've started noticing more and more brass colored finishes in lighting, frames, accessories, hardware, etc., but they've renamed it "aged gold" "antique gold" or some other similar thing...anything except calling it that "B" word. I think many people's only exposure to brass was the faux antique brass of the '70's, followed by the tinny extra-shiny plated brass of the '80's. I know mine was, and when I had enough adventures that I had seen actual solid brass in all it's various stages of patina, well, there's just nothing else like it. I passed up an old brass candlestick lamp at the thrift the other day (I already have too many lamps) but now I wish I had bought it....See MoreDanze Opulence.. Polished brass or antique copper?
Comments (18)jennsbabysky - I have had to return the old faucets to them in additional to sending in photos. They did agree to pay for the shipping after I pressed the point and spoke with someone in the corporate office in Canada. It has taken me many hours on the phone and many emails to try to resolve this issue. They did and do offer replacement parts pretty easily, but honestly after the failure of the shower valve and tub valves which caused us to tear out a huge fully tiled custom shower and tiled tub deck, I do not want to chance putting this brand back into my home, so I asked for a refund instead. I had my original receipts. After many calls it appears at this point that they will refund part of the fixtures that are not involved in an insurance claim due to the amount of damage that our shower and wood floors sustained. I will say that they have been very professional on the phone during every single call. But their process is very slow and I asked right up front when I filed the claim initially if they needed the faucets returned as stated on their website and was told repeatedly, no by all of the representatives. So three weeks later I can say that some of the communication between departments seems to be lacking. We are not talking about a lot of money relative to the amount of time and effort it has taken to resolve the matter. Their ability to balance the monetary value of a potential lifetime customer verses the bottom line, in my opinion, is not balanced. Perhaps a change in policy so that under a certain amount the customer is offered an opportunity to receive either parts or refund, might enable their customer service department to execute these claims more quickly. But that's just my opinion....See MoreIdeefixe
