We have trim- a good day- and GO BUCKS!!!

We had a very productive day! The tile people were out- I am learning it's so important to have some of these suppliers out to the house. They just such a better feel for what we are doing that way. It would have taken us hours and hours to pick out the tile and finalize the patterns etc in the store. The designer and the owner came out and it was very productive. We are bricking the tile in our clutter room and "45ing" it in the master bath. ( I feel like I am down with the lingo now! LOL)

We also had the guy from the lumber company that is building our stair parts out. We have ELEVEN newell posts so it was also a job that was musch easier with the supplier witnessing our space. We are going with 2 raised panel 6" square newels and the rest are going to be a little more plan and 4' square. Those puppies are not cheap. I am really excited about our stairs.

In between the supplier visits the GC started putting up trim..... he's a carpenter by trade so this is where he shines and it is looking really good. I think he did 4 windows and a door in about 2 hours!

So - I was up all night last night working, up all day in the house...... .and back at work tonight. My partner is in the Big Easy........ you can guess why.......

I am holding down the fort.... and of course Hanging with Sloopy!!!

GOOO BUCKS!!

I can feel your excitement in your post!! I loved watching the trim go up :-) I can only imagine how tired you are!!! Can't wait to see pictures!!!

Go Tigers!!! It's insane down here in N.O. I wouldn't be caught downtown right now for all the money in the world!! Hope the visitors have a good time while they are here. They sure looked like they were from the news reports I saw this afternoon. I tell you people just go nuts over that football stuff. Me, I just enjoy watching them enjoy themselves!!

I will look again but I don't see any indication of a torn out tag anywhere in the interior. I'm sure it's a knockoff but it's well built and the leather is good quality. I saddle soaped it last night and it buffed up nicely. A night with a dryer sheet inside took away the ashtray smell. I LOVE good leather purses. The DB Equestrian purses are wonderful! I think I'll start saving for one now. Leather NEVER wears out. And if something gets torn, etc any saddle maker can sew it up. Lori

Breezy - well, we're picking what we can, we've still got a lot of details to work out - our GC is also the cabinet maker...so, we know that we want cherry, Shaker style, dark stain, but the actual stain for the cabinetry is dependent upon the color that we do on our red oak hardwood when it's refinished and we are holding on our hardwood guy to get us colors until we know our start date with the GC. So, while waiting for all this, I went to HD and picked up some of their floor sample swatches and we came up with a color that we want to emulate for our floor and have been using it as our "close-enough" color. We're working out our pulls - I know that we want pulls and not knobs, and I know that we want a transitional/contemporary look to those, so I don't have an exact pull, but we're close. Paint, not under control AT ALL right now. And I'm amazingly relaxed about not knowing that. haha I don't expect to have that decided until the cabinets, granite, and lighting are in place. We're going neutral and lighter. Quite possibly a blue undertone, but not necessarily actually blue. Color in a room changes so much when you have everything in place and our room is changing significantly from what it is currently because we're tearing out a wall and removing a window - light is going to play quite differently once all that happens. So, I have a pile of swatches that I've put next to our bits & pieces of stuff and eliminated a lot and we have a few that we'll wind up getting samples of when it comes time to paint. We've got our faucet, we've got our GD, but I have to purchase the air switch. I need to work out details on plugmold - don't know if I should spring for the angled plugmold from Task or just go with the HD stuff. And, oddly enough, even though I'm a photographer, kitchen lighting is just baffling me. I guess it's that I'm used to seeing light and modifying light - I guess it's really the electrical aspect of it that's confusing to me. marti8a - thanks for the vote of confidence. We're happy about having so many of these decisions made...but now I just want to know when we can get started! Ginny - Thank you! I haven't forgotten about you, I promise. I owe you an email. I've been doing a ton of looking and deciding about stuff. It can be seriously all-consuming - if only I didn't have work work to do also this would be so much easier! Sometimes I wish that I were one of those people who just said, "KD, please create a new kitchen for me." BTW, I'm so glad that you're hanging out here even though your kitchen is done. :)

I am so, SO thankful, so blessed that I had all of you to turn to. I just re-read all the replies again and I'm smiling from ear to ear (and to be perfectly honest...my eyes got a bit teary) and I am about to start RE-decorating the tree....for the second time; thanks to all of you. To read some of your stories....terribly sad yes....those memories. But then I read how someday I can look back at this and laugh and I'm hoping all of you who've had the fallen tree mishap are able to do that also. To all of you: If any of you ever need a shoulder, or need to vent, I'll be here for you just as you were for me-I sincerely mean that. Just holler! (or, at least email through GW and I'll be there for ya...any of ya!) My Dad is doing much better....thank you so much for asking. It was sure scary the night I called 911. The fact that he is diabetic didn't help matters. E.R. Dx'd as severe food poisoning but because his sugar was through the roof and white count was so high they decided to keep him. On day three they were still insisting it was food poisoning. Took matters into my own hands and got a second opinion. Five tests later...... Severely Gangrene Gall Bladder, infection throughout bloodstream, etc. etc. Emergency surgery at 9 that night. Today, Dad is going to the bathroom without me helping him get up and walk there and without me standing outside the bathroom door waiting for him to finish. Thus....I'm redecorating my tree today! LOL My son? My voice of reason and comic relief. I will be showing him this printed thread. Thank you all so much. As for mice, rats and Sterilite....here's some pics I took really early this morning. This is one of the last two Sterilite tubs that we didn't get broken down in time for the curb/trash pick-up. Until now I thought those cute little round mouse holes in cartoons were just that....round mouse holes in cartoons. Nope, those critters really DO make almost perfect holes to get at what they want! And yes, thank you for that tip.....I just finished printing out this topic, all the replies. I want to put it with the pics I took of the mouse holes....so I can hopefully laugh about it some day. If you are squeemish about 'rat and mice stuff', don't scroll down to the pics below.....stop right here *smile* But I did put pieces of bubble wrap behind the holes to keep you from seeing the 'stuff' inside. For our new build, the KD measured for cabinets before the drywall went in. She measured stud to stud and then just allowed for the 1/2 inch of drywall where necessary. Perfect fit. Of course, they didn't template for the counter until after the cabinets were installed. In a remodel It might be wise to wait for walls cause ya never know what might come up.

Ponydoc; Feeling your pain this morning!!! Do you live in OH or are you transplanted somewhere? We live in the Columbus area and the only good thing I can say is the sun still came up this morning!!!! Great news about your build!!

Comfortdog.... we are Buckeye born and bred... still live here.... lived in Columbus for 4 years while attending professional school at OSU- so I am an alum. We moved to the area of the state we are now in so DH could take a job on Tressels' staff at his last gig. DH enjoyed his "college time" but we did not want to move around the way that is necessary to pursue a "big time" coaching career. His mentor ( the current MSU coach) has moved 7 times in the last 15 years. Sometimes I feel like I have held him back.... I am not the moving kind...... esp when "everyone" was reassembled at OSU but on days like today - after a disappointing loss, I am glad I can just resume my normal life and my livlihood is not wrapped up in losing a football game. My DH is a high school head coach and we get all the football coaching drama we need from that!

Still disappointed in my Buckeyes but can't complain. We have a great team, a great coach, great fans and The Best Damn Band in The Land!!

ponydoc and comfort, the Buckeye's are a fabulous team and unfortunately with football there is always a loser. I was glad to see the fans on the news report this morning, smiling in spite of the loss and saying they had a good time. One commented that the LSU fans are intense, but polite. Now if only our Saints could play like our Tigers we'd be in great shape!!

I'm assuming you are referring to Mark Dantonio? He is a great guy. I have had the chance to get to meet other coaches and their wives/families living here in the area. I would never be able to do the moving thing either. Some of us just like to be planted a little deeper. Maybe that is why I like building houses!! It gives me a reason to stay in the area and do something I love to do!

Yes comfortdog, still in the same area although we live about 25 miles away. We are equidistant from our parents- 20 miles opposite direction for each set. I have a practice, we own a farm and have livestock so moving is not something we do easily- in fact our new home is right on the same property as our old - we are moving 100 feet!

Yes - I was talking about Dantonio. They are great great people. We are now Michigan State fans! College football coaching is such a small world....we have a lot of great coaches that call this are home.

Where are you building? We lived at off of Riverside drive and 161 when we lived down there.... of course back when I was in school Bethel Road was still 2 lanes and a fairly quick way to get east to west etc on the North side. And we still took care of a pig farmer whose place was on Sawmill.... eventually he took the money and ran....

Still Columbus feels like home.... headed through tomorrow to pick up a friends daughter at OSU and on to KY to a horse event.

Ponydoc: Of course, we are Tress fans here. He's the real deal. I knew Terry Hoeppner and his wife, Jane, really well when he was coaching at Miami. I'm still heartsick over that one.
We live in Dublin which must be very near your old haunts at 161 and Riverside. We have been here 12 years which seems crazy! We actually found about 10 acres still within the school system but would have a Plain City addy. The biggest costs are developing the land to be able to build. A septic for our house plans is about 25K!!! Insane! We still have until February to decide if we will buy or not. The contract language gives us 90 days of due diligence time and our lawyer gave us extensive language to have a no fault exit if we decide to. We have to sell our own house first but probably won't get that done before we need to decide on the land. The big iffy part is what we could get for our home. I'm not giving it away just to be able to do this. But do we go ahead and gamble and buy the property anyway??? We can't seem to come to a reasonable conclusion. We have 6 kids so doing any kind of moving or temporary housing will be like getting major dental work done! ( my apologies to all you dentists, but I HATE dental work!) Not much land left in the Dublin area that can be purchased by the individual buyer. Spec building has definitely slowed down. Subs aren't too hard to find right now. I can't afford to use a full service GC so am considering Ubuildit or something like it.
I have 2 sons that ride western but don't think I am a good candidate for horse ownership!
