What appliance package would you choose? Thermador or Wolf?
Comments (6)Hi Sorry about your fire - that sounds awful. And sorry for long response. I'm in similar appliance hunting mode and trying to pick the best appliance package for under $14K. We could probably pay more but already feel like our kitchen project is out of financial control and costing more than i ever thought! So what i did is that i really like the advantium and i like the bosch dw (thermador is same). Really all i want is the culinary rack (3rd) in DW so that limits the model #s. KA offers this as well. Miele - i just don't love for the price. The thermador package didn't work for me because i really wanted the advantium as my second oven (and thermador doesn't have equivalent). Plus the free DW isn't the one with the third rack. (you can pay $500 to upgrade to that one though) Bosch is offering 15% rebate by mail if you buy at least 3 800 series appliances. And monogram is offering $1000 instant rebate if you buy a cook/rangetop, oven, and hood. With my current quote that i am considering, I'm getting about $2300 off total by combining those 2 offers for 6 pieces (mg rangetop, mg advantium, mg hood, bs dw, bs fridge, bs single oven). Looking at your appliances here are my immediate thoughts: if price is no object subzero makes the best fridges if not antiquated stylewise. They are so solid. i have one that 23 years old and it runs great and still looks good. the service has been good. but i can't spend 2/3 of my budget on one appliance! wolf is good and stylish but i found the specs to be better other places: monogram then thermador - and cheaper. don't do downdraft ventilation if you can avoid it. look at hood companies - vent a hood, best hood. they are nice. my friend has a samsung fridge and its beautiful but the plastic is breaking and she doesnt recommend it. i like the electrolux ovens. very cool. but no package options. bosch and thermador are very similar if not the same for some products. i'm trying to figure out if the bosch 800 series oven i'm looking at is the same as the massterpiece thermador oven at a lower price. thermador is higher end brand than bosch. gaggenau is even higher end. rangetops are really nice - more burners and higher output and in monogram all are the same. but you lose a drawer underneath. i'm coming to the conclusion that the oven problems that some are reporting is due to fancy electronics being destroyed by self clean. thermador and monogram get terrible reviews here for ovens. with equal price and specs i would go with the subzero and wolf (i know this isn't true - sorry!). I would doubecheck what you are getting for free. it may be low end compared to everything else you are getting....See MoreJennAir,KitchenAid,Miele,Thermador Help!
Comments (14)"Electrolux is pretty but is still a Frigidaire under the pretty." Electrolux OWNS Frigidaire not the other way around.Frigidaire is Elux's economy line! Does that mean they can't and don't make "Higher end" products?Of course not!!! I personally compared (3 of each) Miele ovens and Elux Ovens. The doors are thicker and smoother operating on the Elux's. Try pulling out a rack on both the Miele and the Elux, Only Now, is Miele beginning to use the glide out racks but I think only one is standard on their newest ones and you can buy the updated racks for the older ones now. Compare the display panel, The panel is much bigger , easier to read, and more intuitive on the Elux. The window glass is bigger and stays cooler than the Miele. Checks posts on performance of the two ovens. Elux uses actual temp sensors to tell when the oven has finished preheating, whilst Miele uses some kind of "Algorithym" if you check posts, you will see where some users say this "Algorithym" just doesn't work, when the Miele says it has finished it is no where near the temp you set it for. Read about the actual oven temps, Elux is right on the mark using any thermometer you wish. Reports here have said that the Miele can be as low as 50 degrees F from what you set it for, in fact one poster had the oven replaced and the new Miele still measured as her old one did. That can be dealt with using a "fudge factor" as far as baking goes, but is not necessary with the Elux, and in the rare even it is off by a few degrees, it can be calibrated via the wavetouch controls alto no users have posted the need to do so.The Elux is about half the price of the Miele! So Please read the various posts about the 2 ovens before typing such a statement as this: "Meile ovens are great and worth every penny." We've had the Elux Icon 30" oven/convection for more that 4 years now, trouble free, looks and cooks great, Antss and I are gonna "Do the Town" on the 2 grand I saved!! Comments (14)Yeah, it makes sense to expect longer servicing of major devices. OTOH, personally I have never heard of anybody who has had problems with a new fridge, except for internet posters. I may not be the best person to sympathize with the need for long-term servicing as part of an included price. I have a lot of insurance on myself not on things. I never buy extended warrantees. About EnergyStar, which is a dumb rating system, we can agree it will get replaced with some other method one day. The good thing that EnergyStar and EnerGuide have done is to make our society think more all the time about consumption, and in so doing the net result is less consumption. Manufacturers got swayed to get involved without being fed money to do so. Sounds like it worked up till now. According to one EnergyStar site I perused last week, average annual energy consumption of new refrigerators, in kWh/year, was 1984 1990 1997 1999 2004 1457, 1044, 664 , 664 , 465 This was for top-mounted Refrigerators in the size range of 16.5Â18.4 cu. ft. which I believe was considered normal size back in 1984. Today's refrigerators are much better energy performers than older models. This came about without a scandal and without wasting a billion or two on incentives. So even a dumb measuring system can make a positive impact in the right direction. Let's open a new thread to discuss the ideal criteria for an ideal future rating system for refrigerators. Comments (22)Hi zoenip. Yep...that's me. I don't know if I would call myself a guru...probably more like obsessed but still learning. I will look at Brown Antique. the black fossil won't work. The slab is too short and the material cost alone on it is nearly $100 per foot. I just found that out today. So no black fossil for me. Probably for the best....I was concerned about the pattern competing with the kitchen granite. So I'll be looking at solid black, brown, and also cream colored marble. Also looking at Either maple or walnut. The GOOD news is that they will be cutting my delicatus tomorrow!! YAY!! They are seaming it at the two sinks and the cooktop so they can get it here unbroken. this stuff is bad about breaking and having the seams at the cut-outs will help it get here unbroken. So maybe by mid-next week, I'll have granite! I am sure once it is in, it will be easier to decide on what to use on the bar overhang. Cindy...See Morexedos
