OT Be Careful out there!

Hi everyone, as you know we have alot of drama at our house! - lol. one thing that happened to me 3 weeks ago that i forgot to mention was i dropped off Al's prescription at the grocery store and told them i'd be back in 1/2 hour (this was for Al's pain killers, 120 of them to be exact). well i went downtown to a little store that sells newspapers, as i was coming out of the store a guy with a hooded sweat shirt, sun glasses on was going in, i thought nothing about if, until, yes he grabbed my purse and ran towards the marina!!!! i was not hurt, happy to say, no credit cards in my purse, he did get about $250.00!!! this was for the prescription, groceries, and since ds was going to Toronto the next day some of the money was an early Christmas gift!. the police came within 5 minutes, and informed me that i probably wouldn't get my purse back, very bright they are! so we have a block on our checking account - this person tried to cash over 4,000.00 in cheques, tried to rent videos from Blockbuster, but since it's by our house and they know us, they wouldn't let him rent! - see it does pay to be nice. i also mentioned to the policeofficer about the prescription i didn't wait for and he said good thing they would have had a hey day, at 10.00 a pill! they know where we live because of the address on the cheques, and my drivers license, i don't think they'd try to use my library card!-lol. i'm also afraid to go out after dark and here it's about 4:45, and i do not carry a purse anymore, i think i will again when i feel more comfortable.

also again, because i ramble, i went to get the same prescription filled again this morning, because it's a narcotic it can only be filled every 21 days so i was pretty nervous, and i also saw woman walking by the meat counter leaving there purses in the cart and looking at meat, easy for them to get stolen! anyways, because of the Holiday season, watch your purse!!! i never thought it would happen to me (famous words -lol), i'm tall, 5ft 8, not overweight, just tall, so i thought i would share this with you, just please be careful!!!!! debbie

OMG, Debbie!! What next?! I think you could use a good exorcist for that little black cloud hanging around with you! So sorry to hear about your purse and money...so terribly sad...Hope everything clears up from now on!!

I was at a grocery store, one of the somewhat pricey ones, and a pear fell to the floor, bounced few times, and rolled to a stop. I picked it up, and handed it to the produce man that was stocking items. He just put it back on the display. I was dumbfounded. Germs aside, that pear was not worth selling after bouncing so many times, but he didn't seem to care. I guess fruits and onions, anything that's stacked, is likely to fall on the floor a few times. And I didn't even think about the germs the pear picked up. Of course, I always wash my produce before eating it, anyway. It never occurred to me we may need to wash our bread wrappers, too. I quit buying commercial bread a long time ago, anyway. When the expiration date is a few weeks in the future, I figure that I don't want to eat whatever they put into the bread that makes it last that long. The preservatives scare me more than the germs on the wrapper. Sally

Thanks Lou! It doesn't need to be refinished, just cleaned. It's a really nice set. I decided I felt silly whenever I'd order in a restaurant and they say, what kind of dressing and I say, no salad. And they'd look at me like I had a third eye growing out of my forehead, so I started ordering it with whatever the "house dressing" was, and I actually learned to tolerate salad. It became an adventure. I've found myself craving salad every once in a while now, so I figure, knock one calorie-laden meal off the menu every week and replace it with a salad. Mostly, I thought, if I make everything better than restaurants, why not salad too? I've seen some pretty good ones here (and thought, I sure would like to taste that!), and well, Linda, your dressings seems like even I could do them; they are definitely well thought of. So why not! But I sure hear ya Ann. I hear ya. I do know I will not eat iceburg lettuce (it is the only food I have ever found that disagrees with me) salads. That was the biggest part of the problem. I do like salads made with romaine or spinach and that's my starting point.

Oh, we aren't benefiting from the current market -- this was 9 years ago, so it was good at the time. The tax appraiser seems to think we've not missed a year of significant appreciation so we'll be disputing valuation again this year. DH met the owners of the house with the weeping cherry and got a bag of apples to bring home when he was out there on a business trip. I know they appreciated the apple and pear trees, but I can't remember if he said the weeping cherry was still there. It was one of my favorite parts of the landscaping we did and I would love to have one in a great place to enjoy like yours. Add the pond and the heron and I'd have fought you for it! LOL But I don't think you're anywhere near me. Love it and love what you're doing for the house. I would not do much for window treatments either. I like open windows, but you could put a pleated mini-shade that can be drawn all the way up or down and used for any few times you do want privacy without adding any noticeable treatments.

over 20" rain (the rain gauge overflowed a couple of times before I could get out and dump it). Haven't lost power at all, our property is East of the Brazos River but not in the 'river bottom', so we are high (but not dry!). Lots of low spots on the property that hold water, i.e. a mini-lake. No leaks in home, cats are hanging out on front, covered porch. Haven't left property since Friday but suspect most roads around me are, at some point, under enough water it would not be safe to drive on them, even in daylight. Very thankful this is the property we ended up with since it doesn't seem to flood. Lots of water running over it to get to the river though. Grandson is LEO in town where our county seat is and, of course, working without a day off - he has the night shift. Said it was tough to get to town (12 miles) and doubted he would be able to get back home in the morning due to roads being flooded. We do have a smallish creek North of us that tends to close the road in this amount of rain. Hoping things improved, I am supposed to fly out on Thursday heading for Cloudcroft, NM via El Paso.

i'm like you, you see ladies purses just sitting in the cart, and their not even close to them or paying any attention, someone could just walk off with them. and you have to be very careful and not mention the pain pills , never know who might be watching or listening, a sad sad world we live in! Seeing news story on TV about purse snatching (and muggings) I realized what a nightmare it can become if someone has your house keys, address, checks, etc. so quit carrying a purse several years ago. I wear pants or jeans most of the time anyway & carry necessities like keys, drivers license, Ins. card & cash in a front pocket.

Maybe I'm super cautious, but NO ATM cards for me either after someone who lived near me was kidnapped & held for days so the sorry bum could get to her daily cash allowance.
