Liebherr - upgrade to self-closing doors or not?
Comments (2)I have the HC 2062. In the beginning, I had problems with the self-closing door feature. Since they were retrofitted over a year ago, there have been no further door closing issues with my unit. I will take the opportunity to say here, however, that I have had some recurrent problems with the icemaker and cooling controls on this first generation unit. One more service visit is scheduled for the icemaker. If a new circuit board doesn't resolve my problem, Liebherr is going to replace the entire refrigerator. It was a relief to have them make the offer of total unit replacement without my having to raise the question myself. In general, I have been happy with my Liebherr and the service response....See MoreLiebherr fridge, troubles and repairs
Comments (11)It is a built -in. The doors measure at 28 but a surround lip makes it flush at 30. Resting out and around the cabinet. That makes it easy to slide out. Front feet need to be slightly lifted and placed on cloths or a furniture pad to protect floors. The back feet must be wheels(?) as it slid out easily. I did take pictures but no time to post at this time... The pans, not really pans like i have seen before, are hats/caps that sit on top of the individual compressors. Very much like pork-pie hats where the drains collect the moisture. One for fridge and one for freezer. I am now very familiar with the drains. No pans easily accessed. But once pulled out they are very clear without removing any back panel. They are open and exposed at the bottom 8ish inches behind the unit. Locked in but a few paper towels can clean any excess easily. No mention about maintenance in the manual that i can see having read it a few times the past few days. (i do feel i could easily become an authorized repair woman at this point) Bio fresh? Do not think so but the best 'fresh' fridge i have ever had. I'm 53 and have cussed every fridge i have ever had in the past. This is a bit like apple computers. Very much like them, do not want to blame them. : ) I have a very large organic garden and often need consistent cold storage for fall crops of asian pears, carrots, etc. I no longer have foods that often freeze without warning can last a long time. (most kept in the garage if cool enough) Note that i just cleaned the fridge drain 'hat' for the first time in 5 years. I was putting some vinegar down the drain when i cleaned the drain port. Not actually knowing what the drain 'pan' looked like. Or the tube diameter. Or how much liquid it held. I now know so many things about very simple things that some may call for service unnecessarily. When we bought the home 7yrs ago, and soon after decided on the leibherr, we put the ugly early 90's KitchenAid fridge in the basement for 'overflow' and beer. It works without a peep, but does often freeze some things if too far in the back. Fine for beer. Not good for salad or tender greens like the Leibherr. I like it more than any i have had....See Moreliebherr fridges - don't buy!
Comments (33)It pains me to read a review like zydecobb12's. When my husband and I were shopping for a new refrigerator seven years ago, we looked at all the high-end models and read all the reviews. Of course, reviews of all brands were mixed. When we went to look at the actual products, we found that only the Liebherr featured a very simple design and very accessible components. My husband said "This is the one for us. Anything that could go wrong is visible (if you move the refrigerator out from the wall) and seems fixable." Of course the freezer seized up during a spell of hot humid weather. We melted the ice and presto. Easy peasy, especially if one hasn't tossed out the Owner's Manual. No need for a service call. (We didn't order the ice maker since reviews of every cooling device on the Web includes many ice-maker horror stories.) Our Liebherr (freestanding, 30" wide, bottom freezer) has been otherwise flawless. I don't work for Leibherr. Our unit might still go pouf some day. I hate writing product reviews. But for some reason I find myself provoked to offer this rebuttal. Now I'll sign off. Best wishes to everyone searching for the right product....See MoreJenn Air Fridge Problems
Comments (17)My JA did much the same as yours, although it was taking more like "Wild Swings" in the freezer compartment. It would get as high as 20 F, but then it might get pretty close to "0F" again. At first I thought that the auto defrost was "stuck on" all the time as there was no ice buildup in the freezer compartment nor on the evaporator which is in the top of the freezer compartment, but that turned out NOT to be the problem. The problem turned out to be a "Partial plug" in the sealed system. I called one of 3 service companies that Jenn-air recommended. (The other two companies had HORRIFFIC Reviews)~~~~~so be sure to check out any service company you may be considering, (assuming it is not a DIY) this time. The guy was great, that came, He diagnosed the problem "Immediately", (I had been studying schematics and running diagnostic tests on it for weeks)!!!!!! He opened the sealed system, found a little piece of copper in it, installed a new dryer, and recharged the system, all for well under $500! If you do not hear a lot of clicking, then it is most likely not the relay, this time. It could be the thermostat, alto the wooshing noise "Might indicate" a problem with the sealed system, could be a low charge or air in the sealed system, which will "Freeze" in the lines of the sealed system, and make the compressor "work harder" trying to pump the Freon through the ice jam. A competent servicer with the proper gauges should be able to determine the condition of charge of the sealed system. Try turning the thermostat all the way up and down a few times, then set it at it's lowest setting and later check the freezer temp, if it has come down from 20F then it may just be the thermostat and there are, as you know, internet sales sites that carry the thermostat and even videos on UTube on how to change it. Good luck with it, and probably the best advice I gave here, is to THOROUGHLY Check out any service company you are considering, ~~~Use Angies list, Yelp, "Yellow pages" on the net, etc~~~Don't take JA's word on their recommendations~~~Obviously JA is not checking out the service companies that they recommend!!!!!! Thinking more on that "Wooshing sound", several things comes to mind. First as Dadoes said, it could be a defrost problem, and the sound you hear is the evaporator fan being blocked by an "ice Dam", but I would also check the fan for the condenser coils, (those are the coils you are supposed to clean)~~~usually they are somewhere close to the compressor. Listen in that area, also you should feel air running through the condenser coils. Gary This post was edited by dodge59 on Wed, Aug 20, 14 at 7:20...See Morewwu123
