I'm hoping at least one of you has found a brand of adult pull-on diapers that is hypoallergenic AND actually absorbs an adult quantity of pee. I'm so tired of washing all the clothes DH is wearing two and three times daily. The Purfit we've been using always leaks.

What size are you looking for. I have tried several sizes for Hubby but his body is a strange shape big stomach, small back with big but and have not found any to work. Have you tried any of the shields rather than pants.

He's been wearing XL. The problem isn't his shape, it's just the volume of urine coming out. My biggest problem seems to be the need for these to be hypoallergenic which limits what's available

Such an old thread, but it's been fun watching you newer members. Update: Original pot diapers in 2003 because of this thread, then last report on my diapers was 2008. Now in 2015 the story is still exactly the same. When do I declare these vintage pot diapers ? LOL I'm still diapering pots here and there, plus once in awhile I dump our a pretty old pot that's been sitting unloved and forgotten, only to find some of the original diapers ...still in fine shape since those were annual pots. Every time I find one, I just set it over, put in fresh soil and put the diaper right back. Such good shape they stay in, you remember the debates over cloth vs. disposable and which is worse for the environment. Looks to me like when they say these things last in the landfill forever...must be true. Sitting in a pot in soil, undisturbed, years later they look exactly like they did when I put them in there. :( As far as safe or not for veggies, well if your growing for market and advertising organic, you might have a problem since I doubt the manufactures have gone through the process of being organically certified. But they certainly must need to prove these are safe to be in contact with tiny babies bare, vulnerable skin, with the possibility of that baby's bottom skin having terrible diaper rash with open sores. Babies with some allergies have problems this way when exposed to something they react to. The diaper manufactures and consumer oversight is aware of these possibilities, so I would feel safe assuming these are most likely safe. Certainly safer than lots of other things our veggies and our bodies are exposed to everyday. I'm assuming all of you are also aware using an older used pot diaper would only work well as long as the ex-plant was healthy. No bugs or diseases. Died of natural causes, got moved to a bigger pot or such. Shouldn't have to say that, but better to be clear I suppose. What type of cream? do you use when diapering??

You really don't need diaper cream unless baby has irritation going on. 95% of the time I don't use anything. When there is a little irritation, I use Earth Mama Angel Baby Bottom Balm. I guess the exception is for the first few days after they are born and they have the thick, sticky meconium poo. Slathering on some of the Bottom Balm (or just using plain olive oil) helps keep the sticky stuff from sticking to the skin. I've never used any kind of powder on my 3 kiddos. I go back and forth between cloth diapering and regular disposables.

If you are breastfeeding, you will not need anything special for diaper disposal as a breastfed baby's diapers do not smell. DD uses a garbage can. I suggest that you will need a crib and a chest of drawers. A changing table is not a necessity. I used a water proof pad I would put under the baby on his bed to do a diaper change, and DD is doing the same, only she is using a disposable water proof pad for less laundry. She buys them at the drug store. It is easy to manage without the changing table. I suggest that you get lots of blankets, sheets, water proof mattress pads and newborn to 3 months onesies with feet and gowns so that you will not have to do laundry too often. You will be doing laundry enough! If you live where winters are cold, buy 6 or so baby undershirts. I like bumpers in a crib too. I like that large sponge pillow to lay the baby on for baths. They cost just a few dollars. Helps you manage their slippery bodies as you learn to bathe them. I do like those baby towels with the triangle of terrycloth at one corner to pull over their heads so you can wrap them warmly after their baths. Get some baby shampoo too and a mild bath soap. I like to make baby washcloths for baths from a little square of cotton flannel. If you have a friend or relative who sews, or you do yourself, ask for a few of them. Also buy a dozen cloth diapers to use as burp cloths. You will go through these quickly. Target sells printed cloth diapers that are cute in packages of all pinks or all blues. You could also ask your crafty friends to crochet or sew some edges on them. Get some Original Desetin for any bad diaper rashes that may develop. You want to get on a rash right away if it develops. You could also have another type of diaper rash cream to use if the rash is milder. Have some kind of wipes to take with you in your diaper bag as well as at home. Keep a receiving blanket in your diaper bag to use under the baby if you have to change him or her in a public place. Of course you want a nice stroller and a car seat. If you will be traveling, Graco's Snap and Go is great--it's a stroller and a car seat all in one. If you will breastfeed, an electric pump would be great. I never had one, but a friend gave DD hers, and it does a great job of offering the mother options. We love the Bumbo seat, which you can use with supervision once the baby can hold up its head well. DGS loves his. DD also valued her Bjorn baby carrier and would even use it around the house if she had lots to do and the baby was fussing for attention. Also great for getting around the big city with a new baby. Hope this helps. Warmest congratulations.

This substance is known as Sodium Polyacrylate, and is used as a humidifying agent, or conversely, as a water-absorption agent in many areas; Diapers (to absorb excess water) Cigar Humidors (to release moisture in the form of evaporation) Musical Instrument cases (For the same reason as above) In Soil, to release water via osmosis as the surrounding soil dries out. It -does- work, and the product labeled "Soil-Moist", found at most Lowes / Home-Depots, is the cheapest way to buy it that I've found. Haven't used it for plants in recent years, and if it's in an environment without much airflow, can lean towards a tendency to grow mold, unless you're using Propylene Glycol (obviously not suitable for anything concerning plants).

Westelle I feel your pain, I really do... With my hubby the pull-ons seldom get wet but everything else does... For some reason he can't get his 'equipment' out far enough causing the urine to dribble down the front of his PJ's, all over the toilet, floor, his socks and then soak into anything he sits on or walks over... There are times I just want to lay in a large supply of rubber bands... lol

I'm sorry I don't personally know of a pull-on that will solve your problem but maybe the following might help in some way... First off the fitted briefs ( the ones with the tabs ) hold more than the pull-ons, 24 oz. vs 18 oz., with the Wings Quilted Overnight Breathable Briefs it's 24 ozs... There is also something out there called a topliner or booster pad which you can use with any diaper or pull-on... The Tranquility brand ( A medical supply store gave me some free samples to try ) makes different sizes that will hold an additional 10 to 28 ozs... If you don't have the option of shopping around for a good medical supply store use the internet ( northshorecare.com is where I got the above info but I haven't had to order from them yet.) or just type incontinence supplies in your browser... There are some sites that have sampler packs. some charge and some are free.

Try and get some time to yourself as often as you can... The stress of taking care of someone is enough to make YOU very sick... If nothing else for 5 or 10 minutes EVERY day find a place to hide and do some slow deep breathing ( it's easier on you than pulling out your hair or banging your head against the wall.. ( lol )

To save time ( and me ) I keep him in PJ bottoms ( picked up a dozen of them at a second hand store )... I also save the plastic bags from the grocery store... When he misses the pot and needs a change I put all the wet stuff in a plastic bag, tie the handles and toss it down the basement stairs... Sometimes I can go a whole week before he runs out of clean PJ's and sometimes it's once a day...

I'm in Michigan and a booklet that I found very useful ( for other things ) is Alternatives for Seniors... It contains info on everything from retirement communities to hospice care and everything in between, such as getting help with home care ( very important for your sake )... My husband has the same problem with getting his equipment out. It was suggested by his doctor that we have a urologist check him over. In the mean time having him sit down helps. If the space on the stool is too wide sitting will not help. Hurts pride but you can point out if he will understand that seeing him spray all over hurts you to see him in the condition.

;-)) DH's 'equipment' hasn't been cooperative for ages and he's had to sit to pee for several years. Now his problem is 'going' while getting to the bathroom to use the toilet. I guess this is just the lastest thing in his brain to switch-off.

I will check into the topliner/booster pads ASAP. I've already found several useful items at The Wright Store, which is an online supply source for the disabled. I will see if they have any.

As to caring for myself: I am learning how to make time for myself. We bought excellant long-term care insurance policies about 15 years ago and they have been paying for DH's caretakers since Sept. I just went from 3 days a week to seven. I was soooo tired one day last week that I actually dropped him onto the toilet. Thank goodness he didn't get hurt, but it was a wake-up call that I needed help everyday. Also, I've been going for massages -- to help my sore muscles. ;-)) And, being able to go to lunch with friends is the most theraputic of all.

This may sound crazy but talk to your urologist about him wearing a catheter. I just went through urinary surgery and had a catheter for a week. One of the nurses told me people often wear catheters just to get a good night sleep without getting up 3 or 4 times.

Personally I don't see how adult diapers ever work. There doesn't look like there is enough padding for an,adult.

Or you might consider a CONDOM CATHETER (works great for men!) Just like a condom but with tubing attached so this is totally external.

Leaving my huband alone to shop became as much of a problem as finding diapers to fit & hold the output volume.

Are you still looking for help here? I found a great company that helped my dad find a diaper that worked for his lifestyle. I'd check them out, they're called LiveAnew. They offer individualized attention and they used to even offer sampler packs so that you could try out a few brands, not sure if they're still doing that or not.
