Thank you for letting me read all of your stories , feeling your pain and sharing in your strength. It's my turn to make the terrible decision to put my FIL in a home. I'm 53, FIL has been living with DH & I for 4 years. He's 91 now. I had a " meltdown " last week and told DH I can't do this anymore. ( Needless to say - I'm not a popular person around here lately.) I'm putting my mental health first . I've been on antidepressants for over 10 years now .So between Menopause and depression , I feel myself slipping. I Called a social worker today - I didn't even care who - I just needed to talk. She gave me a really nice pep talk . Boy , this sure is hard isn't it ? I Don't know how I'm going to explain it to FIL ....

but it has to be. Stay strong everyone . ((Hugs))

Toomuch, you certainly are right when you say, "...this sure is hard..." There is never a perfect solution and always so many things to consider. You can only make decisions based on what you think will be best for both you and your loved one. There will always be some second guessing involved -- wondering if you made the right decision, wondering if you were too selfish, etc. But, in the end, you just do the best you can given the circumstances you are facing.

Everyone's situation is a bit different, but the folks on this forum have a lot of experience, knowledge, empathy, & encouragement to share.

You have been thru too much and 10 years on anti depressents is not good. Your DH should back you not his father (Money involved? guilt?) You did the right thing.
I could not, did not do it when my folks were alive, but they knew that. By the way, who is going to take care of DH, if you completly break down?

E.O., many of us, have found ourselves in the middle of a 'spat' or in disfavor, if posting long enough! I see it as a 'family thing' where if you hang out with anyone long enough there is bound to be a conflict of opinion or an 'annoyance' factor raising it's head, or a 'bruising of feelings' on a day when if it were another, we might not be nearly so sensitive. The good thing about our *group* (I feel) is when we do clash, it isn't too long before we seem to get past it and move on with life in the garden! I'm not a grudge holder, myself--life is too short! I'm willing to move on, and hope for better things for the future! It's the human-factor we deal with, good and bad!! :o) I find there is something I like and that is positive about every person that posts regularly! If not--I would not return so often---as I do!;o)

The stand....I cheated...I found it at the GoodWill..99Â¢. The glass ball I found at Mangelson's..a large hobby and crafts store in Omaha. They were on sale for 99Â¢ also. I found a package of wedding trims at WalMart It is attached to a fine net so you can sew it on dresses or what ever. I trimmed the netting as close to the sewing as I could without causing it to ravel. And glued it to the glass with the GE silicon glue and glued the beads and flowers with that too. The Feather was a long fluffy one and the glass had a small hole. I couldn't get the feather down in there..So I took a drinking straw and pushed the feather inside the straw. Stuck the straw inside the glass and then pushed a small dowel down inside the straw to push the feather out. I put some of the diamond dust...but won't do that again. Because it got static elec. and stuck to the inside of the glass. I enjoyed making it and will do them in the future but hope I won't need to. patti
