Undercounter Water Chillers

We are looking at the Bosch fully integrated 36 inch refrigerator. However, we have become accustomed to having a cold water available. Because the refrigerator is so small I am not keen on keeping a large brita pitcher in there.

Any tips on under counter water chillers? Good or bad experiences? Are they loud? Any recommended models?

The only one I have found to work is the Everpure system as it will "Chill" the water. I have had good customer feedback on this unit. Most fridges leave a coil of tubing in the fridge to chill the water for the dispenser but that will only last for about 6 cups. The undersink cooler by everpure will require some ventilation so keep that in mind. The also have a great filtration system to work in conjunction with it. Al

How do people commonly prepare for ventilation? I hope to put this next to a sink the island and a house we are building. Seems like the ventilation would be difficult.

Does anyone know how the Everpure EV9318-30 Polaria CGCL-1 water chiller is different from the Elkay ERS11Y. They look similar and I've read that Everpure is an Elkay company but the Elkay version is much less expensive.

We ADORE our Everpure water chiller. Ours was installed about 7 years ago and we love it! It does take up room and does create heat so make sure to have good ventilation or a wide enough space for it. We burned out 2 units until DH installed a small computer fan to exhaust the space into the next cab.

Thanks for your comments lsandler and smarge! lsandler--Sounds like the Evercold is like our stand alone water cooler (which I can't wait to get rid of)--it also is very cold but not icy cold which is fine with me. Is your unit under the sink?? If so, do you notice the noise? smarge- How did you decide on Everpure? Did someone recommend it or did you decide on your own after doing research? If you have your Everpure installed in the next couple of months, could you let me know how you like it? I would really appreciate it! I totally agree with you about the water on the fridge as a potential problem. The more bells and whistles something has-the more likely something will break! I am wondering why you expect your SZ to have problems?? My next door neighbor has had a 42" side by side now for five years and has had no problems. She loves it and it looks great. I am thinking the french door style (and I don't think SZ has one) but nothing is set in stone yet so that idea may change. Right now I am in the research mode trying to narrow down my choices before I start shopping around in person.

I have been using the Oasis ProSelect chiller since mid July, and it works like a charm. It gets the water plenty cold for me. It is also relatively small. The chiller is in a 24in wide sink base cabinet with a 4 stage water filter and an insta-hot tank. It's quite crowded. I don't find the noise obtrusive. I do hear it cycling on and off, but it isn't loud enough to disturb conversation. Also, the base cabinet sometimes gets a bit warm but nothing that I find worrisome. BTW, the 80F to 50F stuff is a standard test to determine how quickly a chiller can cool water. The number to look at is the gph (gallons per hour) when comparing various units. Some of the units can chill water to considerably lower temperatures than 50F. You just won't get the same gph at the lower temperature. Whatever you do, make sure to get a vented faucet (aka an insta-hot faucet). It's a bit more expensive, but you won't come home to a flood due to a burst hose. If you have both chilled water and insta-hot water, you will need two faucets.

We have the Everpure water chiller but it does take up room in the cabinet and as Al says, it needs ventilation.

Ours is installed in the powder room cabinet which is on the same wall as the sink so the tubing just goes through the wall. It's also hooked up to a hot water heater which is in the sink cabinet. Our sink cab is only 24" so there wasn't room for the chiller, hot water heater, garbage disposal and the RO filter system.

We modified the standard cabinet in the powder room by cutting out a 2x6" rectangle of the floor between the toe kick and the front of the cabinet. We also took out the center fake drawer front and replaced it with a decorative brass grill. Not super beautiful for a powder room used by all our guests, but it works :)

The chiller gets the water down to the high 30's low 40's if you run it a bit before putting water in a glass. It's filtered which we also like.

We have a hot/cold faucet so get filtered instant hot or cold water quickly.

One thing you should note is the water goes through the filter into the chiller and from the CHILLER into the hot water tank so the hot water tank fills with ice cold water. This is certainly not energy efficient and bothers me somewhat but we live with it.
