Dishdrawers - Fisher & Paykel, Kenmore or Kitchenaid USERS???

What has your experience been with either the Fisher & Paykel, Kenmore or Kitchenaid dishdrawer?

Would you purchase another one?

Is there any way to insulate them to make them quieter?

I'm planning on installing a single drawer on each side of my sink.

My F&P DD603 is 5.5 years old. Haven't needed any repairs. Whether I'd buy it again depends on what else might be on the market, but otherwise, yes I would. I suppose soundproofing panels of some ilk could be applied to the outside of the cabinet, providing the particular installation situation allows for it, but the unit runs quiet-enough that I don't see there's a need for it. Your installation of two single-units (being fully enclosed all around) should be a little quieter than the typical double-unit that has the lower drawer mechanism more exposed toward the floor.

I have a Kitchenaid kitchen including dishwasher. I love it. Seems quiet enough.

F&P does not make all the drawer dishwasher brands/models that are/were on the market. Kenmore, Maytag, and current KitchenAid (KUDD03 units) are not sourced from F&P. In the case of Kenmore and Maytag, I should say were not sourced from F&P, being that Kenmore and Maytag web sites indicate they no longer offer drawer units. They're a different design that was developed by Maytag, which Whirlpool put on the market after they bought the Maytag company. First-generation KA drawers (KUDD01 models) were sourced from F&P. F&P produces their own branded units, of course, and also DCS.

Hi Everyone, I'm also faced with the small refrigerator conundrum. What's the deal with all of these ginormous refrigerators? I can't believe there is only one in the entire world that is comparable in size to my 25 year old kenmore side by side. To add to my dilemma, my refrigerator does not slide in between cabinets, but rather is at the end of a countertop. Therefore, the left side of the refrigerator is exposed, as well as a bit of the right. I'm looking for stainless, and would like to stay away from the black sides that so many of them seem to have (I have white cabinets.) I've narrowed it down to the Fisher Paykel that is discussed here, and the KitchenAid Architect Series II KBRS19KTSS 18.5 CuFt, which has a gray cabinet, rather than stainless. I'm leaning towards the Fisher Paykel, but the reviews on the Lowe's website are negative. You guys seem to really like yours. Could I get more feedback please? How is the stainless finish on the sides of the refrigerator? It's a bit of a bummer that it's not energy star ($200 rebate), especially since the difference in operating cost/year is negligible...but I can live with that. It's a great looking fridge, I guess I just need a bit more encouragement to buy. So thanks for any input you can give!

Looks pretty good. Weigh it! Subtract a pound for the basket. As I said before Staber takes 18 pounds of varied clothes with one gallon of triangular air space dry, 2 gallons without socks which are puffy so no the clothes are not jammed in. With that much clothes I find I need 4 ounces powder, or 2 liquid stead of one. I wait till the splashing drum is a bit muffled, this indicates suds. Powder must be melted first, at least with my junky detergent. I add it manuelly. Gotta get some Tide Cold, it was thee best in a recent CR shootout. Did some reading about FP this afternoon....."Fisher and Paykel was tops in energy efficiency of all the top loaders," (CR) I'm sure Smart Fill helped with that. Staber does 5 dollars a year gas. Staber also has "Auto Fill Sensing" however, and adds water depending on the size of the load, I see no use for this frivoulous feature however. Uh-oh....here comes Dross again... In case Angela is still wondering....According to CR "Do'nt overstuff the washer.... clothing needs enough room to move so it can be properly cleaned and rinsed, especially in a top loader. You can fill the tub of a front loader, but do'nt jam the clothes in." In addition to the 18 pound capacity, the Staber works really well for puffy items, pillows, comforters, and such. I can wash 3 full size bed pillows and a lite twin size comforter all at the same time. They are rendered clean and odorless, pillows are always puffier afterward. The machine spins out fine in that mode, and does so on MAX spin speed as the machine washes these items without my having to set it on delicate, so the wash is more aggressive also. Really wrings em dry. That's what I mean by EVEREST of gentle. CR 2005 observation "New survey data show that Fisher and Paykel has been among the most repair prone top-loaders" CR observes recently that stainless steel can stand up to higher spin speeds but "has no edge over plastic". Unfortunately, in my reasoning sneeky engineers can breathe on plastic formulas in the lab in such a way as to feed mold if they elect to as can be done with paints (which contain tasty vegetable oil for mold to feed on). Plastic just scares me. It can absorb odors also depending on the plastic. Especially after 5-10 years. Stainless steel is beyond just odor-neutral, it is an air freshener. Not only that, when an inner tub is stainless both sides of it are stainless, thus protected/ deoderized, plastic parts are often hollow and what if both sides are not glossed? Hollow parts increase surface/odor area as there are 2 sides to them. The finished glossy plastic is free of pores and stain resistant and in the same way, porcelain tubs are often finished on only one side. By pores I mean either literal or regarding retention as in odors. All this plastic jiberish is really just my own opinions/theorizing. But we have tupperware that definitly suffers from these problems, and even feel greasy and smells after hot wash or maybe because of it as these tuperwares soften with heat. On the Staber all 4 surfaces front and back of the inner and outer tubs are, well stainless, and have a natural permanent air freshening quality. One things for sure, the Staber always smells crispy fresh. Both tubs are thick as a butter knife, 18 gauge, and the frame base is stainless also on the 2404 model I went with. The outer tub can also be accesed and cleaned by hoemowner. Long story short a friend down the street has a speed queen porcelain top loader and while it does'nt smell horrible it sure does not smell crispy fresh like the S----r does.

If the Wrinkle Free option is enabled, the clothes will be tumbled without heat for about 30 seconds every five minutes to prevent wrinkles that would otherwise occur if the dry clothes were left crumpled and stationary in the drum for an extended period. The end-of-cycle signal beeps after each tumble, reminding the user that the load is actually done and ready to come out. Since you're out of the house and unable to unload, Wrinkle Free is doing exactly what it's supposed to do -- tumbling the clothes periodically until you return so they don't get wrinkled. Most dryers with this feature have it run a maximum of 40 mins to 2.5 hrs, depending on the brand and model. Running it for 24 hrs is one of F&P's unique features for clothes care and convenience of the user. Wrinkle Free is enabled by default on several cycles (Easy Iron, Delicate, Sheets, Shirts), but can be turned off before Starting .. or added to any cycle that doesn't include it by default.

I bought a KitchenAid DW 3 1/2 years ago, model #KUDI01FLSS. 6 months ago a spring or something broke on the door so it no longer opens nice and slowly (if you're not careful, it will bang open). And several weeks ago the DW stopped working altogether. A repair man came out today and said I need a new motor. With installation that will come to $310.

I would not recommend a KitchenAid DW. Oh, and I should also mention the ice maker in our KA counter-depth fridge has also stopped working.

I'm a KA fan. I have had two KA fridges, both great, a KA dishwasher that was perfect, and I now have a KA oven that's a dream.

I have a F&P dishwasher, and it's loads of trouble, but I still like it. The drawers are really very nice. If I'd had space, I'd have put one on each side of the sink to end forever all that bending down to put dishes in the dishwasher. It's heaven compared with the old big-door dishwasher, and I'll never go back. But be prepared to endure the high purchase price, and a few visits from the repair folk, both before and after the warranty ends. Ours are 4 years old, and we run both drawers once a day.

I have an integrated F&P double dish drawer and really like it. It has taken some getting used to and requires rethinking about how dishes, glasses, pots, etc., are loaded, and there are some limitations on height of items that can be placed inside, but it is quiet, saves water/energy, cleans well, and gosh darn it, I like the cute little chime noise it makes when I open it up! If I had the space, I would definitely put one drawer on either side of the sink because it is so easy to just use the top drawer. Depending on the amount of daily cooking I do, and let's face it, all of us are doing more home cooking these days, I do full loads in each drawer every other day. The two design elements that I would love to see improved are: 1) having a top sprayer since sometimes there's residue that doesn't get all washed off due to the bottom-only wash arm, and 2) needing to position cookie sheets, big pans, plastic cutting boards, etc., at a slant inside if they are wider than the drawer height so that the drawer can close. Hope this helps!

I recently saw info from F&P on a new model "tall" DishDrawer. No availability date was stated. The picture showed the side shelves also redesigned with a height adjustment.

I've had the FP drawers and now I have the Kitchenaid drawers, I like them both equally, no difference. I remember reading somewhere that 2 drawers give you approximately 15% more space than one full size dw.

Fisher & Paykel Double Drawers 5 years no problems ever. Bottom one is a tad louder than the top one.

I have FP drawers on either side of our sink. Get a cabinet quote befor commiting to doing 2 upper drawers. That was our original plan, but the custom drawers from our semi-custom cabinet company were so expensive that it was the same price to get two double drawer units instead. So that's what we did.

Our drawers are coming up on 2 yrs old now and we're very happy with them. The top drawers are quieter than the bottom ones, but we find neither very loud in our house that has an open layout. We keep one drawer configured for pots (plate and cup racks removed) and wash just about everything in the drawers. Once you learn the tricks, you'll be amazed at how much stuff fits in these things.

My cabinets are being custom built so having 2 top drawers doesn't affect the price.

Thanks for all the help.

Kenmore is definitely out. I'm leaning towards F&P, I just have such reservations about them as a company.
