Your rose looks similar to a rose in the Sacramento Cemetery, our found rose, "Dr Peck's 12th Avenue Smoothie" is thornless, once blooming. Very fragrant. This found rose is thought to be the same as the Charles Lawson in commerce. Below is a link to a photo I took in the cemetery a few years ago. I liked this rose so much that I propagated it and planted it in my yard even though it is a once bloomer. It is quite vigorous and now takes up the back corner along the fence. It looks a lot like one of mine in Utah that may be Harvest Moon. Another member, Aquawise, has a great website with one just like this one. I looked around in those Indian boxes for a while trying to find something similar. Is this even a "type" of box so I could find similar stuff? Like these kinds of boxes were made in the 1920s to hold letters or... something like that. Are dragons consistent with indian designs? I have some indian pieces, but they seem to have gods or elephants or horseback riders, and the like... Are the designs the best way to place the piece, or should I be trying to identify the type of wood used? Sorry if I have a lot of questions, I'm just very ignorant of antiques or whatever you would classify a box like this as.

I'm wondering - traditionally a Pyx (host holder) would be a round lidded affair about the size of a pocket watch; usually in gold or silver. Although folk art examples do exist world wide made from available local materials. Thinking also to the "Trial of the Pyx" in the UK where newly minted coins are presented to a jury to confirm they meet required standards. The coins are presented in a box called a pyx. I'd question any religious significance in this case.
