I thinkl what the objection to is people who go to a garage sale and post a picture saying "what's this worth"...
You have a legit problem.
Tehre are some very nice things ont hose tables....if I found a garage sald with those things in it I would think I had hit pay dirt!!
I see lots of old Fiesta ware....do a search on eBay to see what it's selling for.
I see what looks like pressed pattern glass...a lot of footed compotes....depending on condition and pattern,w orth from $15 each to several hundred.
I see lots of coffeepots...again very desirable to lots of collectors.
If you are serious about getting rid of it, I would either set up a "shop" in your house and price it fairly, or consign it to a consignment shop...or see if you could put it into a lot at an antiques auction place.

For convenience (ie: not having to move it) you might inquire into having someone come to have a Tag Sale at your home. They know the market value of items, price them fairly and competitively, ADVERTISE it for you (plus they usually have a good following of customers anxious to buy), and take a small percentage as their fee for doing all of the work for you! If you can not find a local listing, try getting a referral from a local auction house.

I agree with the suggestions above but would also include ebay as a possible way to liquidate this collection. It takes more effort on your part, but if you aren't in a tearing hurry might work as well.

BTW--I disagree with your comment that most of it is worthless, it looks like quite a nice collection of Fiesta, glassware, butter presses, etc...Like Linda, I'd be in heaven if I stumble across a garage sale with this much nice stuff on it. Probably not a lot of stuff worth loads of money, but certainly worth doing a bit of research on before deciding on prices.

I see a couple pieces I think may be Fenton. The butter molds are hot items here. The old Fiesta is collectible. Some pieces are pretty interesting. I'd love to happen on a sale with pieces like those. This isn't a collection I'd want to just 'dispose' of.

I think if I didn't really want to spend a lot of time going through them piece by piece, you may want to consolidate these with some of your other furnishings when you do decide to downsize, then have a reputable auctioneer who has a good feel for collectibles run a general auction, and advertise those particular pieces as calling cards. The thing about auctions, if attended by the 'regulars'(auction groupies), are that they will tend to find their own real wholesale value and not go for a song like might happen at yard sales.
Doesn't always happen like that, but in a well attended sale, everyone from the auctioneer to the regulars have a pretty good feel for what are local values on a piece. You may even luck out and get full prices from those who need a certain piece for a collection or folks who fall in love with a piece because it goes with their decor.

A couple of items caught my eye: The butter/jello molds and that very special tea/coffee cup.

If the molds are carved of wood, these are likely butter molds.

The cup that appears as a child's cup is most likely a Mustache Cup! Get a positive ID on this. If it is a mustache cup, its a keeper. This type of cup was popular when men wore bushy, shaggy mustaches. It kept his mustache out of the brew when he sipped. Of course, it was more difficult to wash. A serving set would have had mostly standard cups with one or two mustache cups. Note there is a nose relief molded into the guard.

The copper teapot and acompaning pieces may have value. get an apprisal before selling. Do not destroy the patina.

The pressed/molded glass-ware may not be of high value except for pieces that may have caught the attention of collectors. The value of this stuff goes up and down as dictated by the eye of the beholder.

All the ceramic pieces have more value potential than the pressed glass. The prettily decorated floral pieces may hold surprises.

Its my opinion that all the plastic ware is of low value, however, I am not an expert in these matters. Some of the very early pieces may have begun to appreciate.

If among the collected 'trash' you find momentos marked "made in occupied Japan", these are collectibles.

My advice: Get an appraisal. It can't hurt and it helps if you know that you are not disposing of valuable heirlooms.

An interesting happens in my area. Advertise you are having a garage/tag sale and people come looking for stuff at give away prices. Advertise an estate sale and a whole different crowd comes looking for valuable items.

There are professionals that manage estate sales and are adept at establishing prices. Obviously they also get a percentage of the sales. IMO, this beats the heck out of trying to sell stuff on ebay especially when you have an inventory as large as yours.

In my area, the garage sale people have figured out the "estate sale" bit....also there is the "moving sale" and the "downsizing sale". I think it's the listing of items which draws a crowd.
Funny, I didn't see anything plastic nor any Jell-o molds. But I would love to know the marks on the bottom of tose coffee and tea pots with the square bottoms and the wooden handles.
I saw an old shaker style box anda nice old wooden masher, lots and lots of Fiesta, a very nice rockingham pitcher, a mustard pot which I can't see well enough to know what it is, a mustach cup, likely German, a partial set of wheel cut crystal glassware, several vases, a coupld of which look interesting, a glass shoe, perhaps Fenton, perhaps older, a couple of old milk bottles....one appears to be 1/3 quart size, rather rare, a coffee pot that may be tin over copper and another dented coffee pot which looks like it may be pewter, a pair of glass candle stick holders, several pieces of what appears to be early American pressed pattern glass, lots and lots of Fiesta ware, an oil lamp, several pieces of red transferware and miscellaneous pieces of china, cups a tea pot etc.
Advertise your sale with those items and you will have people come.

In my area I definately see a different crowd at estate sales. Usually these involve a death or older residents moving into assisted living. Often these sales involve furniture, some personal belongings and items of value. Not uncommon to see dealers I recognize.

Not sure this is an option for the OP. IMO, a traditional tag sale will find most people blaking if you price the items any where near their actual values.

So do I, but it's obvious it's an estate sale, because of the listing. Everything is getting sold from the collectibles, to the appliances, to the vehicles, and the real estate......... and the executor's name is usually listed.

It's typical for several auctions to be going on in different parts of the county at the same time, so if you know before the fact the inventory isn't what you'd want, you split.

Occasionally, one will go to an estate auction, and find absolutely everything of any value stripped and nothing but junk left. It only takes half an hour to peruse the offerings and split if there's nothing you even want.....and this happens sometimes. There are auction 'regulars', and you see them every weekend.....winter and summer......and most know each other and their bidding strategy and who resales and who doesn't.

The yard salers are a whole different group for the most part, although I swung both ways, LOL.

Thanks everyone for the great suggestions and attempting to identify some of the items. We probably won't bother with ebay, and will not have a tag sale, but may take the items to a small town near us that is strictly shops with antiques and ask around about auctioneers or if they can identify some of the items, just as you all tried. We might take some of the items that we know are pretty old i.e. butter molds, old fiestaware etc. with us and see if they can assess. Unfortunately, a lot of the items have dings and chips including the mustache cup, so i am not sure if this devalues the item.
Once we find out about the items I will hopefully remember to repost and let you know what we ended up doing.
