I can't find it in the usual sources either.
Is the piece antique? Do you have any idea how old? Where did you get it? Do you know is it American? Does it look like the old coin silver struck marks? And is there any other marking on the spoon?
If the style of the spoon would indicate a country of origin, that might help.
And so would pictures.

My spoon is 12 1/2 inches long, fiddle shape and I believe
coin silver, but I'm not sure. The marks on the back of
the handle are ( 12 lion with raised tail A and the
name SCHACK ) I bought the spoon from a couple in New
England, I believe she was from Philadelphia, PA. The front
of the handle has the letters in capitol (M.T. and just below that 4.) Thank you for your questions, I hope this info. helps. I would love to send pics., but I haven't a clue as to how to do this. Vicky

Is the lion in a "frame" that is it in an indented area....and the same with the 12 and the A....
From what you are saying...it's not American nor English ..
Is the MT on the front in script like a monogram?
What is the back of the spoon, where the bowl joins the handle, like? Does it have a "rat tail"? Do the marks look like thost in the link below?

I went googling. You may have something really special there. The Lion Passant with tail raised should mean sterling. The name is Northern, I thought Germanic. I did find a Johan Ulrich Schack. He was a silversmith in Denmark in the early 1800s. I've enclosed a link below and you can browse down it until you find his name. I really hope this is what you have. there is a teapot on that site manufactured by J. U. Schack from the 1830s. If it is, then wow!

The lion passant means Sterling in Britian. The Danish mark for Sterling 925 pure silver is 3 towers. Two towers means a lesser purity.
If it were British Sterling (or Scottish or Irish or even from India) it would have the purity mark (lion, leopard head or seated Britiana) the date letter (always in a special cartouche and a different letter for every run of the alphabet) the duty mark (a royal's head) the city mark showing in which city it was made (leopard for London, anchor for Birmingham, thistle for Dublin...forget any others) and the maker's mark....which to the best of my knowledge was always initials.
Because of the lion and the full name and the total of four marks, I suspect it could be American made during the time when silversmiths sometimes used marks on coin silver to imitate British sterling....coin is not the same purity as Sterling, only 900 parts fine. However, I couldn't find a record of any American silversmiths with the name of Schack.

Linda, the three towers were not made standard assay marks for Danish silver until 1893. Previous to that it indicated only pieces made in Copenhagen. Pieces made predating that could have various marks indicating the cities in which they were manufactured. Two digit date marks indicate it was made after 1771 when they stopped using the four digit system in Denmark. I did find a Peter W. H. Schack-Nibe who was a Danish Silversmith producing from 1937 to 1957 listed in Danish Makers. He did use the full name SCHACK as his mark.The makers do not always use initials. They usually do, but not always. That would make him a definate "possible". I do not know anything about him, save artisans didn't always produce in their own countries. Perhaps this piece was done by a Danish smith but made in the U.K. That could explain a British Lion Passant, or not.

Silver produced in the UK would HAVE to have the assay mark.
And the three towers were the mark used for Copenhagen fine silver since the 17th century, until the the 1890's when it became the national mark. Before that other cities in Denmark used a different mark.
When I get back I'll post the pictures.

I know that, that's what I just said. It may have been made in a city other than Copenhagen before the 1890s and not have the three towers. I was trying to clarify your remark that Danish sterling would have a three towers mark on it. Not necessarily depending on where and when it was made.

Here is a link I think may explain a lot. It's the link to the Danish Schrack family business. They have been in operation for five generations. It's in Danish, but you can run it through a translator. I still think this is Danish ware, and could have been made by any of the Schrack family there. I suspect if one were really motivated they could email the Shrack business directly and they could help. I've done that with French wines before and gotten answers from very gracious descendants of long deceased winemakers.

I think what will tell who made this spoon and where they are from is the cartouche around the lion passant...and that will take some research.
From the style of the spoon, I think it's mid 19th century...and American. Mr Scheck of Denmark could very well have a cousin who emmigrated to the US...and didn't produce a lot, hence the scarcity of records of his works.
