###Remove your venus' flytrap out of that black dirt as soon as possible. Regular dirt contains too much salts and crap you do not want to know about. A terrarium is not needed to grow these plants. Venus' flytraps grow better in windowsills or outside in a sunny location. 1)Firstly, Venus' flytraps live in Sandy/Peaty poor nutrient free soils in the wild in the Carolinas. They prefer and thrive well in soils like Sphagnum Moss, Peatmoss +Perlite, or just peat moss itself(not regular potting soil) So go back to Walmart and buy a Bag of "Sphagnum peat moss" and a bag of "perlite." After you do, mix 50% peat moss, and 50% perlite. Wet the Media, and make sure that is completely moist first.. then you can repot your new plant back to its new sanitary home. 2)Watering, Watering can be simply done by using a tray method. if you have some type of small saucer, you can use that. fill in your saucer with clean water(reverse osmosis, or clean rain water, or bottled sodium free water)After you filled in your Water tray(or Saucer) you can summerge your potted plant. That way, the new moist soil will help your plant's new roots to grow. it will take about a week or two to see your plant improving. never allow the compoist to dry out. Water your plant using the tray method daily.. 3)Sunlight, Venus flytraps grow in full sunlight in the wild. They love growing outdoors in the sun. you can give your new plant atleast 4-6 hours of full sunlight for vigorous growth. when you grow it outdoors. it will feed it self. During the summer months, venus' flytraps need atleast 4-6 hours of direct sunlight in order for vigorous growth. If you grow your plant in a shade spot, it will look distorted , pale and sickly.. so i recommend you to grow it outdoors or in a sunny windowsill.. 4)Dormancy, Venus' flytraps indeed need their dormancy period. they enjoy chilly winters 40 degrees and under. They experience their dormancy period From Late October to early March. If you still have your plant, what you can do this winter is simply; put your potted plant inside a ziplock bag, and place your plant(inside the ziplock bag) inside the fridge atleast for 3-4 months(Later October through early february) that's the only trick you can do for them in order for them to face dormancy(unless you live somewhere where it's really cold in the winters,other wise, you can leave your plant outside all year round. but when the plant experiences dormancy, don't water it as much, leave the plant's soil bearly moist. *i hope this helps, So.. firstly, go back to walmart, buy new Sphagnum Peat moss(Shultz or Lambert) and some perlite. Mix and wet the media, then repot your innocent venus' flytrap into its new home. *After you repot it, it is best to acclimate it under lights or in a bright indirect location for atleast 1-2 weeks, after acclimating it to your surroundings, you can start growing it outside, or in a windowsill.. Get Argon gas with low-E it that is available. Depending on your preference and your house, the windows may add to or take away from the interior feel. So this is something worth careful consideration. Hardwood floor? Knotty pine trims? carpet color or wall covering or colors? They all will figure in. There are Casements, Double-Hung, Slider and some interesting special shapes that may or may not work for your house too. It is worth looking at them too. You may want special grille option or special design of your own, that will also dictate which brand you go with. Some brand are good at custom work for a little more, some can do it but charge a lot more and some will not do it. Then there is wood offering too. When we did this 3 years ago, getting custom wood cost an arm and a leg. Now, many brands offer Cherry, Maple, Oak at nominal cost. It is also important to go see the windows at a store, touch and feel and ask questions and find a shop that will patiently answer every concern you have. It is important to take it slow and careful so whatever windows you end up buying and installing will make you happy. it is better to take the time and do it right then to move fast and end up having to change later. Problem is Pella has different grades of products, so does Marvin, Andersen, Kolbe and so on. Each grade has specific things that may or may not sell you on the spot. It is best to get to know the brands, understand their offerings, look and touch them at a shop, and then compare and decide. We took close to 6 months to educate ourselves about windows, then researched the brands, and finally made a choice. It was well worth all the time spent. If I had rushed it, we would have installed beige Milgard vinyls and that would have completely ruined the architectural feel of our house. My family would not have been happy with me :-). I loved to mix purple and blue morning glories with the hyacinth bean vines--thought it was spectacular. Oh my, Dawn! When I was talking vines up the vegetable fence--I wasn't even thinking flowers! How cool. Vines, here we go! Gotta get some black-eyed Susan vines up one side, morning glories and hyacinth beans up another! Woo-hoo! Thank YOU! I was picturing vines growing up your fence, too, Canokie. What kind of light do you have in that corner? Is it full sun or is there some shade? Does it get hot hot in that corner? Dry? I love Joe Pye weed--it can get really tall--8 feet or more; but doesn't like dry soil (not wet either). I don't know if it can take heat well. Does anyone else know? I've read that it does well in Oklahoma and I know I can find a place for it in my yard--got some ready to seed as soon as I take them out of the freezer in a couple weeks. I had never before been a huge fan of zinnias, but those little flowers are workhorses, aren't they? I'm putting in some giant violet queens this year. What colors do you like, Canokie? I am also loving the lantanas, Oklahoma friends, and so do the butterflies and bees! Who knew. And verbena for low-lying flowers--I have been so delighted to see the verbena, lantana and black-eyed Susan vines grow like crazy down here. My lantana plants grew into 2 1/2 feet bushes! Lovely. The verbena spread and bloomed continually. And reseeded! I would think what flowers would do well is going to depend on the available sun, how much heat is in that corner, and how dry (or wet) it is.
