For new construction I am told this is ------------
Comments (27)sanborn5, I have no pictures because we haven't installed the lighting yet, but for what it's worth, we are putting a small chandelier over our tub as well in the master. We had them install a J-box, and we'll change it after we get the CO. I know it is against code, I'm doing it anyway, and hoosiergirl is the one who gave me the idea. I thought epjenk had it too but checked and she had a t.v. but no chandelier. I love Maine! When I had less children about 6 summers ago, I took my girls with me and flew into New Hampshire and rented a car and drove up the coast of Maine to Freeport. A friend of mine owns a house on the water up there and it was one of the nicest weeks I've ever spent! In fact, I am in the middle of a family struggle right now, trying to pry everyone away from the beach next year to spend a few weeks up in Maine. I hope I win! Good luck with your build. Comments (1)Do not panic! If the doors are painted, it's EASY ... 1 - remove door 2 - sand or plane off the paint on the bottom of the door, and strip and sand at least the bottom couple of inches of the door. 3 - glue and nail (with finishing nails) a strip of wood to the bottom that is as deep as you need. Cut this to fit from any nice clear-grained boards. Depending on the height you need, it can be plain 1-in boards up to 2x6 Fill the end grain of the board, let dry, sand smooth. 4 - sand the joint and the rest of the door lightly, prime and repaint. Mucho work, poco money required....See MoreWhats a house must have?
Comments (64)I am a fifty three year old divorced woman so my needs now are very different than they were when I am a married mother of seven. I needed at least one bedroom on the ground floor if the stairs started giving me problems. Currently I sleep in the bigger bedrroom upstairs and the other is a very nice guest room. I knew I didn't want or need outside maintenance work so I only looked at townhomes. I wanted pretty in most everything, I embrace my shallowness lol. My kitchen is tiny, perfect for me, I am not a huge cook or baker (although I now get one of the meal delivery services so I am cooking a bit more). When I do cook everything is right there, literally. I grew up in a different country and my standards and perspective might be a little different than the American standards I have seen over the years. I have 1100sq ft, a end unit, a very comfortable bed, a washer AND a dryer, a microwave (a pretty one even) a full sized refrigerator, a brand new stove/oven, two ok bathrooms (pure luxury where I am from), nice floors, heating and A/C. No outside work (and outside is lovely, all trees and (odd) little creatures). It's just me and my Leo, a ten lb. Bichon. I fill it with flowers as often as I can and really enjoy the quiet. And, I promise, it's pretty ;) i bought this little place, sight unseen. I had an excellent real estate person. For me, it's perfect....See MoreDoes your house HAVE to have something to feel "right?"
Comments (40)When my husband's job moved to another state and him with it, I stayed behind (it was 400 miles) to get ready to sell and move. He went house hunting in the new town all by himself. I told him that the new home must have a garbage disposal, a window over the kitchen sink and a big window with a view from the kitchen table. Other than those 3 things, I could make do with whatever house he picked out. The day we moved in was the first time I saw my new home. It had the disposal, and a window over the sink, but it was too high for short me to see anything out of it but the tops of trees. And there was a window with a view from the table, but the dog couldn't see out of it. Within 2 months those windows were changed to accommodate both me and the dog. I loved that house, DH did a great job house hunting on his own....See MoreRelated Professionals
