I Truly Wish....

I truly wish people would stop sending me inspirational/ or religious uplifting emails! They are neither... to me at least. Most tear me up and make me a wreak for the rest of the day. I just got another beautiful story and I'm crying... again... and will be a mess for the rest of the day. I know these people are only trying to help, but it has the opposite effect on me.

Maybe I should send these well-meaning friends an email asking them to not send any more such fwds.

Yes, you can and should send a note to these people. Let me guess, it's usually the same people, right?

Or just delete before opening. And let these people know that you don't need these messages.

I was in a car with a friend when a bee (or wasp, I never actually saw it) flew in the window, up the leg of his (baggy) shorts and stung him in those tender man-parts....but guess who was shrieking and hyperventilating by the side of the road? And even when his knackers swelled to grapefruit size, I was still making far more fuss. Still, it is quite true - help is possible (although I tell ya, the therapy lark was a dismal fail for me)......gardening though...... Out of the blue, my daughter (the same bee-stung one - she still loves me) cleared up our naked, muddy puppy ridden yard one day (we had many lurchers) and, in celebration we planted a lavatera. Obviously, as all gardeners know and I had yet to find out, lavatera grows like the clappers....but still, I thought I was a tremendous success (although was, at that point, less amused with the delighted bees)....and obviously had green fingers. Next plant - a japanese anemone - again, by sheer luck (I liked the name) I picked another winner....and an obsession was born. A totally overwhelming desitre to get to know plants (I enrolled for horticulture college quicksmart - 4 years!). Now seeing bees going about their business, on our plants (where they vastly prefer to hang out rather than on our arms and legs), over the last decade, has undeniably got a whole lot easier (although I am, of course, watching at a respectable distance and making sure I have a clear exit).........and as an avid fruit grower, I certainly have a vested interest in their continued health and survival - see what I mean about cancelling each other out....because whilst I fear these creatures, I also admire and depend on them so could not countenance spraying (although I have not the slightest compunction about spraying nettles out of all existence with some lethal broadleaf killer agent orange napalm death........) So while I never expect to get up close and personal to a bee, the sheer number of times I encounter them really does diminish that visceral anxiety because a lot of the time, I am tortured by anticipation and imagination.....actually being near but feeling safe has been the best therapy I have ever done.....so first of all, get involved in the garden.....might be what you need to break the cycle (yeah, I know all that facing one's fear blah blah......but it works if the rewards (a really great hobby and being able to be outside in the garden) are enough to make the effort.

Well, it has been a tough month for me and my family. We would have celebrated Wayne's 68th birthday today. It has been quiet around here even with the shelties. All our kids are out of town or out of province and although I talk with them regularly, it is just not the same in this old house. I miss Wayne so much and still doesn't seem real at times. As you have expressed Terry, there is a large void where his large presense was and the absense of his voice is deafening. Even though I go through the motions of life every day, it still feels like I just want time to stand still! I am so grateful that I have such supportive people around me and my fellow garden webbers to communicate with. I look forward to the spring and I look forward to ending this chapter in this old house. In the meantime, I am keeping myself busy with my sewing and clearing out what is no longer needed here. Peggy,I have been unable to see the garden for a couple of weeks now thanks to all the white stuff we got but I have named my new peonies after each and every one of you on this forum. Guys are red and white ones! Ladies are pink! :) I have stored them in the garage in peat moss and sand. Hopefully everyone will survive the winter. Lynn, the dogs are definately keeping me busy and I have to do poop patrol now. :$ Good grief! Ingrid, I am planning on a trip out to see you when ever you are ready for company providing the roads are clear. I look forward to getting out in the country! Cindy, I'm so happy to have met you but sad for the circumstances. Thank you so very much for the casseroles. You are a great cook! Food is always good for the grieving! :) I'll be ok sooner or later. Strong Scottish stock. Love to everyone Ginny

mariend lurking can be very rewarding I prefer to lurk for the most part, I very rarely offer an opinion here because of how nasty some people in (as ole joyful put it, The crabby lot) can be. Like you I just don't answer some pples posts because they are part of (the Crabby Lot). I'm glad you will continue to post I have learned from and enjoyed many of your posts I saw what some of (the Crabby Lot) did to CT before she died and it wasn't pretty. I have never met a nicer person than her and when she was pushed by the meanness of some of the crabby lot she fired back and left. It was heartbreaking to see how sad it made her to not share on the other boards she was so very much a part for so long. I miss her as a friend and neighbor and try to honor what she stood for. Honesty, integrity, reliability. generosity and compassion where it is deserved. I'm sorry to have spouted this here but these 2 months since she passed have been hard on me. I never had a better friend. LIL

yes, just send them a note thanking them for thinking of you but you need them to know that in your current situation you are finding them stressful (or whatever word you feel works better).

I have a cousin and her daughter that do that on a many times a day rotation. I have deleted the daughter, and may delete the cousin. They can be uplifting but so many in one day is ridiculous to me. I don't want to be mean or ugly to them as I know that they mean well but too much of a good thing is just too much,

Yes and my cousin told me she understood, just don't read them she told me, but her daughter also sends them to me so its a double dose to me. first ones I read but don't want them over and over every single day. As I mentioned I have deleted the daughter but now the cousin seems to be sending more to me. Maybe 4 or 5 a day. I know that they both mean well but sometimes a little of one thing is just too much.

Check with your server to see if you can block them. My server will block them and bounce them back. I don't have any patience for people who who send junk when I have asked them repeatedly not to send it.

When I give my email out to a friend or family member I ask not to be put me on their mailing list for forwards and warning about things like Obama Care or Jane Fonda.

At first I did like the joke forwards. I have a 3 ring zippered binder of those jokes to which I added clip art at the top and bottoms. The clip art of the hillbilly/redneck medical terms is hilarious, out houses, shacks, stills, etc.. When my husband had bypass surgery I took copies of a lot of them and left them at the nurses station for something for them to read on their breaks. I was in my office one time and started laughing out loud and my husband came in and asked "what is going on in here?" I read him the story and he just grunted. LOL

I just delete-delete-delete without reading. I do notice I get a lot less of these than I used to.
