I had a single-door bottom freezer fridge in my last house (and my first house, years ago!) and vastly prefered it over a top freezer. Those both had just a one pull-out basket, and, yes, things did get unorganized, but I still prefered it to the freezer-on-top -- which our "while building" apartment has and which drives me nuts because everything falls out.

Re the SXS setup, I've used them at several people's houses and to me no matter how wide the unit, both the freezer and the fridge feel very cramped and small.

My new house will have a french door with lower freezer -- I think the drawer will help me keep it organized, and the wide fridge part just looks like it will hold a ton of stuff. My DS and DDIL have had a Samsung FD for about a year and absolutely love it, and while visiting, I loved it too.

I have a french door fridge with freezer on the bottom. I have to say that it does not hold a lot of items. That may be because the ice bucket takes up quite a bit of space though. I did not want to have the ice/water dispenser on the front of the fridge, taking up space in the fridge area. I have a freezer in the garage though so that takes up the slack.

I have to say re the french door set up though,........I would never purchase this set up again. It is the only thing I do not like about our new house. I HATE having to open both doors to get into the deli meats/cheese drawers.The deli/cheese drawers are one long drawer the width of the entire fridge, divided by compartments so there is no way to open it without opening both doors. I can't believe it was designed this way! These are the ones we use frequently and it is such a nuisance to hold onto the door so it doesn't swing out too hard while we try to get into those drawers. I don't know if this is just a design thing with Kitchen Aid or what but my next fridge will not be a french door fridge if it is set up this way. I previously had a bottom mount freezer with single door fridge on top and that took way less effort to use. I liked the look of the french door though and since I did not think of how the set up would work for our family, thought nothing of purchasing one. It might be something to think about. I am curious what other french door owner's think about their purchase, now that they have one.

I agree with the poster re the side by side. Personally I have a hard time with how no matter what the size of the fridge is, the freezer side always seems cramped. It would take way too much space in my kitchen to get the size that felt right to me. So that was not an option for me.
