Sterling Silver Charm Bracelets (old school!)

I still have my bracelet from the 70's. I wish these would come back in style! Anyone else?

Create your own style. Just because something is not worn by those on the red carpet right now does not mean you can't wear it.

Two of my favorite pieces of clothing for the last 20 years were Chuck Taylors and jean jackets. I got compliments from young kids all the time, "cool jacket!" or "I remember those shoes!". Then, all of the sudden, Chucks are everywhere again. I still have all of mine, but am actually waiting for them to go back out of style.

Now, I will say that entire outfits shouldn't be done this way, I am thinking back to the 80's with shoulder pads and neon ties. But a bracelet is just fine! Go for it!

I think you should wear it. I see charm type bracelets sold on QVC (not that QVC is the last word in fashion, but someone's buying them), and I see charms sold in the stores.

I'm wearing a Christmas charm bracelet now.

Jewelry making is very fun but I do think it is a pretty expensive hobby. If you use sterling silver and crystals or other semi or precious stones it can add up, handcrafted lampwork beads are beautiful but can get costly also. If you purchase the sterling silver letter beads they are about $1.00 each. If you buy good crystals they add up also. If you try it (jewelry making) just beware that it is very addicting = )

This is how I bend the head pins. Put the bead on and hope the hole is small enough that it doesn't slip off!! If it does, I use a seed bead first. I use pliers to bend them one way,then move up a little and bend it back the other way and cut off the excess,sort of like a fish hook is what I read to do,although mine sorta come out triangle shaped.Slip it over the link and squeeze it closed with the pliers.Sometimes I use 2 pair of pliers if I'm having trouble. My DH gave me his little needle-nose pliers. And I don't worry about them being perfectly shaped,all the same size. My DH bought me a "third hand" like you see old guys tying fishing lures in the movies? That's how I hold my chain while I attach the beads. :) Now as far as drilling the silverware, I had silver plate,which was pretty soft, but my sister gave me some Oneida with real pretty roses right down to the bowl of the spoon,let me tell you...I knew I was in trouble when the bolt cutters would hardly cut the handles off. Then I broke a few drill bits trying to drill the holes, I got one spoon done,and gave up on those. They must have been high quality stainless flatware!So I hope you get extra drill bits. I use a cordless drill and titanium drill bits,and those still break after a while. Hope this helps! Cherry Oh yeah,and before you drill you might want to use a nail set,or something to mark your hole before you drill it,even a nail and hammer to make a little dent, because it slips all over the place!

The true Pandora can be expensive; if you like the look, but want to start a charm bracelet less expensively, I would recommend DiVinci at the Hallmark stores. DD and I discovered the line while Christmas shopping and ironically, we both ended up getting each other a bracelet and just a few starter pieces. I think I spent less than $60 for a toggle bracelet, two stopper end pieces, 2 stones in the sea blue family and 2 in the green family, and 1 dangle charm. Check out the cute little "2 peas in a Pod" dangle - that's the one I got her representing her marriage. Of course they are not real gold or silver, but they are fun. I wear mine 2-3 times a week and it is holding up well. These would be fun gifts for tweens and teens who don't take care of expensive jewelry, or just anyone who likes cute, cheap jewelry (me). I have a beautiful silver charm bracelet Mom gave me when I turned 16. I've considered moving all the charms to a necklace since it's rather overloaded now. I must get it photographed! I also have two Italian charm bracelets. One represents my my AF days, and the second one is my "other life." LOL This shows the charm for Harry, mine and DH's birthstones, and an AF emblem. Part of the AF braclet, a Nikon camera (my job was photo journalist.) Spanish flag, red dancing shoes, Andorra flag, and lobsters. The AF bracelet also has a charm for the space shuttle, "mystery" (time in England), a custom photo charm of an F-16, and a party girl (wearing the same dress I bought for a Christmas party!)

Just wear it if you like it. Charm bracelets are a very often a personal creation and hold sentimental value.

Charm bracelets are still sold now days. The trendy ones popular nowdays have enameled charms and recognized signature designer styling.

Old vintage styles from the 50s-60s, are being sold on eBay all the time. If you never wear it, and it has no sentimental value consider selling it.

I have my old SS charem bracelet started when I was about 8 way back in the 1960's. I still have it in my jewelry box, I got many charms in the 60s and 70s. I haven't worn it in many years. My Mom has a gorgeous gold charm bracelet. I would love to inheirit it when she passes, but I am not wishing for that at all. So mine will stay in the jewelry box.

I have 2 charm bracelets that I love to wear. I also have a charm necklace with about 15 charms on it; more would make it too heavy. I started one for my granddaughter, with each charm having a meaning for the 2 of us. What I love about them is that they're like little scrapbooks. I remember where I got each charm - they're so fun to look at. Whenever we travel, I try to buy a charm that fits the destination. Somebody must be wearing these things as dept. stores and jewelry stores are full of charms and bracelets. Not that I ever cared if what I wear is fashion or not.

My SS charm bracelet (with pewter & SS charms) holds sentimental value. I have a baby booty for my son, a heart from my husband, a lizard due to a nickname from my brother when little, a gardening hat because of one passion, a cat to remind me of my two long lost best pals... etc. & so on. And every Christmas in my stocking I get more charms. :-)
