Need floor tile to match white/grey marble

I like the white venintino carrera marble for the vanity top in my powder room, but can't figure out what to put on the floor. I want something inexpensive. I wanted to do a mosaic of the octagon/dot with black white but I think I should do a larger tile = less grout lines...Any suggestions and/or pictures to help me decide?

Monday night, I'll get pictures of a bathroom I just did for the Maine Historical Society, doing white octagons with black dots and black grout.

I guess I'm kind-of a basketweave junkie now that I've seen some installed here online and at our local tile store. A previous poster just bought some beautiful white and black marble basketweave from an online dealer at an affordable price (don't remember what she said it was, though, but you could check it out).

I attached the link.

Also, my tile shop said that the Walker-Zanger SoHo line had everything you could ever want in black/white/marble/vintage-look. They called it "affordable," but everything is relative, I think!!

I don't think the color is a problem as your thinset should cover the color of what's under it. BUT ... metal mesh? It requires a thick (1.5" mud bed). Since you initially confused what he used with thin set, I'm guessing that you've got what's called a "scratch coat" with your lath. That's a big no-no..... If you're not doing the mud bed then the alternative is Ditra, not scratch and mesh. I'd try posting over on bathrooms and asking Bill V or Mongo to weigh in since they're the tile experts. I know just enough to be dangerous. :) Good luck!

Hi Phyllis, Glad to comment on this. My tiles looked like this too - any tiles that were pure white stayed white, while any with even a bit of grey veining went really dark. That contrast while wet made me REALLY nervous. But after some time, they all looked beautiful again. One further comment - I hand picked each and every tile hoping for a beautiful installation. It sounds like you may have taken that extra effort too. I would do what you are doing - just watch each day and I expect you'll find the tiles getting lighter and lighter. Once your fears have calmed, just start in again and you'll be rewarded with a wonderful backsplash!!

That is very good news to me because the grout in your shower looks very light to me, in fact it looks white! In the color samples Sterling is lighter than Silverado! Are you sure it isn't white in your shower? By the way, it is beautiful.

That black grout may be just the ticket I needed to consider a floor like this. Stunning! ... I wonder if they make brown dots so I could have grout the same color of my country dirt.

Don't know the pattern name either, but it was used in my 1950 bathroom too.
