Home Depot, Lowes. or Somewhere Else
Comments (2)Many of the online sellers have great customer service departments which can provide better advice and guidance than the 18 year old clerk at the big box store who was working in the paint department yesterday. The Online folks have to make their living being able to help people from remote locations and my experience has been excellent. If you want a specific reference for an online dealer let me know. Unlike some, I am trying to be as non commercial as possible on this forum....See MoreBuying Tiles/Flooring from Home Depot/Lowes: Any Cons?
Comments (9)I've bought a lot of items from both Home Depot and Lowe's over the years. I've found them to be customer oriented, easy to do business with, and they carry a wide assortment of products. I've had doors installed, carpet installed, bought appliances, tons of tools, hardware, you name it. I'm looking at vinyl tiles at both stores right now, and carpet at Lowe's. I pay close attention customer reviews. Other than that, I have noticed that they carry a wide price range of items within a product line, to suit what their customers want. In researching the vinyl tiles, I've noticed that H.D.'s store brand has a lot of excellent reviews. I have also noticed that both stores have the bottom of the line, inexpensive varieties that have problems. But I think that's more because of the PRICE and not because it's at H.D. or Lowe's. Some of the vinyl tiles have complaints that the top layer will scratch off, pieces not be squared, the tiles iwthin a box won't match in pattern, etc. So I think if you inspect in person, and buy something that is not the bottom of the line, it should be fine (paying attention to customer reviews). I don't know about ceramic tile, but for vinyl tile, I was able to buy a single tile, or pick up a sample, and take them home for color inspection, and scrape them with a knife to test for durability. The one thing that surprises me, but which I think is the case, is that if there is a manufacturing defect, and the tile has been installed, I'm not so sure the big box stores will credit you. They may serve only as an agent with the manufacturer for you. You'd have to check on that, since I'm not sure. But then all stores would be this way. I love the big box stores. So easy to do business with them....See Morelow budget kitchen- IKEA or Home Depot or what?
Comments (28)When we priced the Ikea cabinets for her kitchen they where considerably more expensive than the Schrock ones and we did not have an Ikea close enough to go to see them in person. She wanted painted cabinets not thermofoil and schrock cabinets have wood drawers, dove tail construction. So for the $ they really are nice cabinets. Another line that is fairly inexpensive is Mid continent cabinets. The dealer in our area for the mid-continent is difficult to work with so we passed on them. Steph- the flooring is from lowes the allen + roth brand, pretty inexpensive and it is individual planks. It looks nice the planks had a foam backing attached to them. I have a vinyl plank flooring in my basement and I love it. I do daycare and it is very nice looking and cleans up easily. I would not hesitate to put the vinyl floor on cement....See MoreLowes and Home Depot to source entire kitchen?
Comments (6)my parents used Lowes. my father got a contractor's discount somehow. they have solid plywood shaker cabinets with soft close, drawers in the plinths, bought all of their appliances - GE and LG fridge. they have two dishwashers, two ranges, two sinks, one french door fridge, nicely done granite, porcelain tile floor and backsplash. The entire thing including demo, electric, plumbing, cabinets, tops, all tile work and prep was 35K in a 12x24 kitchen using the existing footprint. they were very happy with service. this is very much a local thing. Even a year out, Lowes came back no questions asked to deal with some small issues that they did not catch initially. the granite installer did a very nice job. they had something weird in the granite - like a small repair with a greenish tinge in it - they just Lowes know and the granite company was called back to fix it. the service was superb. they are older people and this was a very low hassle renovation for them, my mother says she has never cooked in such a wonderful place....See Morebaytoshore
