new house: engineered wood or kiln-dried lumber??

The builder we are most likely going to use is strongly recommending that we use engineered lumber. He says that regular kiln dried lumber invariably shrinks which can cause parts of the house to shift, setting up for problems. As I understand it, a downside of engineered lumber is that many of them have toxins in the adhesives (some now I see are formaldehyde free, but I also have to wonder what we'll find out in 10 years about whatever compound has replaced it ...). Also, because engineered wood is more combustible or burns more quickly, we are required (here in PA) to install a fire sprinkler system -- which we may or may not choose to do anyway. also, with engineered wood we have to use trusses for the attic which greatly decreases potential storage space.

Any ideas/ thoughts?
