Middle age skin care

I am 41. Mysteriously I started to have acne breakouts recently. That bothers me to no end. Although I have been using acne lotion (Neomedrol) for the last 20 years for small spots of acne, it seems that it no longer works for me. I started to have dry, flaky skin. Then I tried the L'Oreal Renovist Glycolic Acid Peel, and it worked wonders in removing the dead skin cells, and also prevented further breakouts. I am using it once a week, to keep the skin clean and smooth. Since I have highly sensitive skin, I do not use any creams or lotions. They tend to make my face oily and lead to breakout. The best way is to stay out of the sun, which I have been obsessive about since by late teens. So, fortunately, at this point, I don't yet have any visible wrinkles on face eyes, and face (except on the forehead). I believe the best way is to eat lots of vegies and fruits, drink lots of water, have plenty of sleep, and in addition, find a skin care regimen that is best for you. I am constantly in the search of it... By the way, I am now using L'Oreal Happyderm foam face wash. It is excellent. I just love it! It is so soft and make the skin really clean, but does not dry it at all. The ideal way is to use the glycolic acid peel once a week, and wash your face twice daily with Happyderm.

nana, you sure seem to have found a good way to treat your skin; l'OrÃ©al products are not too expensive so that 's excellent. I am a firm believer of exfoliation too; so you are not using any moisturizer at all day or night ?

I'm 41 too. My skin is misbehaving as well. I saw some great reviews about this book, The Skin Type Solution, on a makeup board I frequent so I had to get it. It is well worth the purchase price! Based on a questionaire that you fill out, I found out I have Oily, Sensitive, Non-Pigmented, Tight skin. I am following her recommendations for my skin and so far, so good. I found out that my skin type does not take to facials or exfoliation well, too inflamatory. A washcloth is all I should use to exfoliate and anything with scrubbing particles should be avoided. I found a line of skin care (Eucerin Redness Relief) at Walgreens that is doing good things for my early rosacea symptoms. Here's a link to her website where you can browse for info and she even has forums for the different skin types. You can easily set up a regimen just for your skin spending as little or as much money as you wish with her product suggestions. And you can avoid spending money on stuff that can harm your skin.

YES! Sun care is the most important thing. Once you have found that perfect sunblock for your skin, the rest is easy. I wish I had known this in my twenties and I could have saved my skin from a lot of environmental damage. browntoestoo, have you heard about this product called Meladerm? I SWEAR by this stuff. I used it to lighten some age spots on my hands and even my husband was shocked how much they faded. I know melasma and age spots are different, but I think meladerm is supposed to lighten all kinds of pigmentation. Also, my sister's doctor had given her a product called triluma for her melasma several years ago. I did help her a bit, but I think she was allergic to it so had to stop. Retin-A has been shown to thicken skin and address sun damage. They (users) say it takes months to see the difference, but one day you take a closer look and realize that your skin looks better. It doesn't add plumpness back, though. I'm 48 and am tossing around the idea of starting it. It has studies to back up the claims and the side effects can be minimized by careful administration. For now, I use a hydration-focused regimen on my face, neck, chest and my hands get whatever is left over. That and sunscreen have made a pretty big difference since I started in addressing aging last January. I use hydration/occlusive creams or lotions after showering and put sunscreen on everyday so, I'm not ignoring the other parts. The upper third just gets "special" attention!

I read that article, but there is a lot wrong with it, starting with the assumption that just because a procedure is expensive it must work well. I can well remember playing a dinner at world famous jeweler's on Worth Avenue quite a few years ago, at a time when they were starting to get back a lot of their more significant pieces, 'cause the heirs didn't want jewelry that had to live in the bank. It was also the time when the women who were of the Ali McGraw generation (little LP shift, pulled back short ponytail) were starting to get way up there in age. You don't get an invite to a private dinner for a necklace unless you have some moola to spend, and this necklace traveled with a retinue, including one guy whose whole job it was to take the necklace out of the case and put it on the stand, then put it on the model for the walkaround, then put it away again. I didn't play during walkarounds (they wanted everyone focused on the jewelry), and he came over and sat next to me, in very high glee. "Look at this one, look at this one!" he chortled as another woman who should have known better than to maintain that cruel hairstyle after 70 came under his eye. "Even money can't save you!" And of course he was right. Yeah, the super-rich look groomed, but in reality their skin mostly doesn't look that much better than that of the middle classes. And at that point in my life, my work gave me plenty of opportunity to observe.

I have had the bruising problem all my life and it seems to be worse when I eat a diet with lots of green veggies. Doctors have found no health problem but I think it is because they think I have hit something and not remembered it. Only time they believed was the one time the doctor helped me down from the table and left fingerprints in my arm. Since cerebral hemorrhages seem to be the way most in my father's family die I believe it must be partially genetic. For bleeding when my husband was on coumadin I carried a product called Bleedstop but there are similar products. It is a dark powder that you sprinkle on the cut and it will help the blood clot quicker. Recently I have only been able to find a pack of three large packages rather than the small plastic box with 3-5 small packages in it. Until your wound heals it can appear as a dark stain on your skin but for me it stops the blood with no need for additional bandaids although if it is in a place like my arm or back of the hand that would rub on the bedding I do place a bandaid over it when going to bed. I have started using it for the normal gardening tears than you get every season.

Is 30 considered middle aged? I started with break outs at 28! Lucky me,right? Anyways,I tried every single thing that was over the counter~Proactiv,Murad,neutragena,Clearasil,oxy,EVERYTHING!
All of it was too harsh for my skin and didnt help my face at all.
I finally sucked it up and went to a dermatologist.I have been using Differin gel for a year now,and it is wonderful! I rarely break out,and when I do,they are tiny,easy to manage pimples instead of the big nasty ones I used to get.
A great side effect of differin is that it helps keep you from getting wrinkles as well,and makes any you have seem to go away.It's because it also rebuilds collegen in your skin.
Other retinoids that may help are Retna-A and Tazorac.

NO, Coolmama, NO!!! Thirty is NOT middle aged. I don't exactly know where middle age starts or ends but thirty is not even close.
