About 6 years ago, my DD installed a Thermador double wall oven. It takes ages to heat up (at least 20 minutes). My former oven (Kenmore) and present oven (GE) took/take only 5 minutes. Maybe Thermador has improved but check it out before you make a decision.

AVOID!!!!!! I have had this oven for 3 years and have had issues since it was installed. Thermador has been good about repairs after the warranty expired, but the oven continues to take forever to heat, heats to 50-100 degrees below the temperatures, shuts itself off, and displays continual error codes. Every component has been replaced. There is an innate electrical issue with this model. They can't even install a clock that keeps the time accurately. I am going to the vendor tomorrow and seeing if they will issue me a credit because I can't even fix my family dinner tonight. It is unbaked on the counter again.

Oh dear. And here I thought I'd found an alternative to the Viking VEDO 5302x that other posts gave me qualms about. Any chance that Thermador has fixed the problems it had in the 6 and 3-year old models you guys have?

I read your other post as well and thought i would share a few thoughts.

I like Thermador a lot but I didn't go with the Thermador promotion. They require double or two ovens and I wanted an equivalent of GE advantium. Also you have to pay extra to get a better DW (i wanted culiary rack) - $500 i believe.

Since you seem interested in promotions, I will tell you I compromised to make my budget by combining the bosch 15% rebate (bought BI 36" fridge, DW, and single oven which are all similar to thermador) and GE monogram cooktop, hood, and advantium to get $1000 rebate. I know I know its best to buy the best appliance regardless of brand deals but I would have had to compromise on features on some appliance to get what i wanted in the $$$ i had. And people don't like GE here but the cooktop gets top reviews as does Advantium.

My friend has all Thermador appliances (everything supersized compared to mine!) and she said they were fine except for the double oven which has never worked right. She recommended getting the rangetop over the cooktop she got (but i couldn't becaause i needed the drawer space).

I suspect that double ovens and the fancy heat senstive electronics are a general problem. Single ovens seem to do better based on what I've read. I'm going to avoid self clean if i can!

Thermador and Bosch ovens have a 7 minute preheat if you use the "fast preheat" option. This will turn on all three elements (bake, convection, broil) at the same time. No other oven is designed to do this because the porcelain finish on oven cell would crack. The Thermador/Bosch units have 4 seams, 2 on each side, that run front to back and allows the oven cell to flex with a quick temperature rise so that the porcelain interior will not be damaged.

I don't hear about many service issues with either brand anymore. About 3-4 years ago they had control panel issues, because their supplier was not providing durable control boards. BSH has since changed the supplier and reliability is much improved.

The One-Two-Free promotion is very good. Our store usaully gives you a nice break on other items when sold in conjunction with this package (sink, wine fridge, shipping, etc) with this package. The Thermador dishwasher is made by Bosch. You do have to spend $500 more to get the 3-rack d/w (worth every penny IMO)

The Bosch 15% rebate promotion is also very good.

You may want to contact your local authorized servicer for Thermador, call first thing in the morning and ask to speak to a tech (before they leave for the day) and ask him/her about Thermador ovens, and specifically about newer units.

Mary1307 - you may want to try calling Thermador's dedicated customer support number: 1-800-735-4328. They are trying to solve service issues without involving the dealer now (in other words my Thermador rep now has little power to escalate or resolve service related issues). We'll see in time if this benefits the consumer or not.

FWIW, I called Thermador this morning to ask about repair frequency in general (not for the PODC302 specifically). The representative I spoke with was pretty useless (kept telling me that error codes are there so the service person knows what's wrong) but I did get the number for the local authorized repair person. They told me that they've seen very few problems with the wall ovens for the past few years, and that parts are readily available if something does go wrong ....

We bought the Thermador double oven PODC302 last year. The clock can not keep time. The oven had been working good until yesterday. My wife went to clean the oven using the built in cleaning mode. The top oven cleaned good, but the bottom oven did not work. Came home from work tonight and neither top or bottom oven was working. I will call Thermador tomorrow and see if they will repair it. It has been out of warranty for two months.
