bare minerals and buying alcohol

As an over 50 year old woman I am proud to announce that I was CARDED in the liquor store this week. They say their policy is to card anyone who looks under thirty.

Either the employees are daft or Bare Minerals needs to put me in an infomercial. hahahahaha. yowzers!!

One thing that bare escentuals does not do is brand bash. The makeup does not work for everyone. Hear it. Listen to it. And shut up. we are natural make up made of crushed minerals. Our original foundation is made from 3 ingredients. if your makeup isn't staying use the primer. That's what it was made for..if your getting oil during the day you touch up with the mineral veil..it absorbs oil..maybe some of you should sit down with a beauty ambassador...we go to seminars to become fully educated with our products..I don't use all of our skincare because it doesn't work for me...I HATE seeinh other representatives or women brand bashing...okay the makeup may not work for you but it works for million of women...we are the number one seller on qvc and every four seconds a jar of foundation is being sold! Btw a jar of foundation is supposed to last 8 to ten months..if your going through it faster your not doing the makeup right...and some people are allergic to goat and pony hair that our brushes are made of...my manager still uses her mac brushes from when she worked there..its different for everyone..our product is guaranteed for 30 days and if you react you can return it..I've only seen ONE true reaction and that was because she forgot she was allergic to one of the minerals...there is no talc or dyes so that is false that was stated above...lastly the skin rever upper is not natural...I think I said all I wanted to ha bareminerals has helped me a lot and helps millions of women feel beautiful...if it doesn't work for you I'm sorry you miss out on an awesome product! Maybe try eyeshadows ;)

Oh yes, little critters are everywhere... but it doesn't mean I'd want to rub the ones that are still crawling around on my eyelids... *shudders* I know what carmine is and where it comes from, but the dye should be an extraction created from the crushed shells... and should NOT contain living buggies. If BE is going to continue using carmine in various products, perhaps they should find a better way to refine it... or at least have some better quality control over it. And no matter how you shake it, bugs are NOT minerals. You can't make a big deal about having 100% mineral makeup when you are using non-mineral ingredients in them. And if it's only the the foundations that are 100% minerals, then they should stop implying that ALL their makeup is 100% min. That's just my thought on the matter. Having worked in the cosmetic industry before (but no longer) I ran into many people who had sensitivity/allergic reactions to various ingredients. Other than perfumes, one of the biggest offenders causing skin sensitivites is COLOUR. A LOT of people have reactions to products that are in shades of pink, and to lesser degrees reds and some light purples. Not all shades of pink, mind you, but enough of them to make them wary of that whole section of the colour spectrum. And since they can use other colours of shadows and blushes, they've ruled the irritants down to one or more of the dyes. The problem with most beauty products is that there are so many ingredients listed on the labels that once you know that you react to a certain colour product, you can't usually tell which of the dyes you are sensitive to. Most people with this problem wind up avoiding the whole pink colour family just to be on the safe side. But if you know you react to a certain ingredient, like carmine, you can pass on anything that shows it on the ingredient list. I have not seen how the ingredients are labeled on the BE packaging/website/etc, so I'm just going off of what people have posted here. My issue with the whole thing is: How are the people who KNOW they are allergic to carmine (or have any other issues with it) going to know to avoid this product? Or at least that colour? If there's no ingredient list and the company is already implying that they are 100% mineral based, that further implies that they don't use carmine... which can be a problem for those people who need to avoid carmine for allergy or lifestyle reasons. And personally, I get a little peeved when something is sold to me under false prestenses, implied or otherwise. That's just my spin on it.

My niece said her skin has never been better but she wasn't sure she could ONLY credit bare minerals since she also recently changed her birth control pills. I've been using the bare minerals now for about 1 month and love it more every day. It did take a little time (for me at least) to figure out how to get the best results. It is very easy to use too much since using just a tiny bit seems so counter intuitive. Now I start out with a small amount of foundation powder and buff, buff, buff that onto my whole face. Even though I now have several red spots on my face from post-menapausal acne and age spots, the foundation alone does a pretty good job of covering everything. For those spots that still peek through, I touch up with a cover-up powder they call bisque, and then buff again with the foundation brush. I also use the bisque to highlight under my eyebrows, along the sides of my nose, and between my eyes and cheek bones. A tiny bit of one of the blush powders buffed onto the cheek apples, a bit of eye shadow, and I'm set to go. I first purchased their second lightest color #2, since I've never considered myself extra light, however I went back and bought the #1.2 which is the lightest shade and like that better. You can also blend the two together right on the brush. I did purchase the Mineral Veil that can be used on top of everything else to give a matte finish, but I don't always use it. The eye shadow and blush powders are very flexible and some can be used interchangeably. You can also wet an eyeliner brush and turn any of the colors into eyeliner, or dip any lip gloss into them and add a touch of color to the lips. This stuff really is remarkable - it is so light and easy to wear. I'll never use a liquid foundation again.

Mineral spirits is a (rather weak) solvent for wax. The normal rules of cleaning are TACT: - Time (dwell time) - Agitation (rubbing, in this case) - Chemical (using the right solvent) - Temperature (ambient or solution temperature) If you look at any cleaning you do (washing machine, dish washer, personal shower, car wash, carpet cleaning, etc.) you will see these in action. Generally speaking, when one of these is decreased, you need to increase one or more of the others to get the same cleaning result. So, yes, time will help. Removing wax does take a lot of work, and frequent turning or replacing of towels so you don't just smear it around. But it is also possible you are using the wrong solvent. Have you tried cleaning with detergent and water first. MS is a non-polar solvent and is good for non-polar stains (wax, ink, oils, etc.) Water is a polar solvent and is good for polar stains (dirt, smoke, body oils, foods and beverages.) When I do furniture cleaning, I start with Dawn and water and many times that's all I need. I use a strong alkaline cleaner if there is a lot of soot or tobacco smoke. Silicone oil in Pledge is inert, so I'm not sure anything removes it. Even stripping furniture and rinsing with strong solvents like acetone will leave silicone oil. There was commercial for Bare Minerals, yesterday, during "The View." The faces looked very shiny. Is it a shiny (as opposed to matte), look ?

It's matte. I use the light shade with a dusting of Mineral veil.

dayenu, maybe, they could hirer you as their spokesman, no one can sell as well as someone that 'loves' the product.

I keep thinking of questions...
What do you use under the powder ? If you can't use moisturizer under the powder, what keeps it from making your face a crispy critter ?...it sounds so drying.

Some minerals have a moisturizing effect. The titanium dioxide used as one of the foundation's ingredients is not only a natural sunscreen but it is also used as a lubricant. It's not drying at all, nor does it add oil.

I've actually skipped using moisturizer at all during the day now, to no ill effect. But if you need a moisturizer, use one with a "dry" finish, like Estee Lauder refining lotion.

Woodie, I found a local beauty supply shop selling this now, so I'm going to go there soon to check what they have - I've used up my blush sample and need more of that, and I want to try other eyeshadows too.

I use Neutrogena Pore Refining Cream as my daily moisturizer - it also has SPF 15 and is oil free. I haven't had any trouble using it under the bare minerals foundation. I just have to give it about a minute to dry. Usually, I apply the moisturizer, then dry my short, fine hair and by then the moisturizer has soaked in enough that it doesn't cause problems with the powder application.

Is there a site where you can locate stores that sell Bare Minerals? I really want to try it first to get the right color. You guys have really sold me on it. Can't wait! I live in IA

Joy, I am serious. Thanks for the store locator, there's one not too far from me and, thanks be to God, there's also a Sur La Table at the same mall!

I hope to go Thursday or Friday! Can't wait to go buy liquor and see if I'm carded!

I purchased Bare Escentuals (from Sephora) - I think that's very similar. Spent some $$ to get started-- but I LOVE IT. My work takes me indoors and outdoors in hot, humid NC. I can't say enough about how much I like it!

yes it really is incredible stuff in the heat. lasts all day, I have no idea how it does that, but other makeup melts away and this stuff stays. yet it totally cleans up with water soluble cleanser and a rinse.

and no I dont own their stock.

Ookay, tomorrow's the day! I'm going in the A.M. and I'm really pretty excited (I'm really serious, all kidding aside). I hope I'm not expecting miracles, I know I'm too old to believe in a miracle makeup, but oh what the heck. I'm going to a wedding next month in Sweden and I'd love to look at least half as good as those Swedish beauties!

Ken just went to the wine store today, so I won't be needing to make a visit anytime soon, but I'll be sure to report in when I do, LOL.

Bare Escentuals is the company name. Bare Minerals is the product name. It's confusing. It must be getting more popular because Sephora didn't carry it a couple months ago, and now there are copy-cat mineral makeups out there.

I was in Vegas this April and they had Bare Minerals starter kit at Sephora for $60, a good buy if you consider each piece is about 20 each. It comes with three brushes, two shades, a blush, and the mineral veil. You can try it in the store before you buy to pick the best shade for you. The shades blend right in with your skin and it seems pretty hard to have the wrong shade actually, meaning one shade covers a wide range of complexions it seems.
