Tiled shower window: how do we trim it out?
Comments (4)We too have a window in the shower of our 1890's Victorian. At first I disliked it, and thought it was crazy to have a window in the bath... but now that I've gotten used to it, I LOVE it. Especially in the summer... like an outdoor shower. What we (ok, husband) did was to frame out the window opening and line it up with the wedi board, so that when the tile is installed, it connects directly into the window itself. Maybe you could look for a matching trim piece in your tile family. If you google images of tile quarter round, you might get some ideas of how you could use a thin piece of tile to trim out the gap. Or maybe another term is pencil trim? My husband needed a very thin piece to edge out a corner in another bath, and he trimmed down some of the curved-edge molding, and it worked perfectly. Good luck! The details of renovating a bathroom are enough to drive you crazy! Here is a link that might be useful: Bath Renovation Photos...See MoreHelp: Bad Shower/Tub Tile Job?
Comments (5)I feel qualified to comment on this issue, as we had a similar problem occur in our build with respect to the finish carpentry. To make a long story shorter, the trim carpenter did a horrible job - placing way too many nails in the trimwork, many unnecessary holes in our closet walls, and putting on chair rails upside down, etc. The excuse was that since our trimwork was to be painted, all of the nail holes (sometimes over 30 in a 5' piece of trim) could be puttied and covered. But it was so bad, and our painter wasn't happy about having to do all that nail covering work. So we insisted that the trim be replaced where needed and attached properly to the walls. Painted trim is not an excuse for shoddy workmanship. We thought we would encounter some resistance with our builder, and initially, we did, but once they saw how bad it was, they ordered a new trim package and fixed all of the problems, including recutting all of our poorly cut window ledges. We asked that the original trim carpenters not come back to do this, and we are now very happy and very satisfied with the replacement work. If you don't ask, it won't happen. We are not "picky" people, and we do not wish to engage in unnecessary whining and complaining, but consider the fact that you have paid a lot of money for this and that it is not what you asked for. Your builder is responsible for the work of his subcontractors. I hope that you can get the issue resolved. When subcontractors are working with such expensive materials, they need to be careful and professional in carrying out their work. Jan...See MoreHow can I fix this bad shower pan installation-Help!
Comments (2)Well, you put in a pre-slope, so that's good. I think the water will find the weep holes through the mortar (which is porous), so don't worry about that. As for the curb, if the CBU was screwed at the tops only, then it's going to be fine. It's another story if the screws were applied on the bottom/inside near the floor, since water can get through. But "top/inside" should be fine. If there are screws through the bottom/inside of the liner (near the floor), then unscrew the CBU, patch the bottom holes, and put the CBU back, screwing it only near the tops....See Morehow to fix / finish staircase?
Comments (79)I think worthy just found out why your stairs stick out one tread at the bottom..... that top step shouldn't exist. And if it didn't, your stairs would end flush with the wall - as planned. (IIRC that was another issue with the stairs that you called out as a problem)...See MoreJoseph Corlett, LLC
