Help identifying vintage-looking lounge chair

This red chair doesn't have that much of a history, except that it has been stolen many times over the years. I aquired it from my older sister when she moved to california..it was always my favorite chair growing up. She in turn managed to get it from her ex-boyfriend when she was a teenager, and he in turn had supposedly taken the chair from his sister. I've been all over and I've never seen wood carved in this style or used in this way on other types of furniture. I want to know what style this is so I can perhaps find more like it! Its truely a conversation peice.

So to start with I turned it over, theres no markings...but there is a patch under the cushion that looks to be in kind of...60's or 70's style logo and lettering from an upholstering company in Tennessee...Gains Furniture, I believe. So here are some pictures....and please let me know if it looks familiar!

To me, the tag's script looks more late 50's or early 60's than 70's, but you never know. Though the deep red and dark wood combination reminds me of a Spanish / Mediterranean look that was popular in the early 1970's.

My thoughts too: it's that cut-velvet and dead matador era.

Uh oh. What does "have the color updated" mean? I hope you don't mean you want to get rid of the green and cream. BTW, you might check with aircon in Beaumont (I think) for an estimate for restoration if you haven't already. $1200 should buy you a complete tear down and rebuild for a range like that one, not just a tune-up. If you are handy, you and any decent gas plumber could redo it yourselves, too. They're not complicated and there are guides available from places like the Antique Appliance Club to help you know what to do and where to get supplies. Is this a thrift store where people bring in what they want to sell, and when/if the store sells it, they get a 'cut' of the selling price? If yes, they should have a list of consigners, and may be able to contact the owner of these and ask if they know anything about them.

Well the tag was for a reupholstering company...I have a feeling that it's not the original fabric of the chair. it could have been any color before that, mainly I'm curious about possible styles of the structure and woodwork of the chair.

It's a barrel chair with a tufted back....looks like 1970's to em...of the flocked walls and Mediterranean era.
Not sure what you want to know...I dont' think it has been re done as the wood shows no evidence of that.
It's just a general Mediterranean style of about 35 years ago, they were all over the place in TV rooms and re-done basements in the day....usually nylon velvet and wore like iron! A good sturdy comfortable servicable chair.
