I'm about 35 miles north of Biloxi, Dianne. So far it's just cloudy and a little windy, but the weatherman on WLOX said they're going to have the whole weather crew working on Saturday to "man" today's weather situation - he thinks there may be tornadoes. I got just under an inch of rain Monday, so I'm not bone dry, but I'm in a rain deficit for the year, and we could sure use some today. But like you said, no tornadoes, please! There were numerous tornadoes that went through this area during the hurricane, in addition to the hurricane force winds, so I've really had enough of serious weather as I know you have! I'll keep you posted - you do the same, because it'll be moving east. MissSherry

As Maryanne said sherry is a wine that is fortified with brandy, contains slightly more alcohol than say, chablis, and consequently has a longer shelf life. Sherry comes in 2 varieties, sweet or creame sherry and dry or cocktail sherry. It is a regular wine not a cooking wine...although you might find some laced with salt in the vinegar section of your grocery store....don't buy it it's nasty! You will find sherry whereever you can buy wine. It gives a very distinctive taste to foods. I like it in cream sauces, mushroom soup, some seafood dishes and a certain chicken stew I make. Linda C

Cream sherry and dry sherry are two totally different things. Very distinct and very different flavor flavors. Unless specified, usually recipes asking for sherry are referring to dry sherry. It keeps for years, can be used in white sauces, it's used to marinate meats and chicken particularly in Chinese cooking and is great in seafood soups or seafood casseroles.

That is funny, and I guess I would have thought of dry sherry, being a powder. A funny thing about not knowing about alcohol, years ago Hubs and I were going to dance with another couple. It was a place where you brought your own booze and bought set-ups. Being the others worked, I was supposed to buy the bottle of (I think) bourbon. It turned out to be a pretty "dry" night at the dance because I only bought a 1/2 pint.
