Member's Mark Grill Problems

Now, don't hate me but my local Sam's Club had a 4th of July raffel for the floor model grill ($599). I won it. However it had no manual or boxes to come with it. Saved me the hours of putting it together, but now I don't feel like I know my grill.

Problem is, it also does not work. LP flow or something. I can get a trickle to one burner, lite 2 and it almost goes out, even turn on a 3rd and all three flame out. Tried turning tank on reeeaaaal slow, traded out the regulator at Sam's with a model that had been dropped so the weren't selling that one, and tested the side burner for fuel flow, also real low. None of these fixed the problem.

Sam's is sending me paper work on the grill. Question is, should I continue to trouble shoot, or should I just trade it for a new one in the box, spend the time to put it together, get to know my grill and hope for the best with a second one?

That is one possibility, or maybe you could contact "Grand Hall" and see what they suggest. Do you think that Sam's would trade it for another one in a box? If so, that would be nice. Good luck to you. Here is a link to Grand Hall's web site for you.

yes, Sam's will replace with a new one. Grand Hall, could only refer me to the trouble shooting section of the owners manual, which I do not have.
Think I will put in the time and just get the new one.

I think this kind of thing could happen to anyone using any brand gas grill, so it's a good warning to check all connections carefully before grilling. I confess I only checked the tank to regulator and regulator hose for leaks prior to my first usage of the Virco. The manual did say to also check the gas control valves, but I couldn't figure out how to get to them. I guess I could see them from underneath if I lay on my back, so that's what I'll do next time. I also recall that propane is heavier than air, unlike natural gas, which is lighter than air. So the propane can settle in low places and collect and then explode. Also, as I have recently noticed, a new steel propane container may react with the odorant in the propane charge, and the result is that it can be harder to detect leaks. Lots of people are probably buying new propane tanks with OPD valves rather than retrofit their old ones, so perhaps some extra caution is needed for the first tankful or so. All this makes me wonder if perhaps I may be installing the natural gas conversion kit sooner than I expected...;-) Here is a link that might be useful: Propane safety

As many of you, I have been drooling over this grill for over a year. Your postings have confirmed my thoughts and I have already received financial approval. I will be getting this grill within the next 2 weeks. The question I have, and also saw that someone else asked but have not seen a response, has anyone done a "permanent" or "semi-permanent" installation with an LP heated house? My house is only a year old and is heated by LP. We have a 1000 gallon tank buried in the yard. All of the discussions of plumbing type and size encourage me to offer some detail as to our setup. There is a regulator on the side of the house that drops the pressure to 2 PSI. Inside there is a regulator attached to a manafold that provides individual taps for every appliance (2 furnaces, water heater, stove, dryer, and a dedicated run to the deck for a "future grill") All of this is done with a somewhat flexible 1/2" yellow (I guess vinyl) coated copper. That main regulator is supposed to be able to support all of the appliances and maintain the 14" of pressure. Outside is a stub of 1/2" black pipe to which I need to connect. My plan is a temporary connection (soft hose) upon purchase and a permanent one when I can build this unit in. I agree with the concerns of leaks and will obviously put a shut-off valve before any soft hose. I saw mention of a hose kit from HD for $35. This is listed as an NG hose but at roughly 1/2 PSI I assume it will work for LP? Any thoughts or input would be appreciated. Thanks, Lee

Last year I did a search for built in projects and could never find any info. I've even posted on here acouple of times to see if anyone had done this before. To no avail, I couldn't get to one DIY project for grills. So, I hope that my completed project will be able to help others out there contemplating building there own built in brick grill. Memorial Day BBQ was great. I rotissereed two teriyaki injected chickens and they were great. We also grilled some pork ribs, rib-eyes, kabobs, and pork loins. Everything was superbs. The grill is better that I ever expected. I literally turned on the rotisseree and walked away until they were done. Couple of questions. I cleaned and oiled the covered but still have that browning problem othere have talked about. Whats the best way to clean the cover. Thanks for visiting.

I think I found the message talking about this. Mine didn't come out of the oven shiney as they first were. Of course they were only shiney the first day prior to use. ha ha But they were clean. Afterwards I made my first grilled pizza with homemade dough. Oiled the grates and dough and it didn't stick at all. Here is a link that might be useful: oven clean grids

Go back and get one in the box. After about 2 hours you will know your grill. Instructions are very easy to follow.Remember some tips from the MM forum like take the lid off before you try to drop the grill in to the frame, it is a lot easier to manage. You are very lucky to have won one of the best grills around.

got the new one last night. put it together this morning. (71 min 38 sec from first cracking box open to cleaning up the trash) starting to put the oil on to season the iron. tahnks for the tips. burners flame to full power and i know the insides of my grill.
the last one, i couldn't get the propane tank to hang on the guage, the top hooks were pointing down instead of up. found a few other discrepencies from the old one to this new one.

suggest anyone that buys a pre assembled grill, any grill, go over it step by step in the instruction manual to make sure it is put together 100% correct. mine were all minor flaws, but someone might get one with a hose but on wrong or whatever. found out sam's pays the stock boys 25 dollars to put some together. faster they do it the more it is worth to them. guy i talked to says he has got it down to 35-40 minutes per grill. that is awfully fast to put your trust in that he didn't miss anything.

The propane tanks are now equipped with an opd valve that will trigger if the gas is released too quickly are the tank is opened all the way.Simply opening the tank slowly is only part of the answer.To reset a triggered valve on a tank-disconnect hose from tank and allow to sit for 5-10 minutes.Then attach tank back to grill-barely crack open handle on tank then continue to open very slowly until 1/2 opened.Light burner furthest from tank first to allow gas to fill across entire grill-tank should be turned off after each use.With 3 burners on high and lid closed grill should reach 400 degrees in just ten minutes.If this fails-directly connect the regulator to the grill side bypassing the side burner.If grill works fine hooked up that way then order a"gas connection tube" from GH customer service.This is covered under warranty(free)

It is in the push button. Screw the button coounter clockwise, remove the push button, and replace the battery
