Makeover. ? about foundation and powder

My sister and I just went to MAC for makeovers, it was nice and enjoyable and the beautician seemed knowledgable. The beauticians chose good colors and we both came out looking fine and dandy.

I don't know enough about foundations and powder so I wanted to ask a question about them. My sister wears foundation and some powder and at the makeover she had some put on over a hydrating moisturizer...the colors were good for her, but what I noticed was that as time went on the wrinkle lines on the sides of her eyes became much more pronounced, as if, perhaps, the foundation and powder started to tighten(?) and caused the lines to be more pronounced. Is that what happens always, or perhaps the products were wrong...maybe too much powder?

Hoping to understand, TIA,

Trudi

Possibly too much powder; a little dabbing off might have done the trick..... I like mac products; I've been buying their lipsticks for years.

actually, that's just the nature of powder... it's got enough light-reflecting properties that it highlights shadows...and a wrinkle makes a sharp, noticeable shadow.
THEN, you have to deal with the simple fact that when you make a face: smile, frown, anything- you move the skin of your face around, and accent the creases that the makeup had been laying quietly in...

I've found that the older you are, the less in the way of foundation you should wear... even Tammy Fae looks younger now that she's not putting it on with a shovel!

MAC makes great stuff- but I think full foudnation and powder is for picture taking, not real life.

I can't recommend a powder, but Bobbie Brown has a nice stick foundation that I can recommend. You could call it a "cream" I guess. I think you could try it at a Sephora or a department store (Nordstrom's, Neiman Marcus, etc.). Good luck.

Thank you for the response. Tee hee, no really you look like you are in your thirties to me! Just kidding. But you know, I've been using canola oil on my face for several months now. I have been eagerly waiting for my favorite squirt bottle to get empty so that I can refill with olive oil, funny you should say that. Recently I did get a sample of Oil of Olay Regenerist night cream, so I've been using it. I think the fumes make my eyes burn. Anyway, the sample bottle is now empty, so I will stick with the olive oil. Do you use anything over the top of your Bare Minerals foundation? I'd like to try their Mineral Veil but I think it might have a drying effect.

Thanks everyone for the sweet comments. I would never have done it without the inspiration of all the talented people on this board. Thanks especially to Pattiem, whose powder room is my inspiration. Ms-thrifty, it does feel good to get rid of the "old-ugly". Pam, I know what you mean about pending projects. This is just one of several that IÂve started that I can actually check off my list. I have several more that IÂve started and have yet to finish. I decided to focus on this one project for a week and knock it out. I canÂt take credit for putting up the crown molding, though. DS did that for me. Teachbls, I will try to find the wallpaper info and let you know what it is. I can certainly identify with those of you who also have tiny powder rooms. I used to really hate this room and thought that it was hopeless because it was so small, poorly laid out, and no window. Someone here on the forum, sorry canÂt remember who, made a comment about a powder room being a "small little jewel box of a room." I tried to focus on that thought. Now I think that in a powder room, size really doesnÂt matter. ; ).

Feedback much appreciated. I think maybe a toilet in the corner is just so uncommon that it looks off. They do make toilets specifically for this application though. Once we get the ugly wallpaper off we intend to take another look at placement of the fixtures. In order to have a comfortable distance between the sink and toilet it may be the only way to go. Thanks again. Here's a photo of a toilet made to g o in a corner.

Hi Trudy,

There are some powders that do a better job than others, but powder does settle in any lines one has. It can give a wonderful flawless look to young skin, but in mature skin it is best left for evening and pictures as chinacat said. Don't let a salesperson persuade you that you "need" it, because most of us don't. If you have very oily skin, or perspire a lot it helps is stay a little better.

I wear a mineral foundation over my normal foundation very lightly to hide the red in my cheeks (it works better for me than a powder although that isn't how it is designed), but if I didn't have that issue I'd avoid it. Much more youthful without it.

By the way, Mac products are very good. They have a lot of pigment in them and last. I'm unfamiliar with their foundation though.
